    **UPDATE**
    Hello all, in a few subsequent videos after this install I had some clutch issues where I thought maybe my bolts had backed off. After a bit of work and my clutch locking up on me and forcing me to tow her home I discovered that the clutch hub nut had backed off. This had nothing to do with the installation process. My thoughts are that the pressure plate is/was too light to be used on the slipper clutch (I think she spun and over time backed out) I've gone back to the stock pressure plate and had no issues since. So after a year or so of lived experience with this kit. I would recommend the clear clutch cover for the bling but would NOT recommend the pressure plate swap. Stay ignorant my friends!

      This is good info to know. 👍👍 Do you think you could have the stock pressure plate powder coated to the color of your liking? Do you think the aftermarket pressure plate has a different thickness which could possibly require different springs or something thing? Just trying to think why the aftermarket one gave you so much issue?

    • @ignorantcustomgarage5171

      @@itsmeericb my guess is it was the weight. Sadly I didn't have a scale but the stock pressure plate was I'd say triple the weight. It was that drastically different. Powder coating I know adds weight but the pressure plate is so small I can't see it adding enough weight to match the stock plate. Maybe a kit that uses steel vs aluminum.

      @itsmeericb 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ignorantcustomgarage5171 I wonder if you add washers to match the weight of the stock plate?

    • @ignorantcustomgarage5171
      @ignorantcustomgarage5171  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@itsmeericb I like your thought process but i wouldn't do washers, powder coat the stock pressure plate would be my only option personally. Probably cheaper then buying the aftermarket one.

    Hey buddy. I put my clutch cover on yesterday. I literally followed this video to the tee and it worked out perfectly. The only thing I did differently was place my bike on the hill of my driveway to get a good angle so the oil would not leak out and "eureka" not a drop of oil spilled out! I love this mod. It sets the bike off nicely! Thanks for the video and keep em comin.

      That's awesome! It's just getting into spring here so I haven't done any vids over the winter months. But next up for the RC8 is headlight bulb swaps, DRZ 400 SM, exhaust and jetting, followed by headlight conversion and some more work to the BMW 1000RR

    That's a beautiful thing. Thanks for the vid. (I thought the pressure plate bolts had to have loctite)

    • @ignorantcustomgarage5171
      @ignorantcustomgarage5171  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Loctite not required, BUT, and here's the big BUT (#sirmixalot) I 100% believe that the pressure plate is too light for the clutch to function properly. The clutch hub nut ended up backing off which is what caused my clutch issues in later videos. Clear clutch cover would still recommend but the pressure plate I would not

    Does the oil pool and show behind the clear cover? It did on my 990 and I thought it was awesome to see. I havent noticed it in any 1190/1290 videos or pics though.

      What it does on the startup is what it looks like, on the side stand the oil is just at the bottom 5% visible

    So cool! I put one on order as soon as I put a deposit on a local RC8R!
    Have you had any issues with it leaking? I have seen on some KTM forums where RC8R and SDR owners had leaking covers where the plexiglass joins the outside ring. It can be fixed with some oil-resistant gasket sealant apparently. Just wondering if you had any issues. I am tempted to try to seal it up better prior to installing.
    Thanks for the vid!

    • @ignorantcustomgarage5171

      I've had zero issues with leaking. I bought a new gasket prior to installing and made sure the surface was completely clean of old gasket ( like you should with any gasket installation on any motor) also dip your finger and lightly oil the gasket sorta like you would with the O ring on a standard oil filter. Lastly use the proper torque specs and bolt patterns.
      Again I would suggest not using the replacement pressure plate as I did have some issues with it, will save you a couple bucks and a lot of time later should the hub nut back off.

      @@ignorantcustomgarage5171 Thanks for the quick reply! That's great to hear. BTW - the leaking I'd read about in a few forum posts was on the cover itself where the plexiglass joins the clutch cover. Apparently the o-ring allows some oil through for some owners. I thought about resealing it before installation, but when my cover arrives I'll just install it and keep an eye on it. Thanks for mentioning the pressure plate issue too!

      Don't quote me on this, but, I believe the clear clutch cover is good for the super duke and RC8 however I don't think the pressure plate is good for the RC8. Given my expirence I wouldn't recommend changing the pressure plate
