    Alternatively you can just put 2 chargers of the same voltage in parallel to get a certain amount of power and it will work fine. To give an idea of how much charger wattage will affect your efficiency, I had a 360 watt charger before the 720 watt one and I only got around 120 mpg, and I had to stop and wait for the generator to replenish the battery. Cheap slow chargers will be even worse. Make sure to match your generator and charger properly (80% rated power is a good starting point).

    Love me some trollscience, conventional rules were made to be broken. You now have the insane torque of electric with the power density of gas ⛽️ Well done. Pro tip: Put a muffler on that generator and you're in for a much more pleasant drive.

      Yeah it’s a bit loud, but not ear splitting. After about 3 hours it gets tiring so I just put in ear plugs. Thx for commenting! Best of both worlds.

    Nice work, building one. Now make a wood gas generator on a one wheel trailer and turn that sucker carbon neutral.

    I always wondered why they didn’t put a gas generator in the truck of electric cars

    Thanks for the video Timothy. I am planning a trip thru Southeast Asia on an electric recumbent trike. My idea was to have a pull behind trailer and placing the generator and an extra battery in it as well as misc gear. I wanted to get the most out of the generator while it is running. Do you think that when I have the generator running I could charge the extra battery, get a step down transformer to go from 120v to 48 vdc and wire up to hub motor running separate from the original battery setup, with its own speed controller AND charge the battery I am using to power the bike all at the same time?

      @timothyyon6418  19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I would just charge the battery while you are using it… that way you can run the motor and charge the battery. You can charge the extra battery at the same time with another charger

    I have a 52v 30ah battery. Can’t I just use the existing charger that it comes with, plug it directly the generator?

    • @timothyyon6418
      @timothyyon6418  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Sure. It might not keep up with your usage though. It also might be unreliable. I had to replace my cheap charger with a fanless led power supply because it overheated in the sun.

    Good day Tim .. I currently have forE bikes and scooters and had decided I want to build a hybrid to eliminate the cost of batteries tired of only being able to ride 30 miles and I have to wait to charge but my big question is why can’t we use a four stroke thousand light generator to a conversion box 48 V 600 W directly to the controller and eliminate the battery all together rather than plug in parallel this way we eliminate the weight of the battery and the cost all together and strictly run electric current supplied by the generator and converter ????

    • @timothyyon6418
      @timothyyon6418  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You could… but it would be less efficient than using a charger, or just directly driving the wheel from the engine. Charging a battery allows you to always run the engine at maximum efficiency, and allows you to periodically use more power than the engine can supply. Plus you get the option to ditch the heavy gas engine for short trips and enjoy the silent electric power.

    My only worry was something like this is that the battery isn't supposed to be charged when being used and you take a chance at thermal Runaway, otherwise great job and it's nice to see something like this

    i have a few questions if you dont mind helping ,,, i wat to get a rad power wagon ebike can i make it so i can use this with or without the gas going ,, like if i want to ride my bike in the country where i can use the gas or the city where its frowned on or not legal in certain places > yet still use my e bike with just battery alone ?

    • @timothyyon6418
      @timothyyon6418  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It’s literally just a generator and a charger. You charge the bike while you are using it with the generator, when you don’t want to use gas just remove the generator and the chargers and it will work fine

      @@nynut518 You will likely need to add in a connection to the main battery since you will need a charger capable of keeping up with usage, mine is about 600 watts or so. Keep in mind that you can run 2 chargers in parallel. Otherwise it’s a very simple set up. Your factory charger is likely not up to the task, I would recommend using a mean well power supply with no fans, alternatively you can waterproof a charger that has a fan with epoxy if you are comfortable. A lot of the cheap chargers don’t have thermal throttling and they can break if out in the hot sun, best to get a good one. Look up mean well power supply ebike charger.

    Can't you just reduce voltage and plug it directly on the controller?

    • @timothyyon6418
      @timothyyon6418  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You don’t even have to reduce voltage. It’s just way more efficient to use the generator at max efficiency charging a battery than to run it at partial throttle. I also get way more peak power this way.

      the point is to run a gas motor generator in it's most efficient operating range. He knows he is using gas, but he's doing this for long trip efficiency
