Great video, just subbed. This was one of my first NES games. It was definitely super hard back in the day because the only thing you could do to figure it out was calling Nintendo Power hotline, reading a strategy guide or having a friend who knew the tricks of the trade from playing it non-stop. The messed up translations, wrong info and probably overworked designers in Japan shipping these things to the USA were most of the difficulty I think. Ah well, It's still a really fun run.

Thanks for the anniversary wish, Buddy! Freddy vs Jason was fun when it first came out because of the sheer novelty of finally seeing the two characters share the screen. There's a lot about the film that bugs me these days though, so I rarely watch it. For me personally, I was very bummed when the new content on the Friday the 13th game had to stop, primarily because I was going to be a part of one of the DLC releases which would've been absolutely awesome to have my name stamped on a small piece of the F13 franchise. I enjoyed the game immensely as well. It was a huge part of my life during that time. Thanks for the cool words, Man! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. 🍻
The game is hard until you learn the sequence of the messages in the cabins. Also, that axe in the woods cabin can show up on day 1 and you can then upgrade it from Pamela for a second torch.
Funny thing about this game is, Part 7 Jason is on the cover, there are no campers or camp counselors in the movie. They chose Part 3 Jason as the LJN interpretation of Jason when it's clearly Part 6 Jason. Once again Happy 15th LK.

I don't think I've attempted this game legit in 25 years, always used Game Genie codes since then because I was unaware of good strategies until recent years. Thought about pulling it out in October to try this strat (seen from another TH-camr) but didn't get around to it. Next time, I'll have to reference this video as a guide. I'd like to get NES Jason's goat f'real just once. "Is this my lucky day?" This and more from "Questions never asked when face-to-face with Michael Myers". Also, lol at Jason tipping his drink upon Michael's entrance. Dimetapp, that takes me back. LK's right, that stuff was great. Versus your standard cherry cough syrup, which I thought tasted terrible. But if I ever had just a hint of a cold coming on, I was asking for that purple drank.
0:15 - Not me. Here's a twist. I actually liked Friday the 13th on NES. And I've beaten it, multiple times. It was the first NES game I ever beat, even before Super Mario Bros. Not even kidding. And this was back before the advent of emulators and walkthroughs. You light the fireplaces, get the torch on Day 1 and then you can pretty much annihilate Jason, getting the sweater on Day 2 for the added defense once you get to Day 3. You never need the pitchfork. It's really as simple as the video makes it look.
When I played it as a kid, it was a rental with no instruction manual. Had no clue how to play it, so thought it was a shitty game. Came to like it as an adult once I actually learned how to play it.
No matter what day it is I prefer to use the enter and exit the cabin strategy to force him to face me outside of the cabin I'm not good at the punch-out style dodging I might have to take an unavoidable hit outside of the cabin but I'll take less damage and if I fight him in side
I wish we could get like an official ljn collection I know not all the games are good but if they could just put this one and nightmare on elm Street on modern hardware with rewind and state saves it would be worth the price
For me I just can't seem to hit him on the third day, every time I throw the torch at him when he retreats, he's to fast or it's to slow and it misses. I don't know if there's some sort of trick to that but I never hit him that way, only way I hit him is by throwing the torch at him when he runs up, but he will hit you too if you do that. You seem to hit him just fine but I never can, so not sure if I'm doing something wrong or what. I can clear days 1 and 2 pretty much every time now but day 3 is almost always a loss unless I get good luck with finding him outside the cabin. Usually the way I win on day 3 is by getting the sweater on day 2 with a fast counselor with the torch, putting them in the top left cabin on day 3 and hoping he shows up there, since he does a lot for some reason. I step outside to make him appear outside than I go right and he'll just keep appearing again and again till I kill him. If he ever manages to get into the children's cabin on day 3, that's pretty much game over for me.
That's a good strategy with the torch on Day 3, and in addition I'd advise practicing on fighting Jason in the cabins to get the feel for it down. A good example of the pattern he follows and when to hit him can be seen at 10:57. Also, if you have a counselor equipped with the axe on Day 3, you can send them to the cave to kill Jason's Mother to get the pitchfork. It's as strong as the torch and having both weapons will give you two counselors who can deal major damage to Jason.

I give this game credit for the fact that it made the torch useful. Lots of games make it a gimmick weapon. Ghost and goblins for example

It's a great strategy. Plus he rarely seems to block the door, so it's usually golden.
