Even better, walking to the central town of an ancient Finnish kihlakunta/pitäjä and hearing the chieftain and shaman leading the chant at the holy grove. (Kihlakunta were made up of multiple, as high as 14 villages. Each kihlakunta would take care of mass religious ceremonies for the villagers of the villages belonging to it. Each kihlakunta also maintained a single hillfort. The central authority were the chieftain and the shaman, the chieftain having been elected by the elders.

You don't need to imagine it, just bring your own kantele with you.
kalevala is a karelian epic not finnish. so what you mention could never happen in a finnish village
