Really wish VF wasn't only on Playstation. I knew VF and Tekken were very different beasts, but they're clearly even more different than I thought. Makes me wonder if you swapped a random character from either game to the other without changing them in any way, would they fare poorly or wreck the game. Probably depends a lot on which character was placed in either game.
It's simple. If VF 1,2,3 was released on Playstation back in the day, it would still be extremely popular, probably just as much as Tekken or more. I liked Tekken 3, the other games I didn't play a whole lot, but your video made the dinstinction between the two game's flow clear for the first time ever. Now I get why they feel so different in a way, and why I favour VF. I may not be able to articulate it, but the read gameplay, the close range...everything blends together to "click" more for me, than what is being asked of me when playing Tekken.
One of my Favorite movements in VF is when an Old VF2 Player Boom Boom Maru. Came up with the Crouch backdash cancel which no one had b4, to beat another player using Lau. Who at the time was considered a OP top tier. The best part, he won using this method with Wolf Hawkfield.
Watching this now has made me realise how tekken 8 is a lot more like virtua fighter. Less turtling, homing/counter hit throws, aggression, offence is new defence etc
Alot if good information, but I want to expand on whiff punishing and spacing in VF: Yes, it is required to be comfortable at close range, but you can absolutely play a ranged game. All movement options can be cancelled into one another continuously. The highest levels of play make very frequent use of their superior movement speed (successive dash/crouch-dash cancelling to play pseudo-footsies. That's how you can start to get consistent perfect rounds.
As an Anime player I don't really find 3D games to be all that engaging, due to their grounded martial arts focus, but in a weird way, Virtua Fighter is So grounded that it loops back around to being interesting lol. I've been meaning to boot up 4 on fightcade and start learning it ever since it got added on there, I just haven't gotten around to it yet.
What kind of 2d games do you like? I've never been sucked in by any of the 2 games that I've tried. Tekken and Soul Calibur were the only thing that got me to come back.
Interesting video. I always noticed that about the latest VF. Once you got in, it seemed like a slugfest and you could just get huge combos for seemingly small hits. Of course, there is more going on there, but that's what it looks like. He mentioned boxing in phonebooths and I just had to laugh. Very reminiscent of Frye vs Takeyama.
The Netcode is really really good. it's the best delay based netcode on the planet. The only issue is if nonody play the game in Europe , you ll have match making with Chinese and Japanese and Korean players.. :/ (Still playable but not optimized )But If you're from NA you can have very good connection No miracles with super long distances even with rollback.
I will definitely second that going from Tekken to VF, trying to grasp how strong throws are (both using them and using abare/ducking/preemptive breaking to get around them), as well as how weak backdash is, is very, very tough!
Love this video, but I'd like to make one slight critique which is that you probably shouldn't have used the Tekken skins to show VF gameplay, at times it was confusing on the eyes for a moments glance. But otherwise great stuff.
I do hope in VF 6 they do add some ranged movement options. Like in VF3 and VF4. But things like mixing your evades into movement makes VF interesting at mid range. I would love to see oki in VF because for me it feels quite different than Tekken
What do you mean by ranged moves ? VF has plenty of them. More than tekken. If you're the kind of player who like to fight long range you totally can do it. Some charatcters are long range specialists and super annoying Also what do you mean by "I whish VF6 will have oki" VF has the most complexe oki situations than any fighting games.. :/
Ok the Tekken skins are super cool and more convincing than I would have anticipated but this required 110% of my focus to look at and I still think I confused a few scenes. Might have been nice to label the VF characters by name on screen.
@@chudeexiste7329 i don't remember, i do know that VF5 is in both Yakuza 6 and Yakuza 7, but im not sure if you can actually play VF from the main menu from the get go or not. Regardless, you should be playing Yakuza anyways, specially Yakuza 7. Even if you "have" to play it to unlock VF5, it is a win-win situation 🤓
It's rare in the neutral, but footsies are viable during oki. Limited but it's there. Space control is also there but it takes a different form. Less about distance and more about direction right/left (away/towards screen). The stages are small and ring outs are always present so as a defender, being able to reposition in the 3rd axis is important. Conversely, it's also important to know how to keep your opponents back towards the ring edge. Instead of worrying about poke distance, the principal concern is the directionality of the attack/defense.
That would be pointless since it wouldn't truly be Tekken x VF, it would simply be Tekken with VF characters in it. The reason people like VF is not just the characters, it's the entire fighting system.
Lost me half way through the video. Just a few words on how things are different and then immediately into how to set up scary scenarios. I wish the tutorial went slower and made sure the audience understands ideas before going deeper

Goh Hinogami for Tekken 8!
VF6 needs a Tekken representative too!
Rewatched this video atleast 4 times already. Brilliant work. Please bring the next in the series. Cannot wait enough.
I see VF I hit like 👀
Please sega release this on steam
Yeah, might have to download this on my ps5 after work
