      It's the "any horizontal surface" axiom. We've often talked about putting a hoist on our gaming table so that we could preserve the state of play at the end of the session and let others use the surface underneath to do their thing the rest of the week. But that's a lot more work than just taking a phone pic of the action and recreating it the next week.

    The table looks good. The video is tight. The curtain was a smart idea. The title isn't clickbait. AND you managed to slip in a topical reference to how big your extremities are. I applaud you.

    • @Immolate62
      @Immolate62 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I recommend against solid wood for any kind of large work table surface. Solid wood likes to move, dimensionally. Plywood, by virtue of it's alternating layered orientation, does not. A 2 inch slab (50mm) would be more stable, but even then you'd have to acclimate it to the room it's going to live in, then joint and plane it if it gets out of whack, then finish the whole thing well to avoid seasonal moisture variation. People do it, don't get me wrong, but unless you've got some woodworking skill and knowledge, it might be more trouble than it's worth. Maybe even if you do.

    Lol don't diss yourself. Wyrmwood is some of the most overpriced gaming stuff you can buy. They also don't make anything, they contract it out to an actual carpentry shop then just slap their logo on it. If you made the plans yourself you could probably get the same table made by a carpenter for half the price. Your table looks fantastic, great work.

    Using Pine (even furniture grade), is not the best option, as it is a soft wood. Hickory is my wood of choice: close in price to Oak; finer, smoother grain; takes any color stain you throw at it; harder, and stronger, than Oak! The Birch Plywood is an excellent choice: plywood will not warp; no need to glue 3-4 inch wide strips, flipped grain-wise, to avoid warpage -- then planed smooth, very labor intensive; Birch will accept any color stain. You could also use Birch Plywood on the edges, and incorporate the plywood layered seams into your edge design. Plywood edges would be more durable than Pine. I hope it lasts a long time for you, in spite of my comments. Nice, basic tabletop, inexpensive, and pretty quick to build. Cheers!

    On the next one, I recommend putting on gloss poly on the initial coats and then satin or whatever on the last coat. Otherwise, each subsequent coat of poly will add a degree of opaqueness that is cumulative with the prior coats. It turned out great though. On the trestle, it looked like the bottom shelf was unsupported. If so, you might want to put some 2x4 supports down there to keep it from buckling.
