I think that's a good way to do it - I'm not sure I'll ever find my 'perfect' sketchbook that will hold everything I want it to! For now I just use create in the sketchbook that works best in the medium I want to use that day too 😄
Just a side note: Royal Talens also has white paper versions (the cork ones). Thanks for sharing this video, I can't wait to see what else you are going to create in this sketchbook! :)

Really enjoyed this! For straight watercolor I really like the hahnemuhle sketchbooks. Even though the paper is not the typical gsm I go for, it takes a lot of water and handles watercolor beautifully.
It’s so cool seeing the way you create mixed media pieces, so many different supplies here and the end result looks so good 😄 I feel like I don’t know how to do landscape pieces, but you really inspire me to just go for it and play around! Love all the colors and textures, the misty effect you created between the trees looks so cool, I really love it! 😄🩷

Hey Katie, this was a helpful review, and your painting looks brilliant! Thank you. I’ve not heard of this brand before, my main sketchbook is the seawhite of brighton “all media acid free cartridge paper”. It’s 140gsm & 190 pages. I’ve used pretty much all media in it and everything I’ve tried has been good so far. It doesn’t like posca *if* you go back and forth a lot as it pills quite a lot.

@@KatieMoody no worries at all! Gem from @the colour cave on here sells them at a really affordable rate & it’s where I get all mine now. :) I’ve seen people use brush tipped acrylic markers that don’t seem to pill the paper so that might be an option at some point for me.
Ooooo so good! how the spread turned out! 👍 it is a shame that the paper couldn’t handle a lot of wet media tho, I was hopeful that maybe you’d found the perfect mixed media sketchbook for me lol I guess the search is still on! Really enjoyed the messy loose swatchy process it looked like fun and surprisingly turned out with a nice glow to it all…. Great! 👏

I really loved watching you create. I found this video as I was looking at the Pith sketchbooks and wanted to see some reviews. I do a bit of watercolour, and have found that 300 gsm cotton is the best. I love my Etchr sketchbook, but it is Not, so has some tooth. It's vegan, if that matters, and the quality is great. But definitely a bit pricy. I know you were disappointed with the paper buckling and seep through, but I was amazed at how much you put on. It has definately inspired me. I was looking at Pith from some ink sketching and wash.

The acrylic marker? you used at the base of the tree on the right is which one and what colour please? It looks like a burnt sienna but I’m not sure and I really like it!
Yes I love the way it lays so flat on the desk! Do you mean the brush pen I'm using a 15:25? If so it's a Faber Castell Albrecht Durer Watercolour Marker in Sanguine 188 😊
Hello Katie, It’s true that we’re always looking for the perfect sketchbook for mixed media! I just wanted to tell you that the Royal Talens sketchbook also comes in white paper! And for watercolor, the sketchbook I prefer at the moment is the Seawhite of Brighton. It is 140 gsm but it supports watercolor without deteriorating provided you do not use too much water and it even allows you to create small fusion effects. Personally I find it great and it is very white. Good evening and thank you ;)

I really enjoy these sketchbooks. Good for watercolors and ink sketches. They're a bit hard to import to the US right now, hopefully they get a good retailer eventually.
I’d suggest the Fabriano Vergatone sketchbook. I Love’em. Can use pretty much any medium. It does take gouache, watercolor & acryl paints. Oil sticks & oil pastels go on it as well. If using oil paint, Gessoing the paper would be a good idea, obviously. Pencils, as long as they’re on the softer side. The paper is 30% vergin & 70% virgin fiber. It can take a lot of water. Considering the paper is on the thinner side.

I have the other two sizes and was wondering about this one. I use the white paper Art Creations sketchbooks, widely available to UK and EU. You threw everything at this sketchbook and it held up. I will not use the ink or heavy water, but will still throw mediums at it. Keep creating 💙💜💛

I was always a big fan of Seawhite of Brighton and Moleskine sketchbooks, but my absolute favourites are now Pith (ive tried all sizes!) And Artway Studio❤️ (very cheap but seem to be slightly better paper than seawhite.) The talens sketchbooks are too cream and too thinner paper for me personally ❤xx
Haha I get that! When I saw them in an art shop I think it really helped to see them in person and feel the sizes, even if I then bought it online later!

I love how you layered so many different media on these pages! The buckling doesn’t bother me but I’m not as keen on how it handles the watercolours.

Thanks for this! I still haven’t found my ideal sketchbook so I’ve ended up with several on the go at once, for different media types.

I’m currently using a square Ohuhu mixed media sketchbook (21 x 22,1 cm) and really enjoy it. It takes watercolour quite well.

It's a synthetic mop brush! This is the size 5, by the brand Artway 😊
Hannemuler watercolor paper is my preference.
