Hey Stakuyi, just want to let you and whoever else know at 6:24; offensive leader is better for defense. I know it sounds weird, but defense stat only decreases the amount of organization damage your units take from enemy soft attack. An attack specialist raises your own soft attack, even when you're defending, meaning you're dealing more org damage to them and more casualties/equipment losses to them.
My headcannon for such small states is that 1)you could have gotten ethiopian volunteers as all that manpower; 2)they could have brough their own guns plus you had border with France the whole time and your ruler was described as rich sultan; 3)tbh, you were fighting Italy in 1936-1940. They're formidable opponent for minor nation, but since HoI4 doesn't allow them to use chemical weapons, it's technically possible to do. This is the still the time when even the small idea can cause drastic effects. Who said that the gunsmith in the desert you joked about haven't been a very talented guy and haven't invented Afar version of Owen gun? The teen in a shed did. Who's to say that you didn't receive Chauchats from France, looked at them, asked what they were once supposed to be and what other nations did to them and proceeded to both return the gun to original configuration(top feed) and apply belgian modernization to it, giving you a pretty okay and very cheap LMG? Who's to say that on the wave of success your guys haven't come up with something akin to japanese "knee" mortars? And that's the time period when even Bob Semple(the one with 37mm gun) and Po-2(which is a crop duster and trainer, mind you) are quite capable of pushing Italy back. You can do Toyota Hilux proud even if it's not yet around;) The issue comes when the war continues on no matter what, Germany gets involved and then you capitulate UK(because you can't ask the control of the states). Sadly the game doesn't peace out Italy after a failure since it has no deadline or casualty limit on this war and can join Axis despite being in it. And aforementioned lack of ability to peacefully ask UK and France to transfer control. So we'll just pretend that you've came to agreement with ethiopian monarchy, ethiopians fought for you, you bought equipment with personal funds and had very forward thinking gunsmith, Italy retreated due to more important war in Europe and UK and France gave you the territory since they couldn't spare forces to defend it and didn't want it to fall to axis hands. ...oh, and Italy didn't use chemical weapons x2

The warlord tree is temperary, once you finish the opposition path you switch to the others, depending on ideology, while chosing the others well, commonist takes over commonists and once more gains their three, and loyalist starts the political takeover but only ads new tree after total terrytorial unification so a little bit difficult I gues. Whilest the Horn of Africa focus is fix as it is.

My first game I was able to do the same thing. Defend capital for years, build irregulars, raise conscription, take allies faction invite in 39. I stayed monarchist and didn’t use any cheese and it still went really well. Such a fun country; pouring one out for the sultan

Also reduces HP dmg taken. Need more defence than their attack or you unit gonna lose fast.
