If anyone watched harada's video about this, he said its the same thing we did with tekken revolution to get enough money to make a new game and build budget for a sequel
That’s a given though. Sega been in a hole for awhile. Anytime a company does a remaster it’s for a new game in the series. Developers have been doing that for awhile now lol
@@TungstenViper that would be really cool if it were an anime game…but it’s not an anime game so it just sounds outdated. If Tekken 7 had all of the same sound effects from Tekken 3, it wouldn’t make it better just because people know what it’s from.
The biggest crime is Sega keeping this series dormant for so long. It feels outdated because it’s literally from 2006. They never gave it a chance to develop beyond that. Look at the way Tekken has evolved throughout the years with every new game. New characters, updated voices, updated sound effects, new moves, and new gameplay features. If VF was given the chance to evolve like that, I think it would be more appealing nowadays. But Sega gave up on it after VF5.
but heres the thing, if he doesn't like the game just don't play it, why trash the game and its players when your clearly not a Fan. mms is an A hole, he's literally fighting at 3kyu trashing the game smh
@@gothim9234 I think everyone has a right to state their opinions and criticize stuff, and that includes you as well I think tmm meant well with the criticism.
@@ricsebastianejoson4208 If he means well, then he should be more understanding to SEGA's circumstances when they remade this 15 year old game with a low budget during the pandemic. Obviously the game will look outdated. But instead of offering constructive criticism, he shts on the game relentlessly, effectively encouraging people not to give VF a chance. Which means we're less likely to get an updated VF now.
TMM - WHATS UP GUYS MAINMANSWE HERE HOPING YOU ARE DOING AWESOME AS ALWAYS TH-cam SUBTITLES - WHAT S UP GUYS MY MOM S SWEEPING HERE HWORANG IS DOING AWESOME AS ALWAYS
To be fair, this release was basically a few dudes at Sega who worked on Yakuza (and putting VF5 into that game) deciding to remaster it a bit. So it being low budge is understandable. You could argue that Sega should have pushed harder, but it's hard to say without knowing what they'll do in the future. If they don't do VF6 because "this wasn't popular enough" or make VF6 just VF4.3, than yeah, that's a huge problem. And yeah, Tekken does have some of the same issues. They really need to redo the animations on the legacy characters and fix the voices. But I guess the argument there is that they didn't expect Tekken 7 to actually succeed, lol.
100% Agree. The combat system overall in Tekken is close to perfect for a 3d fighter. if they could give unique mocap for each character, the game would bang. Also id like Tekken to pull the camera a bit farther (like in VF) so we don't have the characters behind the huds or screen borders during matches.
@@whbig1848 You really want to compare movement between VF5 and T7? LOL. VF5 came out in 2006 and still redefines how movement in a 3D fighter should be utilized. We're here in Tekken 7 and Tekken still has the tap up and down input just to have a character walk left and right only, ONLY left and right. In VF5 you can walk in EVERY direction of EVERY angle without having to tap anything. So what the hell are you talking about?
I like VF a lot but it really is a hard sell to anybody not already invested. As far as sound effects go, I would like them redone but keep the old ones as a toggle since they do have nostalgic value (like the VF1 Skins and the goofy voice acting). VF6 can't just touch up a decades old game. It needs to update itself to compete.
It needs to take itself more seriously, I agree with you on the sound effect thing. Its nostalgic asf coming from a person whose played since Part 2 but Sega needs to get with the times
holy shit, yes. i tried to get my friend to play Ultimate VF4 with me on PS2 and they were so bored. they were also appalled at how bland the characters were.
This is kinda true...we were playing Tekken 7 at a friend's apt and a girl stopped by who doesn't really care about video games and she thought Jin Kazama's design was pure Chad...
The sound effect they use is almost the same as in 80's anime when the hero destroyes a brickwall or stone. (And yes even later that sound was used like in most gundam anime) Peace
Die hard Vf player here🙋♂️.. First off would like to dispel the notion that the entire Vf community are fine with the progression of the series.. This has been a on going debate within the community.. A large portion of us understands the presentation is its biggest downfall and is a huge reasons why casuals, or new players dont stick with it, While other members of the Vf community blame it on its learning curve.. I dont defend sega at all, nor do I Understand their logic but what I will say is this.. I dont blame them for keeping this version of the game the same (outside of remodels and graphics) If its to gage the interest.. If Vf 6 comes out with the same issues within the presentation then i'd truly have a problem.. What Some folks fail to realize is many die hard Vf players thought the series was dead.. So to get another game/remake is great! Casuals and some tweeners look at it from a completely different perspective (change this, change that, new characters, new this, new that).. Im not investing money financially to create a game if the audience isnt willing to pick it up.. Us die hard fans are hooked on the Gameplay alone... But If this series is to grow they gotta spice up the presentation.. Allow the yakuza team to Build up the presentation and see where it goes.
@@jamessummers5936 Well Vf 5, and vf 5 final showdown wr different.. Vf 5 final showdown and Vf ultimate showdown wr the same gameplay wise, but new character models, online set up, along with some stage differences, and graphics... Most vf'rs play the game for the gameplay its deph, and it might sound a little corny but the brotherhood many of us have.. For some the change in both versions isnt enough but in my eyes it seems like sega and sony might have wanted to keep it afloat bringing it to ps4, and generate a little buzz to determing if they want to invest in it further. I cant be mad at that.. Why not? If you invest millions into a Vf6(not making ultimate showdown) I think this takes the game out of many players hands that have access to it now.. This Would have spelled doom..(Again) imo if vf 6 would be released off the strength of the core fan base.. Why not get it in the hands of new players, with a newer coat of paint for free? What some ppl are requesting(New characters, move sets ect) might aswell be Vf 6.. To answer your questions Virtua fighter fans respectfully lol.. Im positive ALL Vf fans Would want a vf 6 but many wasnt gonna stop playing Final showdown if thats all they have.. When a game is good the age isnt always the deciding factor on rather or not we continue to play it or not..
This really isn't about the devs. They got a certain budget and spent it on network infrastructure. The devs WANT to make a better game. The higher ups just stagnate their legacy franchises and bury them.

If they wanted to go for nostalgia with the sounds, they could have two versions of the sound effects. One updated and the other for nostalgia. I totally agree that they should make CG endings and cutscenes.
The worst part is how VF has the absolute minimal effort out into them and SEGA expects them to make money off of the name alone. Nobody gives a damn about VF anymore because even SEGA doesn’t give a damn to put the actual effort into the games. It’s a shame because for the gameplay is great.
Dude, Its freeware remaster of ancient FG that looked absolutely horrible even on release and the whole franchise died right after that. This game needs all exposure it can get - positive - negative - whatever as long as people at least care a little. They gotta get going some solid budget so they can release a real game.
All of this without even getting into the games online, which is bad even by the standards of delay based games. And to put it out just before Strive? Yikes

Since this was my first interaction with the VF series, I didn't have any idea what to expect. Overall its a pretty good game but I can't believe how bland the characters are. The only bit of characterization I get as a newcomer are pre- and post-match voicelines and movesets. If I didn't read the original virtua fighter 5 instruction manual, I wouldnt even know why they are fighting in the first place. If sega decides to make a new entry, they better step their game up, or they will fall flat on their face.
The characters have the depth of early 90's fg's. The company just never developed them, like ALL other fg's did over the 90's decade. Things in VF have been done all these years with an "early 90's arcade" mentality.
You know that vf came out before tekken and 95% of the characters stayed the same, right? Akira is ryu/kazuya, jacky is like ken and uses jeet kune do like law (law is just a bruce lee copy so much original right?), pai is the chinese martial arts asian girl, wolf is the wrestler dude and i got bored. Besides goh, brad, Eileen, el blaze and jean they are all classic. You cant say they are bland or boring cuz they are realistic and use real martial arts, cant be kangaroos or bears They are very distinct, different and cool. Leo even copied lion (even the same name ffs). I think i actually prefer the virtua fighter roster. EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER looks interesting and fun. Contrary to tekken where 80% of the roster i wouldnt pick in a million years, some are just so disgisting that i dont even wanna play against them, like nina or alisa. Meanwhile on vf i tried all of the characters and had fun. I dont even touch female chatacters in tekken but in vf they are cool, especially vanessa. And they arent bullshit because their smaller hitbox makes them lighter, easier to juggle in a combo, and they do less damage while being a bit quicker. Their gimmicky shit has downsides contrary to xioayu or alisa for example. Eileen is like xioayu but she is suuuper light and does the least damage. Its all the little details that make this game so goddamn cool as fuck. How characters block attacks, how they have a FUCKTON of different throw animations for each direction, how they have different animations for wall throws, how the weight system affect the game, how each counter has its own crushing animation... that shit was in a 2005 game ffs. It just got an upgrade to the textures in a new game engine but everything is the same and its STILL amazing. If they did that to tekken 5 it would be a complete failure and embarrassment. Hell, the original vf5 on ps3/xbox360 looks better than tekken 7. Literally. Just upscale the textures to 1080p and that 2005 game looks better than a 2016 game.

And the movement AF never change. You can compare tekken 1,2 and 3 . They've changed. I don't get it. Why the movement still the same. Tekken have been developing the game trial and error. From tekken 1 and 2 the semi 3d fighter then tekken 3 they finally has side steps and side rolls, tekken 4 proper side walk and wall introduce. Tekken tag generic low parry introduce, tekken 5 is tekken 3 0.2 the better ver for everyone. Tekken 6 bounce introduce for combo launcher, tekken tag 2 then tekken 7 new launcher combo system, slow motion effect, better visual and sound, rage drive and rage art system. Probably the nicest community of players I ever had the pleasure of interacting with. Can’t say the same for the Tekken community in my case. Tekken will never be the series that pushed the standard of 3D polygon gaming, but they’ve always had the idea of what sells. Heck, a good chunk of the dev team for VF1 worked on the first Tekken and there’s even a proto Kazuya in the VF1 code. Hopefully the VF6 rumors are true.

Your analogy of the ass face with good personality is so accurate. The first thing I said when I played the game I literally said "this game is so ass" but I gave it a shot in practise. On a technical level it ain't bad
I think TMM loves the idea of VF. He likes the word "complicated". As for its presentation Graphics haven't been a strong suit for the series for awhile probably since when VF5 vanilla came out( mid 2000). Neither story. Frankly the slowdowns, supers and extra explosions and would be out of place in VF. And yes old kung-fu movie inspired sound effects have been a staple. While this is will sound like a no true Scotsmen issue, people who are familiar with the series know this. And the game has actually been dumbed down over the years with the inclusion of easy throw tech. But the appeal of the game has always been is the gameplay and its focus on yomi. Having played Final Showdown, the last update of the game, extensively, getting familiar with Vf and its mechanics and extensive movelist takes time. Ultimately you get what you put in, and TMM didnt put much in and it shows. In terms of popularity Seiji Aoki, the remaster director, praised the success of the release saying that it exceed expectations and that there would be future development. Lil Majin and EmeryReigns, a doa player, have enjoyed and streamed the game. So its been appealing to players outside Vf's hardcore base. Thats said the netcode isnt great and a PC release would definitely help.
I’m not sure I agree with you. I love VF5 in particular and I was more than happy to see it remastered. So understand that I’m not trying to dump on the game. TMM clearly does appreciate the depth of the game. That said, he raises a good point. The point he’s making isn’t about those who already appreciate the niche genre of fighting games, he’s talking about how to expand sales to make a series resurgence viable you have to attract the more one-off buyers. There are tons of people who buy MK and Tekken not because they want to get good but because the games look cool and they want to check it out. It is VERY possible for Sega to keep the identity of VF while updating the game. If anything, it would be easier. Think about how much better the game would be with more realistic Kung fu movements. As for sound, a high quality recreation of those old school sound effects is all they would need to do. It just needs to feel like an intentional choice as opposed reused assets.
@@carlosaugusto9821 I followed both series with a lot of interest from the beginning. The first 2 Tekken's were more visually impressive than VF1 and 2 and were available on the very successful Playstation. VF1 and 2 were stuck on the Saturn which failed. VF3 blew Tekken 3 out of the water graphically but was stuck on arcade for 2/3 years and then only came out as a rush job port for Dreamcast which was also a failed console. VF4 was the most successful both in Japan and the west. The series started to fall away with VF5 in both territories for different reasons.
@@atuls55 are you crazy Vf2 looks good even to this day, cant really say the same about the first 2 Tekkens. Probably Tekken 3 but that still does not look as good as Vf2
The presentation of vf4 was amazing and probably has the best tutorial mode ever. Quest mode was great as well. Vanilla vf5 was still pretty good, but vf5fs is when they dropped the ball. To be fair, they couldnt put much in terms of bonuses and presentation for vf5fs because of the download size limitations of xbox live back in the day
Presentation only matters a lot in the West. VF has always been absolutely massive in Asia, even though it looked "boring" compared to Tekken. I agree that it's time for an update though.
Do you mean by update powermoves, comebacks and flashy shit for kids? If so than no thanks that's one of the reason why I switched from tekken to vf, because I prefer deep fighting game with real martial arts, that is not too realistic to the boring extent or not 2d garbage fireballs, lasers and alisas with larses and unbalanced broken characters
@@BazedSlavaryan I completely agree with you. The presentation needs a little cleaning up, but should stay away from all the flash that is Tekken or Soul Cal. I really think that invulnerability frames in a game where 95% of the hurt boxes are NOT invulnerability frames is one of the hidden downsides of Virtua Fighter and DoA as successful 3D fighters. There is a huge chunk of the game that feels missing; the wake up game is very rigid because of this. Wake up mid and low attacks are invulnerable on start up, and in the default/most popular knockdown state they are both circular (full tracking) so you can't sidestep/evade them. It seems like reversal counters don't work on wake up attacks either. If someone is in your face, there is little to no risk to continuously do a wake up mid or low attack. This leaves the person standing to just block. Your only other options are to jump over the person waking up (which doesn't always work all the time), back all the way up (which effectively ends any wake up pressure), do a move that will crush the wake up attack (mostly jumping moves that will crush wake up lows), or trade. The last option, to trade, is not something a beginner or even intermediate player is going to think of, and is difficult to time. In order for the trade to work in your favor, it needs to trade with the wake up attack while both are in active frames and has to be more damaging than the wake up attack. I find this to be completely unintuitive. The visuals of the game tell me that if I'm playing with a character who has reversal counters (say, Akira), and I time it correctly I should be able to reversal their wake up. Also, in every other instance of the game, if I hit someone on the start up of their attack, my attack not only hits them but it hits them as a counter attack. This not only works for attacks, but works for when someone gets hit while jump, while crouching, while dashing, and if I attack someone while they are blocking the game will register a block animation. For no reason, all of these rules get thrown out of the window for wake up attacks. Invincibility frames also kick in when someone is completely grounded. If a move has an animation that looks like it would attack someone on the floor, but goes completely through them, then it takes away from the "feel" or intuition of the match. If I have a mid that also swipes the ground, half the time I use this move I am not thinking of "is the opponent ducking or not". I'm more so thinking "this move will hit my opponent". And that should apply to whether my opponent is standing, ducking, dashing, jumping, in the start up frames of an attack, in the recovery frames of an attack (whiff/whiff punishing), and when the opponent in grounded. But active frames of an attack don't work on grounded opponents aside from the three or so special attacks that only hit grounded opponents (8P or 8K or 3P or 3K or whatever it is for your specific character). Again, this likely (almost subconsciously) throws people off. I think 3D fighting games around this time probably suffered from similar issues, but by Tekken 6 I feel like this wasn't an issue anymore. Same with Soul Calibur IV. As a Tekken player, VF5:US has become slightly more enjoyable now that I know the ins and outs of this wake up mechanic/rule base, but I have been playing Tekken since Tekken 1 and understand frame data. A lot of people who play fighting games do not (and should not, to be honest) understand frame data/invincibility/in-depth mechanics, and just rely on intuition and visuals/audio to excel in the game. I really, really think that this is something that makes the game confusing, frustrating and dry. I think VF5 has a lot of potential, and I also agree with the sound effects sounding dated. Between this and invulnerability scattered throughout the match whenever someone gets knocked down, it hinders the overall experience of playing. EDIT: I also agree that the animations are very dated and the game would benefit from some updates.
Very good analysis on the wake up mechanic/rule base of VF5us. In VF5us, the pleasure comes from the way you trick the grounded opponent on his wake up but i kinda agree when you say that it feel less instinctive as Tekken tho. Sometimes you better to think twice before putting an opponent on the ground because more even than Tekken it can disadvantage you in many situations (near the wall, panic knocking down for example) It's such a pleasure to well time and brutally crush an rising opponent kick tho ! But i agree it's damn fucking hard and it's one of the most difficult thing to be able to do consistanly in this game. To do so, you have to crush a rising attack with a move that does at least 21 damages (and it has to be high/mid for a high rising attack or a mid /low for low rising attack, ex are also working i think). In VF most of those moves are launchers so they are very slow in general ^^ (still some exceptions like 3 k+g from Pai). I understand how you find uninstinctive to not hit an grounded opponent with what seems to be a ground attacks. However as some of those moves allow to move around and dance around the grounded opponent, that's also something good to be exploit and just emphas the design of the game because may be is the way VF want the game to be ? Personaly i wish that design would change slighty in the sequel to feel more "instinctive" like you said, i sure there is a satisfying middle road to find in term of design. May be AM2 should put one more button in VF6 to pack some moves which would have special uses for hitting grounded opponents. So they could remove all those cluncky ground universal attacks : 2p, 8p. because that's true, "astronaute 1993 tmms" attacks" aren't very elegant at all in 2021..). The fourth button already exist in VF3 so it's not a blasphem to think about it ^^. About the counter on rising kick, i think only Aoi can counter some of those attacks but may there some other characters that can do so (i'm too lazzy to check ^^). Vive Virtua fighter, vive Tekken !
I love your videos MainMan, but I don’t understand the whole sound effects problem. I don’t mind them at all, if anything I praise them for being different than Tekken.

The funny thing about fighting game fans, is we harass and talk trash about fans of other series... But here's the thing. I don't know any true fighting game fan that only owns and plays one fighting game. What I mean is they literally only own and play that one fighting game. So I don't know why people have to trash a game to feel better about another game and this has nothing to do with VF. I personally agree that it's outdated. That being said if you don't dabble in other fighting games you're not a real fighting game fan. It's okay to have a preference but if you don't even try and play other ones then you don't love the genre. So while we're sitting here trashing each other, and feeling like oh if you don't play this fighter there's something wrong with you.... You're missing out on a s*** ton of good fighting games. People got to grow up man.
Exactly. I love fighting games I at least give them all a shot and then judge them after based on feel and look. And people being elitist about their games being the only one worthy of playing doesn't make you a fighting game fan it makes you an *insert game* fan.. even if someone says a game is shit . Play it for yourself and judge for yourself. I also know they say the netcode In vf is bad but I haven't had issues and I've been against people in other countries and think I've only lagged a handful of matches out of 600 matches I've played so far.. yeah the game looks a bit boring character wise but it's a refresher people should at least try while waiting for other games to get updated considering this game is free. Hell I'm not a huge fan of the newer mk games but that doesn't mean they're trash or bad. They're just not for me, but I at least played them to judge their merits for myself and saw what I like and don't like. I get he's frustrated they just resigned an old game and it's lazy , but considering it's a free game I can't hate on it. Now if they charged 60$ for it then I'd understand
I don't like redesigned characters though and I really like the sound effects I think it is what makes virtua fighter virtua fighter, honestly one thing I can agree is that the sound effects do sound old what they should have done is just redo them but make them sound newer and fresher while still keeping the actual sounds themselves.
Sega gave no fucks. They made this remaster solely to celebrate VF anniversary. That's why the game is only on PS4 and ps+. Also they said they are amazed by how many users are playing the game. I hope they're seriously taking feedback for a possible new entry or even some updates.
to be fair, the lighting looks better and the character models are better. it overall looks better. what i feel like actually is the problem is that sega probably gave it no time to develop and rushed the release only on the ps4, only changing up the visual engine. it was released as a so-called "test" by sega to see the interest in vf which is stupid as fuck. the sound design could be fixed by quickly redoing hit noises and finding the old uncompressed voice clips, which probably wouldn't take long.

Sega was so innovative with Virtua Fighter and so many other games. Yet they keep paying for the lowest quality, and keep recycling assets from their oldest games. The release of Streets of Rage 4 suffers from this practice by Sega. Quality games, yet you can see where they decided "if it ain't broke, paste it in and call it nostalgia."
He's not wrong. Nostalgia is cool and all but there are different ways to please old fans instead of just not updating any visuals or sounds. Who wouldn't want better visuals and sound? I don't get it. It just looks completely outdated, this doesn't even have anything to do with opinions. How cool would it be if it looked modern and played the same?
Funnily enough the Yakuza Dragon Engine update VF5 got really improved it the look but it STILL looks really old. PSO2 New Genesis just came out and it looks really pretty but also has a lot of weirdly old-looking visual design. This seems to just be a thing with Sega games.
@@jakejutras5420 people like you are an old, incredibly small fan base of ultra dedicated players. If Sega wants this game to get big, there's going to have to be some sort of effort made to appeal to a wider audience.

I love the sound effects it makes it its own unique sound to the game that makes it stand out from the other fighting games the sound effects are more iconic to me from a man who has played it since it's for came out in arcades
With sound effects "nostalgia" argument: just make an option to choose from new or old sound effects, just like Halo MCC did with new and old graphics switch
Honestl,y I might be on the minority here, but I actually love Virtua Fighter presentation It's so outdated and old school that it turns completely on its head and it becomes really charming to me. And that's not even talking about the animations which as far as I'm concerned is the best game that represents a martial artist on their cinematic peak. Tekken, DoA and all other 2D fighting games feel like playing an anime which is fine, but with VF you feel like you're actually playing with a martial art movie star, which is enhanced by those sound effects, which is honestly a fantasy I love. That being said I don't have in me to grind fighting games so it's whatever.
I rarely agree with this guy, but...I completely agree on all levels here. High level VF is pretty dope to watch, but outside of that the aesthetics are bland af and the characters are super generic, the animations are floaty and there's just not enough flair or impact when pulling off moves or landing attacks. I said this, a few years ago under a VF video, and got flamed lol, but it is what it is. Picture Devil May Cry...but minus the style and overall aesthetics, the moves and combos wouldn't resonate the same.
I definitely agree with you about the sound design. Definitely needs an upgrade. I personally don't like it, but after a few matches; it stops distracting me. Animation is still really good, though. Yeah, there are some odd bits here and there; but it still holds up really well. Most of the animations are from Virtua Fighter 5 which released in 2006. Tekken isn't perfect in terms of animation, either. Tekken 7 still has the same funky walk cycle from the very first entry. You could say it doesn't matter in terms of gameplay, but it's still there. Most of the "older-gen" animations have been redone/removed, but there are still some there. Heihachi's f, f + 3 comes to mind immediately. Same animation as in the first game. Kazuya got an updated animation for that back in Tekken 5. Which is even more baffling.
Virtua Fighter gives ne mixed feelings. I like that the combat tries to berealistic, but animations are lacking. Visuals are great, but sound effects are TERRIBLE. It demands execution for very simple moves and others are much simpler to do and deal more damage. A strange game to review.
>the animations are lacking This a joke, right? Virtua Fighter 5 has superior animations than 95% of fighting games out there. The only game with animations that are on-par is Street Fighter V.
@@NihilisticIdealist No joke at all. They jump in slow motion, they fall after a hit like they were in moon's gravity, and moves are clearly inspired by actual martial arts, which is great, but they look robotic and laugh impact. Transitions are cringy to watch. The fighting game with the best animations, regardless of its quality in other areas and the boobs meme, is BY FAR Dead Or Alive.
@@LINKchris87 Not true. You do have a point with the jumping, but the fight animations in VF are obviously better. To be fair, the controls in VF are clunkier than TK, but combat animation is not the problem. TK's animations are more stiff. I cant fathom how people think otherwise.
What I don't understand is why they don't just handle these nostalgia options like they already do with other nostalgia options. Put in modern sound effects, let people switch to the old one in the settings, just like the VF1 UI is available. It's so easy
MainMan, just remember that you are talking about the company that have the greatest Beat 'n' Up Franchise in its catalog and ignored it for 23 years, and was an indie dev who resurrect the game in question with a new sequel. I'm talking of course of Streets of Rage and Sega.
I get where he's coming from that the games sound design is out dated and lacking effects, especially for a "remastered" game in 2021, but for many long time fans the cheesy voices lines and older sound designs are a staple of Virtuia Fighter. The one solution I could think of for this is that they should have just made a game option to revert the game to classic mode. So people have an option to play traditional VF and made more changes to modernize it and make it more appealing to new comers.
I mean tmm talked about this bs nostalgia sht, sometimes old shit is just shit and you gotta swallow that big nasty disgusting truth down and just accept it was and is trash The game looks fun and interesting but only when you look closer to detail but the graphics and sounds are just too garbage
As a nobody who got into the game due to the rerelease, and it is now my main fighter. I just have to say: everything you said is valid. We say the same thing in our own circles. I don't want super bars, but I do want presentation and more "character" out of the characters.
Imo, this game is more aiming for the japanese community than the overseas players.VF has always been a big hit in its native country and has a larger community of players than Tekken especially in arcade centers. U have a card u use to transfer all the customization data from ur console which you can use in arcade machines to play the characters with ur own personalized outfits. That explains why they re putting so much efforts on the nostalgia vibes of this game trying not to not lose its essence.
I don't think that's what u call a review, but thanks for giving ur point of view. I'd sure be really pleased if they decide to update a new patch with the option to choose between new voices (I hate Lion's voice) and sound effects and the old nostalgic ones like they did forthe soundtracks and the polygons graphic outfits.
@@AllRightPinguinoRodriguez dude I've been both playing and followed vf5 since release... I have watched most vf5 tournaments till EVO 2018... And I'd still say the animations look stiff...
They're both good. Tekken has flashy presentation, lots of content and is fun, VF has great gameplay, depth and is more rewarding. Heck DOA has great arenas, tag mechanics, and physics. Most fighting games do things well but in different ways.
As a long time Sega fan... This is just normal Sega behavior if I'm being honest. They either knock something out of the park or they do the same thing over and over again trying to catch lightning in a bottle for 8 years while they sleep on IP's that would bring the community so much joy
You know I think in a weird way that Virtua Fighter fans enjoy their game being niche. Like they see it as a badge of honor that fewer people want to enjoy their game. Which to me makes no sense. That's why they dislike Tekken so much, because in their mind just because VF was first it should be better. When in reality Tekken did everything right that VF didn't. They kept supporting the series kept updating it, and more importantly they make cool and stylish characters and make the game fun to play and fun to watch if you understand it. And contrary to what they think, Tekken has a lot of depth as well. VF fans will not admit that to themselves. I just don't know why Virtua Fighter can't seem to do that. People see that as an attack when really it's just incredibly unfortunate. VF it's very deep and has a lot of depth, and honestly I love watching Wolf because he has some of the best throw animations. They just need to add some damn spice. Nobody orders a burger with just meat and bread. That's what Virtua Fighter is it's a burger with meat and bread. Like we get it, Kage is a ninja, what does he need to look like he was taken from the 1990s? We get it Pai does Kung Fu but she need to look like she was taken out of ancient China? Keep the old sound effects keep the old costumes and make a toggle option. People that want old school sound effects can have it. People that want to put on the old costumes and customization can. This isn't difficult. VF deserves to do well for once.
As a hardcore VF player, and long time advocate for the series, your first paragraph here is pretty off. Why do you think so many VF people are currently making videos & streaming for this new release? Because they want people to play. If no one plays, Sega has no reason to add more to the series. I also think you’ll find a lot of VF players play & enjoy Tekken. Do you think for 10 years they’ve only been sitting around playing FS? I have no problem admitting Tekken is a deep game. Frankly I think the whole ‘Tekken vs VF’ arguementnis stupid, a waste of time, and serves no one. Except clickbait trolls like The Main Man. Regarding VF characters lacking spice & character, for the most part I totally agree. It’s actually What I think Tekken does best.
@@hashenone I respect your opinion and viewpoint. It's cool to get some feedback from a VF veteran. That being said I can only speak from my own experiences. From what I have seen from the two communities, you'll find a lot more Tekken fans that respect the depth of VF, then you will VF fans that respect the depth of Tekken. I generally see Tekken fans praise VF more often than vice versa. The truth is that both games are incredibly deep at high level. However when I have tried to explain these things like counter hit properties, homing moves, just frames, three forms of throw-teching, neutral inputs, delayable strings, stances, duck cancels, ws inputs especially with Lee, wave dash, chickening, low parry etc...from my experience many of them refuse to acknowledge it. A lot of times I think they believe Tekken is nothing but combos that is extremely far from the truth especially at high level. It's not my intention to turn this into a VF versus Tekken argument, just like you I see value in both games and I understand that both games are incredibly deep and to be honest it's nice to meet a VF player that agrees. I just think a lot of VF players take out their frustration with Sega against the Tekken community. And honestly videos that are only made to make fun, like TMM made, they don't help. I believe the VF community probably feels exactly the same way I do. We deserve a VF game with style, character and genuine cool factor. I hope that this game has somehow rekindled an interest in Sega to make a PROPER VF6. Because one thing about it VF is very fun and it's only when you take the time to stick with it if you really see what makes it special. I personally just want other people to see that. You see I grew up playing VF. I played VF1 in the arcade, owned VF2 on Sega Saturn, VF3 on Dreamcast, VF4 etc. Basically I've owned every game so I've gotten used to it. However it does desperately need to be updated. Sega has to have fun with the damn series, make it cool and stylish. Doesn't mean they have to remove any of the depth. If VF and take anything from Tekken it should be understanding how to make a stylish game and make the characters look cool. Tekken is incredible when it comes to that. You might not like a specific Tekken character, but the one thing you won't be saying is that they are boring..
@@manrightchea again I agree w everything you’re saying about the game needing to be stylish. W regards to VF players not acknowledging things like low parries or chickens or just frames…. Those are just basic parts of the game’s system, so I’m not sure how anyone could deny they exist? Or are you saying the people you’re talking to don’t see that as depth? Frankly in all the years I’ve spent thinking about the differences between the games, and understanding what the core differences are, the only person I’ve heard articulate it well, online, is Arya (TBS) in his recent video.
I'm still upset about it not being on PC... But I'm pissed off about this just being a re-release of VF5, and not a new game entirely. They had a chance to revive the series and do it right, and instead they just put out a lazily re-released version of the last game with a reused visual engine from Yakuza being the only improvement; they didn't even implement better netcode. What a waste and a cheap cash grab. Apparently they're using this to gauge interest in a new VF, meaning we're never getting a new VF.
I tried Virtua Fighter 5 in 2007. Played it for 30 minutes and stopped because I couldn't stand how clunky the animations and the gameplay were compared to other 3d fighting games I was playing, namely Tekken, Soul Calibur and DOA.
So far, there is no issue finding people on Online Ranked. I play VF for a couple hours once every two days at least and it always takes me less than two minutes to find my next match. While waiting for my next match, I'm also practicing my combos, and more often than not I could not even finish my training until the next match pops up. Once you find a match, it is also very quick to get into it without waiting too long on the loading screen. The guy clearly is not a fan of VF and doesn't even attempt to play his first VF (VF4) if all he knows is just low jabs and 8P (when his opponent was down). He doesn't even know how side-step or tech-up works in this game (what a "True Fan" lmao). VF2 was the boom period for VF and the series continued to sell well until VF4 Final Tuned. VF4 was always considered to be better than Tekken 4 in both the arcade and PS2. VF5 (2006) was where the sales starting to dwindle, although the game was updated until 2010 and still popular in Japan.
Played Virtua Fighter 5:US recently and It's an amazing game despite the "inferior" visuals and hit-sounds(lol). I actually prefer VF5 over T8 as it feels like an actual fighting game based in reality, and the fact that there aren't any over-the-top mechanics like heat or Rage Arts... you don't even know how good it feels to not have to deal with that nonsense until it's all gone. VF is an amazing game and anyone who is a fighting game fan really ought to give it a try if you haven't already. It's very much worth your time.
Everything but the character redesigns for the characters look great! The desire for rollback code is subjective, especially not everyone been complaining about it unless they want to play against someone on the other side of the world.
@@EAprima I like most the designs, but they’re really safe. None of them are iconic IMO. Rollback is the new standard and online play is a huge part of a fighting games success. They can’t compete with their current netcode. The netcode has been good to me but I can’t say that for majority of players. I think they need to reboot and start back from VF1. I know the lore of VF, but most ppl don’t. A great story mode is definitely needed.
The entirety of VF5's "revival" seemed like it was clear Sega was completely out of touch from the moment they dropped that vague "Virtua Fighter E-Sports" trailer a while back. I remember when Virtua Fighter 4 came out, the graphics were mind-blowing at the time. It legit made Tekken 4 look almost low-budget in comparison, although TK4 did have a smooth look and I'm not saying it looked bad. VF4 was a great game, but it's no wonder why the series died after 5 came out. They just didn't really progress it in any meaningful way on top of being behind the curve when it came to online play and netcode. This remaster clearly was a low-budget affair. It's touched up in a few places (models, lighting) but it doesn't make the presentation noteworthy, and the dated sounds along with the bad netcode serve only to turn both old and potentially new fans away. I don't really have much faith in them executing a VF6 properly after seeing how this was handled.
This was clearly a test to guage interest. Low budget, lacking content, esports tag, AND ESPECIALLY it being on ps+. They knew this wasnt gonna sell. Tekken literally did this for their series in revolution when tekken was dying. This game was made in a year and in no way would any business expect this to be a money maker. This is just for a potential VF6
@@mehgamer467 But that just makes the awful execution of it all the more guaranteed to kill interest in a potential VF6. If this is meant to be positioned as some sort of business gauge, they did a terrible job of it.
@@Housesider they said that they were surprised of how many people were interested. Its not really awful considering its on ps+. Its not like they are losing a lot of money out of this since its based on downloads. Them doing this means there is a higher chance for vf6 cause they are willing to test the waters first instead of gambling and making vf6 only for it to fail. THAT would be a FAR dumber decision. Plus the fact its an exclusive means sony has interest in the series. This makes a far higher chance for vf6.
As much as I dislike the game, I must admit it has God-tier stages and backgrounds. Better than Tekken in some levels (Tekken Tag 2 has better stages than T7 in my opinion)
the fact that they used the very same sfx and voices for the virtua fighter chars in dead or alive 5 (while the doa chars themselves got better sounds and stuff) just shows how little they care for it.
The reasons why Virtua Fighter died : - Bad presentation like TMM stated. This game needs new animations and special effects. - overly complicated imputs for very basic moves, sometimes just a random punch ... - lack of fluidity with unnecessary just in time imputs Like you have to start doing the imput precisely at the end of an animation or else you will fail the move. - No story, no prologues/endings .... this game has no soul like you might as well go play UFC. - Extremely generic character design and personalities, intros and win poses. Like Jeffery almost looks like a racial stereotype smh.
The sad thing is that VF actually has a pretty good lore written in the manuals, but they've always been too lazy to show the story in game. That always weirded me out. The closest we got to this was the bonus ending in VF2 when Dural's metal skin fell off.
I agree with everything except the animations and special effects. The game has a lot of complex and realistic movement. The effects don't need to be overblown. Not anything needs to be a firework clusterfuck like Tekken. Also, the character designs need to remain simple but give more unique features to the costumes and personalities.
It does. Tekken as one motion capture for the entire cast for: foreward/backward/side/crouch/blocking. VF has one for each character. Beside the graphics, VF4 ps2 has more animation variety and overall design than Tekken 7 has. TMM is right when he says that the sound effects are outdated, but animations and characters unique move sets far ahead of Tekken.
I like that the sound effects are clear as hell. When you sidestep it’s clear, when you block it’s clear, and when you get hit it’s clear. Even if it’s old you can’t say it doesn’t do what it was supposed to do. Every sound is obvious about what it’s telling you and that’s refreshing
If you're into music production, you will know those sound effects are literally just kicks and snares lol.

I agree about tekken and old animations im okay with that as long as the hit box interactions and frames remain the same outside of new visuals
100% Agree. The combat system overall in Tekken is close to perfect for a 3d fighter. if they could give unique mocap for each character, the game would bang. Also id like Tekken to pull the camera a bit farther (like in VF) so we don't have the characters behind the huds or screen borders during matches.

In VF5 you can walk in EVERY direction of EVERY angle without having to tap anything. So what the hell are you talking about?
I like VF a lot but it really is a hard sell to anybody not already invested.

The worst part is how VF has the absolute minimal effort out into them and SEGA expects them to make money off of the name alone. Nobody gives a damn about VF anymore because even SEGA doesn’t give a damn to put the actual effort into the games. It’s a shame because for the gameplay is great.

They gotta make their characters look as good as they do on the loading screen like that in the actual gameplay
You cant say they are bland or boring cuz they are realistic and use real martial arts, cant be kangaroos or bears
They are very distinct, different and cool.

Sometimes you better to think twice before putting an opponent on the ground because more even than Tekken it can disadvantage you in many situations (near the wall, panic knocking down for example)
It's such a pleasure to well time and brutally crush an rising opponent kick tho !

Sega thought that they could really come back with this series, but barely tried to modernized it. It's honestly a shame really...
You missed the point man, this was easy to put out. It was simply Sega checking the waters for interest in the series.

Edited because it came across more aggressive than intended.
Honestl,y I might be on the minority here, but I actually love Virtua Fighter presentation
It's so outdated and old school that it turns completely on its head and it becomes really charming to me.
But it's not VF6 right?
I would agree with everything if it was a new installment.
A strange game to review.
>the animations are lacking
This a joke, right?

VF5 Ultimate was a big success for Sega. The team can leverage that into a VF6
VF's sound effects dates back to the first game
No one cares

If Bamco remastered Tekken 5 DR with better visual and etc. Trust me it will be a thing in evo.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who has a problem with Virtua Fighter's sound design and voice acting.
Lol the “Johnny” example is the perfect way to describe it 4:46
Still a great game though
I tried Virtua Fighter 5 in 2007. Played it for 30 minutes and stopped because I couldn't stand how clunky the animations and the gameplay were compared to other 3d fighting games I was playing, namely Tekken, Soul Calibur and DOA.
Hoping if their is a vf6 the sound, and animation gets better.
VF fans are excited and I hope more VF is coming!
Virtua Fighter 4 on PS2 still one of the best
Things VF6 absolutely need:
Reboot
Story mode
Rollback netcode
Character redesigns
Facts
Everything but the character redesigns for the characters look great! The desire for rollback code is subjective, especially not everyone been complaining about it unless they want to play against someone on the other side of the world.
@@EAprima rollback netcode isnt subjective, its objectively better than delay based(absorption or otherwise) for fighting games.
Its not really awful considering its on ps+. you really whined about sfx for 15 minutes bro get a life
the fact that they used the very same sfx and voices for the virtua fighter chars in dead or alive 5 (while the doa chars themselves got better sounds and stuff) just shows how little they care for it.
The reasons why Virtua Fighter died :
- Bad presentation like TMM stated.
This game needs new animations and special effects.
- overly complicated imputs for very basic moves, sometimes just a random punch ...
- lack of fluidity with unnecessary just in time imputs
Like you have to start doing the imput precisely at the end of an animation or else you will fail the move.
Why tekken 7 died:
- Bad Character design
@@josetovalenzuela4672 cope
I agree with everything except the animations and special effects. The game has a lot of complex and realistic movement. The effects don't need to be overblown. Not anything needs to be a firework clusterfuck like Tekken.
Also, the character designs need to remain simple but give more unique features to the costumes and personalities.
Jeff is from Australia you idiot. It's a natural look for black folks in that country.

It does. Tekken as one motion capture for the entire cast for: foreward/backward/side/crouch/blocking. VF has one for each character. Beside the graphics, VF4 ps2 has more animation variety and overall design than Tekken 7 has.
