Your drone video captured the beauty of the Vermont mountains perfectly. Sorry about Mount Mansfield Toll Road. I guess they don't want to attract motorcycles because clearly motorcycles are more nimble than any car or truck. Mt. Ascutney has a road that allows motorcycles. Vermont is my favorite New England motorcycling state. Nicely done, Lea.
I’m discovering our beautiful country and some of our forgotten history through your videos . Thanks Leah for showing the world the beauty of this amazing planet called earth. 😊
I did route 100/108 so many times: perfect asphalt, curvy as hell (north part) and almost desert. People are friendly and relaxed. I live at 1h30 from USA borders… Vermont is definitely the best place for motorcyclists. Thanks for sharing your trip!
LOL..I just knew that you were going to stay at the Von Trapp lodge. in 1998 I took my then Austrian girlfriend on my ride East. Arriving in Stowe in the rain, we stayed the night there. The following morning as we left, she had no idea that I was going to surprise her by riding up to the Von Trapp lodge...Getting off the bike at the lodge, and as she looked at the lush green surroundings and the lodge, tears of joy came to her eyes as she said, " I feel like I am home in Austria". Surprised even more that I had booked us a room for the night there, and she got to become familiar with the Von Trapp story. Lovely episode Lea. Looking forward to the next one. Happy riding.
I too was let down when I found out motorcycles aren't allowed up Mt Mansfield but if you are looking for an awesome mountain road head to Mt Ascutney for their auto road ! At least once a year they do time trial races going up for motorcycles but it's open for all when there is no snow .
Ben n Jerry's can bite the dust as far as in concerned. The new owners are all business not caring about people. I reported how chomping on a crunch in their brand broke a tooth. Curious if it was truly that hard we tried a hammer, boy was it tough to break. Thinking this was unsafe and possibly not meant for human consumption I notified them of the event. NOTHING! I expected something along the lines of thank you for bringing this to our attention, we are checking into it as consumers are a great concern. NOTHING!
Having become a Vermonter myself, I was delighted to see your excellent video! I look forward to seeing your other videos in this series. If you ever travel through Vermont again, I would highly recommend VT-17, a beautiful road that climbs and descends in twists and turns betweeen VT-7 in the west and VT-100 in the east. Cheers!
My home area, grew up in a neighboring town to Stowe and worked in Stowe. Even being a resident, for most of my life, I always knew how beautiful it is. As a motorcyclist, rt100 is indeed a great ride. Nicely done video, brought back many great memories. Including going to the first Ben&Jerrys in nearby Burlington Vt.
Never knew that the Trapp Family and The Sound of Music weren't much known in Austria and Germany. I barely got to see Vermont when I lived in New Hampshire, and hope to go back there some day. Did see quite a bit of beautiful Maine, so look forward to the next video! Happy trails!
I guess you will know many places then that I visit in the next two videos! And yes, it’s not known in Germany and Austria at all! I indeed had never heard of it until I visited a few places here in Europe that are famous for Sound of music too - and started to wonder what that actually is 😳
Many years ago when I lived in upstate NY Adirondack region, Vermont was a favorite destination to get away especially in the Fall. The colors are amazing.

You captured the name of the state. Fifteen state names are either French words / origin (Delaware, New Jersey, Louisiana, Maine, Oregon, Vermont) or Native American words rendered by French speakers (Arkansas, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Mississippi, Ohio, Wisconsin). Christopher Plummer (Trapp man) is from Toronto, Canada.
I was in Vermont some years ago with my family and it’s absolutely beautiful. The state has some of the best covered bridges in the US. Lea thanks for sharing it brought back some memories. 😊

Wow Lea, I never realised how beautiful those north-eastern states are, truly stunning. But Lea you are responsible for me breaking my diet and eating a complete tub of Ben & Jerrys cookie dough after you visited the factory and planted that seed in my head ha-ha. Thank you it was delicious.

Wow! Having spent 15 years in Vermont, teaching at Middlebury College, you have awakened many memories. But the best was from many years before when I and my family stayed overnight at the Trapp Family Lodge. Thank you for screening!
I drive most of your route every weekend, I live just north of Rutland, instead of going over Route 4 to reach 100, I take route 73 over Brandon Gap, and connect with 100 just as you enter Rochester.... then I drive north to Waterbury to pick up my friend and we head to Stowe or the surrounding area, travel some back roads just spending the day taking in the beauty that is Vermont.. We often kayak in lakes and ponds in the area....
Thank you Lea for showing us all that. About the road closed for bikes. Thats America. They go to curch on Sunday and everything is ok... Thanks for shering.
Great video on Vermont, Living in upstate N.Y. it not far to go for a weekend getaway and lots to explore. Glad you enjoyed another of the New England states.
The road closed to motorcyclists about 15 years ago and is dirt top to bottom. I rode it on a street bike a few times before being closed to motorcycles The long and short of it is, too many people were getting hurt. There are several steep hairpin turns with loose gravel. Unless experienced handling those conditions, it's not difficult to get yourself in trouble.
Come back to Vermont. You missed so much. You need to ride the Vermont Puppy Dog Route south to north. One of the best ways to discover Vermont. Enjoy your riding adventures.
Wonderful video again. Ever get back down our way again you might want to try stopping by Killington Mountain. Great skiing and it’s a little bit more accessible than stow
Beautiful video! I wonder why Making Whoopi Pie didn’t make the cut? 😂 That doesn’t make any sense why they wouldn’t let you ride the toll road! Like you said motorcycles are smaller? Maybe they had an incident that caused the decision. Very disappointing for sure. A wonderful video anyway! Best!

OO you are half Austrian ... you look like Austrian.... I have austrian friends at my work place....it was a good video,,, ice cream seems very tasty.... thanks once again... beautiful lea......
This was great. I live in New England, specifically Connecticut so Vermont is a place I have been to many times. YOu did a great job representing the state. I usually don't venture more than an hour from my home on my motorcycle but this video wants me to get my motorcycle up to Vermont. I wonder after staying at the Trapp Family Lodge have you decided to watch the Sound of Music?
I grew up in Vermont, just on the other side of Smuggler's Notch from Stowe, but moved away many years ago for work. Some of Vermont's best riding is on the dirt roads that criss-cross the entire state (check out the VT section of the NEBDR for a real adventure and scenery, but do your research first - some sections are a real handful on a big bike, but they have scenic bypasses). I'm glad you got to see the area around Stowe. I have no idea why the Mt. Mansfield auto road doesn't allow motorcycles, but I suspect it is because of cruiser riders with loud aftermarket pipes causing disruption and getting lots of complaints. Those roads can be a little treacherous on 2 wheels as they get steep and can have some drop-offs and tight corners, but it's nothing compared to what you would see in other parts of the world. In fact, you can take a motorcycle up the Mt Washington auto road one state away in New Hampshire, which (IMO) is even better. And scarier. Definitely only go when the weather is completely clear. Speaking of which, judging from the weather when you stopped at Mt. Mansfield, you didn't miss much anyway. The summit would have been completely in the clouds with no view and it would likely have been very wet and cold. At that point it's just a higher-altitude parking lot. I think the gondola ride (if you aren't hiking) is a better experience than the auto road. Too bad it wasn't open yet. You should definitely come back sometime during the summer.
So, have you watched The Sound of Music yet? I bet most Americans don't know about this history you have given us with the Von Trapp family, so thank you for that!! And for the ride around Vermont! Always a pleasure to ride around with you!
I believe its closed to bicycles and motorcycles because of rock fall dangers. Todays cars are thin aluminum like a can and offer no protection either so makes no sense to me either. Its all the same risk. Thank you for sharing your enjoyable travels!
Thanks for another awesome episode, Lea. I love ice cream and that was some very interesting background on Ben & Jerry's . Will definitely have to visit and do the smugglers notch. And the background on th Vonn Trapp family was fun too. Surprised to hear no one in your part of the world heard of the sound of music. I hope you have watched it by now 😁 Cheers

As a native vermonter I've avoided some of the touristy areas like Mt Mansfield and with a no motorcycle policy guess I won't. Have done 100 end to end Rte 5 is also amazing. Beautiful state. Live in Massachusetts now but still near Connecticut River have lived and traveled its length many times. Enjoy
you missed some great "gaps" on your way to the ice cream parlor. you can thank the "loud pipes save lives" bunch for being turned away at that toll road. over in New Hampshire we have a better road to the top of Mt Washington and there are days when only bikes are allowed. NH has the best riding in New England. i enjoy your videos and your book as well.
It’s such a pitty - I wish they would just leave those motorcycles out because all my bikes are more quiet than the huge suvs everyone is driving in the USA 😒😒😒
@@Got2Go I suspected this is why they don't allow bikes on the auto road there. There is a very large contingent of "American brand" riders in the state that really like their loud pipes. The noise is incredibly disruptive in quiet, natural areas and I'm sure that complaints from tourists are what led to the motorcycle ban on the mountain. As an avid hiker myself, I honestly can't say I blame them.
In my opinion, the Stowe toll road, was quite a bit more difficult to ride than the Mt. Washington Auto road. I rode the Stowe road twice before it closed and I've been up Mt. Washington at least a dozen times on a motorcycle and long before it was mostly paved. I think it was more an issue of bike accidents than loud pipes that closed the road to motorcycles/bikes. There were a number of crashes due to the steep hairpin turns and loose gravel.
💥🤯😵😳 Cookie Dough is no more? 😵💫😖😫😭😭😭 I thought the pizza deliveries around here just didn't have it any more and that I would one small day I would find it again, somewhere in the least likely shop. But it's in the graveyard of flavours! 😓 The only comfort that remains for me is another high quality Got2Go-video! 🤗😍
Noooo I don’t think it’s the normal cookie dough, that’s a classic! It’s chocolate chip cookie dough yoghurt , so a big mixture of everything!!! I speak out of experience but there are still a lot of cookie dough flavors on the market 😂

P.S. I love this film The Sound of Music I‘ve seen this film when I was still in the Philippines and by the way nice to know your half Austrian 🇦🇹 wish you luck with your adventures in the U.S. SERVUS AUS WIEN 🌹😘🍀
very cool / beautiful .
Thank you!
Proud to live in "802"
Me too..From Montpelier but live in Barre the last 9yrs
Thank you for the wonderful journey with the most beautiful scenery !Lea ,your videos are awesome !
Enjoy
I saw the sound of music for the first time in my life just 2 weeks ago 🙂I'm born in 1967
Haha that is funny! I have still not seen it! Did you like it? Should I watch it?
@@Got2Go It wasn't a life-changing experience, but a sweet story 🙂
you missed some great "gaps" on your way to the ice cream parlor. you can thank the "loud pipes save lives" bunch for being turned away at that toll road. over in New Hampshire we have a better road to the top of Mt Washington and there are days when only bikes are allowed. NH has the best riding in New England. i enjoy your videos and your book as well.
It’s such a pitty - I wish they would just leave those motorcycles out because all my bikes are more quiet than the huge suvs everyone is driving in the USA 😒😒😒
@@Got2Go suvs come in all sizes but are quiet. it's the loud cruiser type bikes that make all the racket.
The only comfort that remains for me is another high quality Got2Go-video! 🤗😍
Noooo I don’t think it’s the normal cookie dough, that’s a classic! It’s chocolate chip cookie dough yoghurt , so a big mixture of everything!!! I speak out of experience but there are still a lot of cookie dough flavors on the market 😂
@@Got2Go As I read out loudly what you wrote here I hear a quiet rattle from under my bed. I guess that was my scale being scared. 🤔🤫
Me, I am rather happy about these news! 🤗🥲🤤
I don´t enjoy icecream that much, but I certainly enjoy the activism part! Have never been in that corner of the US, but it´s looks fantastic. Thx Leah for the introduction to that state!
How can you not enjoy ice cream! 😂 no, I think that’s fair, at least you would have saved a lot of calories when visiting the factory 😅
Schönes Land, schöne Straßen, schöne Frau. Interessante Geschichten und leckeres Eis. Was will man mehr? Danke, Lea.
Danke für den Kommentar! Vermont ist wirklich toll!
Beautiful place!
Beautiful
13:30 Oh . ..no motorcycle allowed !... Sad..☹️
Hello Lea . Ich habe es mir vorgenommen meine vlogs nicht nur auf Französisch zu machen . Ich bin mir davon bewußt daß ich kein gutes Accent hab .... Who is perfect ?..Nevertheless I have been silently teaching it all to myself on internet an YT for years during my free time . Ich hoffe Frankreich wird dir gut gefallen .
Liebe Grüße aus tiny Frankreich . Et à bientôt ! Continue ton bon travail car ta chaîne est tout simplement géniale !
That sounds great, will have a look at them!
