- Thanks for watching another addition to Jack's "SHORT REELS"
This was filmed on the Monongahela Railways Manor branch at the location
known as FORK. Bailey mine is the only mine on this branch.
NS, ex-Conrail SD40-2's #3355-3365-3364, sure sound good getting underway with a loaded PPLX coal train N22. Two NS GE's shove on the rear, and don't sound NEAR as good as the classic EMD's.
Please be sure to check out my many other video clips from
the 1970's up to today. God Bless

I've been a subscriber to Jack for many years... He uploads a heart stopping video and you think to yourself, How in the world will this ever be beat? Then outta nowhere he strikes again with another video that beats the last. This channel is the Holy Grail of Railroading of the past. 💯👍
What a contrast between the lead locos and the rear helpers. The rear are on like silent mode. The SD40 is THE BEST locomotive ever made. Over 50 years of service. Best sounding locomotives. I don’t even railfan anymore since 2nd generation stopped running the rails. The new wide cabs bore me! You dont get the deep basy sound from the phone speaker like you hear in person. It vibrates your insides. Back in the 1980’s I lived just over a mile from a main line that had a decent grade and at night you could hear the constant roaring of SD40’s and GP38s for like 10 minutes climbing the grade and it became like a surround sound with the lead locomotives coming from the north and the middle or rear sound coming from the south. Total stereo at a mile away. I use to sit in my backyard and love it. Trains these days are a total bore. Nothing was better than freight trains in the 1970’s and 80s
Come to the Ohio River and watch some towboats. Most of them still run emds
Amazing video! Lovely enine sound! Great capture! MEGA LIKE
Greetings from Dublin

Nice !!! I've posted before about old school 1st/2nd Gen Locos my favorite !!
I've been Railfanning since the mid 70s with my older Brother then grew up in the Boston area near the B&M tracks and have lived in Exeter, NH the last 26 yrs 70 ft from the old B&M mainline !!! So I've seen and heard all the Freights since then and moved here because it was close to the tracks. The Guilford era though not fun for many of the workers, the Railfans Loves the vast variety and liveries of 1st/2nd Gen Alcos/GE/EMD of the DH, B&M, MEC then Pan Am with their Slick Blue paint & White PAR lettering Geeps, SD40, SD40-2, one SD Snoot, SD45, SD45-2 all 3000 HP 16 cyl Roar past with the older GE Dash 8 reg cabs it was nice then CSX to over last year and it's sadly 95% GE Wide cab Computers !!! There are still about 4 PAR SD40-2 left and 12 or so C40-8/ B40-8 in Pan Am paint left going by and a few CSX SD40-2/ SD40-3 that go by !! Well I have my memories still of the good days 👍 I'm 64' now, Keep the 1st/2nd Gen Diesels coming !! 🙏
Love the SOUND!!!!👍👍👍
That brings me back to better days! Thanks for the memories.
Awesome sound and coal train Jack!!!
It does sound good!
Another great catch Jack, thanks for posting! Enjoying the " short reels".
Thanks again David.
Hi Jack, very nice and thank you for uploading the video. Cheers, Rich S.
Thanks Rich. Glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for watching bud.
Watching these beasts never gets old !
That is for sure GG1man. Thanks for watching.
Great video! Amazing sound! I liked when you zoomed in on the American flag!!
Those 100 ton cars look like they are loaded just a smidgen over 100 tons.
Back when big blue and king coal ruled the rails! Fantastic!
Looks like it was all NS by this time. Those are no longer CR units.
Full Conrail paint with a NS patch and renumber, just like it says in the video remarks. "NS ex-Conrail".@@Fyrfotog2
Few things sound better than a couple of hard working 645's!
383 stroker The slap on womens big behind And the macaroni sound when making love to your favorite woman in the world i know TMI 😂
amazing Nice Catch 👍
With the flag on one of the pushers. Nice final touch.
That was a nice touch. Great bunch of guys run on the MGA.
Now it’s 220 cars, DPU, and a lot less cool!
Thats for sure! It is like it was years ago.
This is a great video! As someone who lives relatively close to this trackage and documents the operations during this day and age it’s great to see old clips like this. Please if you have anymore do upload them would love to see them.
I have tons of stuff shot all over the MGA. Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed it.
Jack, just curious how you're converting from super8/Hi8 tapes to digital? Are you just playing the tape with the camcorder and using a capture card, or some other method? Great video. Thanks...
Most Digital8 camcorders have a FireWire connection that allows for a direct digital transfer to the computer, if it has a FireWire port. Many Digital8 and MiniDV camcorders also allow the playback of analog Video8/Hi8 tapes or the use of the A/V jacks as inputs to hook up another device (like a VHS VCR or game console) and output that to a computer over FireWire.
That is correct. The VHS tapes are a little more time consuming. @@SebisRandomTech
