The Soviet path has this one big exploit. Basically, you try to end the war with Italy as soon as possible using your Soviet stuff and take Eritrea, Somalia and Afar by cranking out a large amount of units. Then, when Italy offers you peace, you can bypass the Soviet mediation focus.

Just as an FYI, whenever the game says "Veteran" or "Elite" in terms of units they aren't talking about the division's template, but the individual units skill level, between Green, Trained, Regular, Skilled/Elite, and Veteran. so in that case the spawned units from the "In the name of the people" Focus gave you units of the skill level "Skilled/Elite" and "Veteran" respectively, making them better than other units of the same template

It makes sense that allying yourself to a more powerful nation will grant you great short term benefits, but come with strings attached later down the line.

I learned early on to grab the italo ethiopian war focuses to grab that massive reform to traditional warfare.
Also, gettin the soviet support doesnt invalidate independence. So you can get red army engineers and such before leaving them.
Ethiopia is slightly difficult now, because Sultanat now spawns some Italy dudes in country after annex
29:56 it’s probably because either Italy didn’t control the vp in the state, or they didn’t fully control the state. So it just bugged out and peaced you out with them.

I went down the Soviet side and they didn't help or mediate at all. The war ended when the Italian Union rose up in civil war. Was able to kick Italy out of East Africa.
