Hi! I’m Filipina and live in Houston, I actually work with Chris as ICU nurses during the Covid season 🙌🏼 he’s the one who told me about this channel. You can get mangosteen at Asian markets like Viet Hoa on Beltway 8, or Hong Kong markets (there’s one on Scarsdale). But I think it’s seasonal. You guys adjusted well, so have more fun doing lots of family activities. Stay safe and God bless
Glad your best friends be able to come to the Philippines and experience some stuff. Hopefully they’ll comeback and experience more about the beautiful country has to offer.
I’m a Filipina from Houston and yes, no paper towels in the restrooms in the Philippines. You have to bring your own. Humidity in the Philippines is not as dry as Houston, thus, makes you sweat more which makes the people there loose weight easily despite eating so much carbs (rice for breakfast, lunch and dinner) nor any physical workout. I’m glad that you got to explore my country. You may find mangosteen in Hongkong Mall in Chinatown. Also, their driving may be crazy but you won’t see angry drivers and accidents seldom happens.
On point. Road rage in Manila is very uncommon. Filipinos are very patient. That's decades of getting used to hours stuck in traffic and waiting in long lines to get into restaurants, cinemas, halls, etc.
Thing is, paper towels is not our culture.. We use our hands to clean our mess lol.. I'd rather complain about lack of Bidet Spray or Tabo and water to clean your sh hhaha

I think it should be a mutual adoption of each others cultural traditions and customs. It's the best way for the country and the traveler to have growth and progress. Thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts!
Horning in the Philippines is usually to give a signal to other drivers especially when you are passing crossing lane or whenever you overtaking and the pedestrians for sudden passing jaywalking, these are all about to avoid accident and sometimes you give a go signal to ahead of you on a traffic when it's green, but the hornings are prohibited in some areas like school to avoid disturbance.
Of course its different, you know I always say this that whenever you go to any country you must be ready always put in your mind that things are not way it used to be back home its not the same country, also do not expect too much for anything coz it will cause desperation, chaos or despair, and leave your american attitude if possible to blend well deep with the culture you can breathe freely.. merry xmas see you next year if possible
I like the honest opinion of country comparison; but one thing we have to keep in mind when traveling we can't expect other countries to have the same U.S/Europe standards. You have to remember you are the "visitor" of that country you are traveling to, you have to respect the culture and the way of living. I have been guilty of this myself, but i do have a open mind more than I use to.

The Philippines is a tropical country with a hot and humid weather, so a sticky and uncomfortable feeling is normal. When you're planning to swim in a swimming pool, expect yourself to get wet.
Yes you are correct. They live in Houston which is also hot in humid but we all learned that the humidity here in PH was different than the humidity they were used too in Texas. They definetly ezxpected to be hot and sweaty but I don't think they knew exactly how much it would be.
If they happen to visit anywhere from Aug to October, you can take them to Davao City, they are known for their mangosteen, pomelo and durian 😋 you can get a kilo for 0.50$ during those months
Thanks! I was actually professionally traing in "interview and interrogation" techniques in my previous career so it comes in handy for these types of conversations ;)
I liked watching this vlog. Very smart girl doing the interviews for opinions and feedbacks. Glad the madam happily discovered her favorite Mangoosteen. Loved the girl's epilog at the end. So touching. Many thanks.
I can understand the comparison between the two countries and where they're coming from. I'm Fil-Am living here in Orange County for more than 30 years. I also frequently visiting Houston because my daughter lives there now. Yes, I agree about the "Filipino Time" and that's one of Filipino pet peeves I really hate. When you're meeting a friend in the Philippines and say you meet at 10am, don't expect he/she be on time. That 10am means 11am, LOL..
Traffic in the metro contributes to that. That is why it became a custom for Filipinos to don't prioritize time specially when just meeting friends. But going to their workplace or schools they still go on time.
We've learned to add the "ish" like 10ish or 11ish to time frames for ourselves because we're never totally sure if we're going to be on time because of the kids. Our boys are terrible with understanding time :)

Please take into consideration that we are comparing Houston (USA) and the Philippines, 1st vs 3rd world countries. I cannot argue with the weather because I just came back from a month long vacay and I didn’t appreciate the humidity. Toilet paper! Depending on what/where part of the country you’re in, toilet paper is as not popular as in the US, please refer to JoKoy’s 😂. In the province, some of us still don’t have access to easy water like in Manila or other cities, we need to walk miles and fetch the water, we conserve. So no toilet paper with limited water. Some dig a deep well for this. Thank you for pointing out the good and the challenges in this vlog. Thank you for visiting the Philippines.
Filipinos use water and soap more often than toilet paper. Toilet paper is used as their wiper to dry the wet butt parts.Toilet paper alone is not enough to wipe off all the good stuff in your butt. Many only use it to cover the toilet seat especially in public restrooms.
You need to visit the other islands because they have different scenic views. It’s different experience going to the beaches and island hopping in the south.
We agree! Unfortunately their time here was limited and we didn't get to go island hopping. That only means that they will be planning another trip in the future and we look forward to hosting them again!
Mall hours were adjusted by the government an hour later during weekdays but extended an hour too because of traffic situations. Mangosteen fruits said that it can prevent cancer and can cure some health problems. MX3 coffee is made from mangosteen. You can also buy them in capsule form in all of the leading supermarkets.
I don’t know if you have Seafood City Supermarket in Houston Texas, but here in California, we do have Seafood City it’s a Filipino Supermarket and they do sell Mangoesteen which is in the frozen aisle, or you can also go to any asian grocery store, mostly they sell them too. Have your friend try Rambutan I think she would like it too. I enjoy your vlogs and learn a lot from your travels.❤
I don't beleive they do have Seafood City - but they do have an area within Houston with some Asian markets so they might try looking there first. She did try a rambutan in Thailad as well and also enjoyed it :) thank you so much for watching!
Looking forward to your friends coming back to the Phil and seeing the rural parts of the country which are breathtaking and enjoying every minute of the countryside driving.
We have mangosteen here in the Bay Area California. We get them at Costcos. I tried to grow the seeds. But the weather here is not meant for it. So I failed. But I believe they come from central and south America. That's why they're so pricey.
Not sure which mall you went to but you usually see paper towel where there are hand-dryers. I personally use them to tap dripping water before I use the dryer so it’s quicker.
We’ve gone 🥰 and absolutely loved it. I was able to get a little bit of videos that I hope to share in an upcoming vlog. Hi! 😀Hope you and family are doing fine! I need to catch up on your vids! Hi! I really enjoy your videos. I live in Houston and I remember buying mangosteen at H-mart in Katy Texas. However I think it’s seasonal (not available year round)
Thank you so much for sharing! We’ve reminded our friends to keep an eye on the comments here so they can know where to get this amazing fruit! It was a seasonal item back in California as well so I did let my friends know they may have to wait until they are in season.
Regarding 11am opening time, the website/page simply wasn't updated. Mall/store opening/closing times are modified during the Christmas holidays to make traffic more manageable.
You are correct, however, we wanted to point this out so things like that can be updated. It's not fair to folks who are trying to plan their days according to the times that are posted. This is something we've learned in the few months that we've been living here and it's not that difficult to update a website or social media page when they know the hours will be changing. We appreciate your insight and thank you for watching the channel! Maligayang Pasko!
I am happy that your friends from Houston appreciate Filipinas; it has taken a long way to get to where we are now, and hopefully the current President, the son of Marcos, can fix what, for the most part, his father did when Sr. decided to pass a very painful martial law (weaponized military against its citizens) that really hurt the growth of the country and alienated foreign investment. Filipinas and I believe Vietnam will be considered a Tiger Economy/Market next year again, so expect continued modernization in Maynila, Cebu, and other provinces, including Tacloban, where I was born. I think you understand finance/banking and I think you would agree that right now Filipinas is a good investment. Pinas is getting there, and your channel helps with that by showing people how great the people are, how the infrastructure is improving, the food, and the pro-American culture.- Hopefully with improve infrastructure it will attract some of that market of tourist from Thailand and Vietnam and for the most part I see that and people are shock that everyone speaks english and very much pro-american culture so they feel safe. Mangosteen season is from April through August, but the demand here in the US is low, so it is hard to find. a ripe mangosteen in season. But here in Houston, you can get them from Linda's Tropical Fruits, Great Wall Supermarket. and sometimes at 99 Ranch Market. Mangosteen from India and Southeast Asia is the best. I think what we get ours here in Houston from Mexico. Yes, when I was growing up in Pinas until the age of 11, I witnessed people not washing their hands, and I was also surprised when I arrived in Texas that many Americans or Texans do not wash their hands after using the restroom. When I traveled through Europe, the same things applied. You would think this would have changed because of what we learned from COVID-19. In Western countries, the horn is generally associated with road rage and impatience, but particularly in Asia, it is used to communicate with other cars and pedestrians. I work for Schlumberger, an energy company here in Houston, and most energy companies, which have offices all over Asia and Middle East, use horn for our safety class. Once a month we all have to take defensive driving class at work, and we are told to use the horn when leaving a parking area and if we need to communicate with other drivers, but obviously with caution in America or Europe because someone might think we are being rude. By the way I don't know if you all notice when you were in Singapore, they don't use horns much like in big cities of Japan cause they are trying to change and finds it a bit of low class to continue to use horns. "LOL" Hell I use horn even here in Houston and when they look at me, I say cause I am an Asian Driver! haha Tell your friend to visit Jakarta or Indonesia one day if they want to experience hell on a motorcycle. Motorbikes, or I guess mopeds, are all over Indonesia; it's crazy even in Bali. Thank you for sharing your adventure and best wishes!
Wow very painful Martial Law HAHAHA what a laugh!!! Had the late President Marcos did not declare Martial Law at that time, when Joma Sison and Ninoy Aquino were terrorizing the country, to disrupt the peace and country developments, and lashing at the Marcos government for the people to switch loyalty to the COMMUNIST PARTY.. So without Martial Law on that time, then what would we be right now.. right, COMMUNIST! And Joma Sison's Communist Party of the Philippines, and Aquinos LIBERAL, DILAWAN and KAKAMPINKS PARTY, are still trying their best to convert the country into Communist! But majority of the filipinos had realized that now, and give the Marcos son a landslide victory majority vote, to win as the present president.. Philippines is really the best place for retiring age American family because the funds coming from their pension would really go a long way rather than spending retirement years in the US. The corned beef guy should try Purefoods corned beef (canned blue label) the best so far. Take them to El Nido beach hopping and snorkeling or Cebu on a canyoneering adventure.
Cool video. Filipino food was almost everywhere when I lived in Southern California. Now I live in Katy, TX (near Houston) and I can't find a decent Filipino restaurant. Maybe you know of one? 😁

So nice vlog...so comforting to hear from your friends that they feel you are ok and happily settled here in the Philippines after experiencing themselves what its like here. Thank you! Keep the vlogs coming...enjoyed watching them.
I agree about the security out there. Whenever there was another shooting incident in school here I thought it's because of lack of security guards in schools where the children were supposed to be in a safe place. Even in the mall and in banks here in California there were not enough security guards nor it was in place. I worked in the bank for 16 years and I can tell the security guards were carrying shotgun and firearms in the bank for security. It's safer out there in Manila. BGC is a new city and beautiful. I haven't been there but I have seen in TH-cam how great it is. I haven't visited my hometown in Quezon city since 2010. Can't wait to visit again soon.
...and guards will not hesitate to shoot especially if the culprit or culprits are behaving violently, armed or not armed. In US you see people looting, destroying properties and guards or police look helpless. That is not the way to instill discipline and fear of the law.

Inside HEB in Houston (SW) has great Filipino Restaurant. Bellaire Blvd (SW) has many Asian Stores that sell tropical fruit, they had rambutan so they may have mangosteen.
South east Asians not used of using tissues, paper towel or paper hand towel and whatnot, maybe because of the additional cost and imagine how many trees you have to cut down just to have something to dry your hand and or even to wipe our butt, use water instead much better and cleaner. and too much using of toilet paper is one of the reason the toilet clog up.
I hear what you’re saying Andrew. I am certainly no toilet paper expert. But Google says there’s a bunch of ‘recycled toilet paper’ out on the market. Amazon has many options as well.
I agree that it's costly, but it's also difficult for travelers or visitors to get the whole bidet thing just right. I still have trouble with it myself and I've been living here for almost 6 months now. It's even harder to dry hands with toilet paper... which is what I was trying to explain on this video. But I'm glad there was always working water and soap at least... ;) thank you so much for watching!
@@LLVT I know right, it is a bit difficult if you are not used to it. What I'm doing when I'm traveling is bringing my own towel/face towel. just like taking my own water canister instead of buying bottled water, lil things would help to Mother Earth.
Paper towels are more costlier than toilet tissue. That is why some places use hand dryer instead. So they only provide toilet tissues to clean our butt. Some countries we also use hand bidet or bum gun too. It is cleaner to use both water and toilet tissue.
They are more expensive correct. I think the trouble was that there was no hand dryer and only toilet tissue to dry hands - which is not effective at all. I don't mind the bidet but seeing how so many folks chose not to wash their hands when leaving the CR scares me to touch the hand bidet. I've tried to memorize which malls have the better bathrooms.... :)

I think it should be a mutual adoption of each others cultural traditions and customs. It's the best way for the country and the traveler to have growth and progress. Thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts!
I love both countries.

You’re SO blessed to be able to live in the Philippines. My family is so jealous✨🫧🤍🪅
Thank you! We truly are blessed, don’t be jealous, I bet you can/will do it too someday 🙏🏼
Maybe I missed it…what did they say that was disrespectful??
@@abelity I never said anything about being "disrespectful". YOU did not miss anything. All i said was i like the honest opinion. Just like the bathroom hygiene, toilet tissue, etc. I can relate to that. You seem to misunderstood!
Yes we can all show respect for the country we are visiting and/or living in but it's also ok to point out certain inefficiences that you might find and even suggest solutions. It' could be useful for future travelers to be better prepared. Thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts :)

What a wonderful time Together...and knowing what is there and doubts that have been proven...it was all worth it......
I'm glad that they were happy to see us doing well and thriving :)
If they happen to visit anywhere from Aug to October, you can take them to Davao City, they are known for their mangosteen, pomelo and durian 😋 you can get a kilo for 0.50$ during those months
Good to know for them and also for myself! Mangosteen is my all time most favorite fruit 🥰
Mangosteen are sometimes sold in Costco in the bay area. Happy holidays!
I've heard about this! So glad more people are getting access to this incredible fruit.

Experience the fun… of the “fiesta” or feast-celebration at the provinces/towns. For sure all of you will love it❤️👍🏼😉😀
Yes! Once we choose a province to build a home in, I am sure we will get to experience those types of celebrations!
Hello… glad to have your friends visited the Philippines.
We are so lucky to have such incredible friends to come and visit us!
I call it island time
we're sorry sir heheheh bad pet peeves
We've learned to add the "ish" like 10ish or 11ish to time frames for ourselves because we're never totally sure if we're going to be on time because of the kids. Our boys are terrible with understanding time :)
@@JC0820 aside from traffic is just a habit of many Filipinos proven and tested 🤣 im one of them actually...well before....i am American time now or japanese disciplined

So many great festivals all throughout the Philippines!
hmmm let me check 88 ranch for mangosteen. I didn’t see that in Island Pacific but 88 Ranch not sure if they have.
Thank you so much for offering to check - these friends are from Houston though so if its the 88 Ranch in Temecula that won't work for them ;) hopefully we have Houston viewers who can tell us where to find it!

Thank you so much for subscribing and we appreciate the positive vibes!! Salamat po!
Thank you so much for watching and Maligayang Pasko!
Filipinos use water and soap more often than toilet paper. Toilet paper is used as their wiper to dry the wet butt parts.Toilet paper alone is not enough to wipe off all the good stuff in your butt. Many only use it to cover the toilet seat especially in public restrooms.
I’m so glad that u’r friends enjoyed Manila…
We are glad they enjoyed it too :)
Lol the bloopers made me laugh so hard 🤣 ummm, ummm. You can tell I’m not used to the camera 😂 loved the ending. Great job, guys.
You can find mangosteen at any asian store like H-Mart or 99 Ranch in Houston. However the cost is way expensive than in Bangkok or Manila.
Thank you so much! I bet she'd definetely pay more to have them there in Houston.
@@LLVT you’re welcome. I keep watching your blog😍
Looking forward to your friends coming back to the Phil and seeing the rural parts of the country which are breathtaking and enjoying every minute of the countryside driving.
Yes, we are looking forward to that as well ☺️
We have mangosteen here in the Bay Area California. We get them at Costcos. I tried to grow the seeds.
But the weather here is not meant for it. So I failed. But I believe they come from
central and south America. That's why they're so pricey.
Thank you for letting our Bay Area viewers know where they can find it!!
Not sure which mall you went to but you usually see paper towel where there are hand-dryers. I personally use them to tap dripping water before I use the dryer so it’s quicker.
Several malls unfortunately only have toilet paper to use rather than paper towels. We've learned to bring extra washcloth to dry our hands instead ☺️
Not Huston, but Hong Kong Market in Atlanta often has Mangosteen.

Hi! 😀Hope you and family are doing fine! I need to catch up on your vids! Hi! I really enjoy your videos. I live in Houston and I remember buying mangosteen at H-mart in Katy Texas. However I think it’s seasonal (not available year round)
Here in PH, it’s available all year round.
Go to Flushing here in New York and you'll find most grocery stores selling mangosteen.
Awesome! Thank you for sharing ☺️
"LOL" Hell I use horn even here in Houston and when they look at me, I say cause I am an Asian Driver! haha
Tell your friend to visit Jakarta or Indonesia one day if they want to experience hell on a motorcycle.
And alligations of massive cheating has just been put to rest, with the admittance of the KAKAMPINK losing presidential candidate Leni Robredi, that with all their checkings, they didn't find a single proof of cheating!

Some countries have recycled paper towels…No need to destroy environment. 👍🏼
@@abelity you can't recycle toilet paper though

Philippines was a former U.S. Territory from 1899 to 1945, so just imagine there's a lot of American influence in our country even our mentality is American like the way we dress up, like for guys we love jackets/hoodie with caps, Nike shoes, shorts, for women wearing jeans, caps, etc...
