Chad, those Louis and Duke albums are amazing. I got the old classics. If you can UHQR them... I can't even imagine the sound...
Thanks for all your work on making your company, in my opinion, the best in reissuing.

You are so right about Gene Ammons!! I first heard his music in the background at my neighborhood barbershop. The barbers were big fans of Jazz and that later influenced my musical tastes. all that jazz sounded so good at the barbershop and now sounds soo good on my turntable

You picked some truly truly great jazz albums, Chad! 😻 So many people are focused on the '50's and '60's small group jazz artists like Miles & Trane, but I'm so glad that you picked albums with people like Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington. They are absolutely extraordinary and are two of my very favorite artists out of any genre. 😻 You won't hear anything better than Armstrong playing West End Blues or Ellington performing live at Newport in '56! 😻

Louis Armstrong is one of my favourite artists of all time, his work with Ella is just crazy good. Then of course James Brown. Would AP ever get a license for some of his records? I’ve just got the Sounds of QRP, and OMG, talk about demo quality!

I have all but two of these (and the 33 and 45 of Time Out). I can confirm that Chad's recommendations in this video are very solid. These are all gems - absolutely great music and exceptional SQ.
I'd encourage folks to buy any of these that are in stock. (Of course, stream them first if you're not sure you'll enjoy the music.)

My Favorites too, Chad; for longer than I can recall! Fremer turned me on to the Ellington Masterpieces about 10 years ago, it's still delightful, You and Stelly insisted I buy a copy of King Oliver 20 years ago. Glad to see you agree that these are timeless offerings, that every music aficionado should experience..

I played the three Gene Ammons AP records over the past two Sunday mornings, and I think I have another tenor to add to my list of favorites along with Coleman Hawkins, Ben Webster, Don Byas, and Dexter Gordon. Very impressive indeed.

Im delighted to be old enough to say i have most all of these titles - either in SACD or Tube Masterted Gold CDs from Acoustic Sounds (along with a couple from MobileFidelity) back in late 90s and early 2000s.
I’d replace the CDs with SACDs if they were released :)
Otherwise, these are all so incredible already… not going anywhere till i pass on… delighted to have them in my library.

I enjoy seeing recognition for “Francis A. and Edward K.” It’s an album that deserves more recognition but also suffers from some production issues which reflect themselves in the stereo mix (too many mics used, perhaps). Really wish a remix could be done but at least there are some mono (not fold-down) white label promos still out-and-about in the market, as they sound great overall.

my ego was gratified to find I own a couple of the recommended albums . but I don't kid myself, my collection was assembled randomly, so record advice from such a knowable person, to me, is like having John Muir giving me camping tips.
one notable fact about the Ellington orchestra is that the sound of the band was passed down from player to player, the sound of the band wasn't just in the musical notation , it had to be learned from another humans understanding of how the band needed to play the sounds, with unique interpretation of the written notation, much like eccentric dancing is passed down.from dancer to dancer.
I also greatly enjoy that the digital age allows me to get some idea of the presented material, so I am not just buying a stereo demonstration record, but something I will actually play.

Tape hiss is part of the master. If the original tape's hissy, that should be reflected in the record. If the hiss is filtered or no-noised out then it's no longer a high fidelity record

We picked these because they were great sounding. I know it's a lot of Ellington and I could've picked 90 other records that are great sounding, but these are the ones I chose that day and feel strongly that they are great sounding jazz albums. We did have a bit of a misleading title - "Chad Kassem's Top Favorite Jazz Albums" that doesn't sound right and it wasn't an accurate description. We've updated the title to be more accurate to what I was trying to showcase.
