You can hold priority when attacking with Vona if you want to activate to remove a blocker
I was really confused why he let the Gigantosarus block.
@@Tarrandus what's the difference in momir? It's not like the opponent is playing a combat trick after blocking with the Gigantosaurus? I could be missing something here of course
You get to kill the creature before they block allowing Vona to get in at their face. This way you get to gain 4 and kill their guy.
His sequencing there was painful
Forcing your opponent to attack in 1v1 is almost always beneficial because the only time your opponent does not attack is if it's bad.
I've played momir like 10 times this week and the strategy ive played is this: first three turns play islands, just in case you get a tempest djin, then from turn 4 onward prioritize mountains.
7-drop is INSANE. I normally curve out to 7, not to 9, and play a bit more aggresively. There are some mini combos in 7 drops ;)
Seth at 12:20 you can attack and then before blockers activate Vona's ability to kill the dino.
you have to hold full control i Arena to do that though, i kinda wish they had put in a special case for Vona to take priority before blockers if he's untapped because you can't really use the card properly at all without having to go to full control every combat step.

And it's really easy to press Ctrl+Shift, attack, activate, leave full control mode.

i like two drops just for the chance of hitting a druid of cowl or that kicker one. idk its a small chance but the games it happens its easy win
What are the odds that on the first game of all the possible 1 drops you both get novice knight? And both of you only played a single one drop?

Oh hey, I just did some of this tonight. I like the format without guaranteed Zacama much better, even though now we have Greatwurms. 10 does make a difference compared to 9. And that Angler Turtle is amazing. I got it and it was the reason I was able to win. It was basically a board wipe.

Momir is super fun but it feels really bad to go 0-2 due to pure RNG, especially when you're paying an entry fee for each run.
Yeah. I wish the entry free/prize support was a bit better (or that you could challenge people for free).
Yeah the "direct challenge" system as it is now is woefully disappointing.
Skipping 6 is a mistake. To many good flyers and a several bombs :) you dont play momir to be afraid of phages
high risk high rewards. You can get Multani that's like the biggest creature and Belzenlok that kills you

You explained your first loss to tendershoot but that was the unblockable game. And it makes sense that a more aggressive player should be able to win not just whoever wins the die roll/ decides it’s better to play as little as possible until you hit your 9 and 10 drops

Love the momir Seth. Playing strange online games is something I’d love to see some more of!
If I remember correctly, Momir doesn't actually favour the first to Greatwurm. Once both sides can achieve a Greatwurm, the games reaches a stalemate, as the first to swing loses. Thus, the person with the least amount of cards in their library loses, barring something on their battlefield like that turtle or a vigilance or flying granter that allows them to swing safely. Zacama doesn't actually matter to this board state, since unless you can get a Zacama activation and make a Wurm each turn, you're still locked by the tide of indestructible Wurms. You can break out of it if you have enough extra creatures to protect yourself for a few turns while you gamble in X=7 for the white dinosaur or other flyers to try to kill.
The fact that Arena Momir plays so differently because of the different creature pool makes me want to make a custom paper Momir cube
It's possible! Just make piles of creatures at each CMC and then shuffle up and put a random one into play for the proper CMC.
With the amount of ramp (starting with Skirk Prospector and Llanowar Elves) and card draw (including explore), I think, it is correct to curve out, because you should hit one of these by the time you get to 7/8.

I was going 5-1. My opponent was swinging for 7 in the air each turn. T6, I needed a flyer. I got Belzenok.
That first game hurt cause I played through three separate momir tournaments and only hit zacama on 9 twice out of like 15 games
There was game I had 3 molderhulks in a row pushing for Zacama. After getting Zacama I went for as many worms as the game would allow
The format's slightly better now that its not guaranteed that you'll hit a zacama, but personally im gonna leave this format on the shelf for a few years until there is more randomness at the higher CMC slots.

I had a match that got to 10 the other day and my opponent and I started just spamming the field with indestructible wurms. Good times.

That's a tough one. The odds on hitting Chupacabra or Hostage Taker are really low (maybe like 2%), but if that's your only out its probably correct.

1. There are no 11 Drops, 12 is Ghalta, strictly worse than 10-drop.
2. Only 10 drop is a 16/16 indestructible
3. First opponent should have started doing 10-drops and force you to do 10-drop too and stop you adding lands, if you didnt, they would probably win.
You should be prioritizing playing Zacama colors of lands, especially Mountains.
Every time I make a 9 I get mulderhulk and elemental.... you and first opponent are much better at getting zacamas,lol.

Yeah. Momir has enough randomness that pretty much anyone can win at any time.

The gold reward is lower than the 500g constructed event, but i think the justification is that you are guaranteed a random rare card reward. (even at 0 wins)
1drop players try to make ramp elf, if u go 2nd u basicly try this if u dont the other will get zacama first
I've been playing Momir just to pick up rares and mythics for a few hundred gold. I really suck at this format, lost like 8 or 9 games out of 12 last night (basically EVERY game my opponent hit Zetalpa on their first 8 drop and there was nothing I could do. The one time I actually got Zetalpa myself, my opponent immediately got Zacama on their next turn and shut me down. Out of all of those games I never got Zacama once). Since I have such bad luck with it, I'm basically just treating it as a Rare/Mythic lottery that costs 400G a spin. I've got 5 or 6 mythics so far but all have been bulk except a Bolas.
There's a lot of randomness. You can improve your odds, but I'm not sure it's possible to really be good at Momir.
Yeah, seems that way. I don't think I have the luck or Magic God's blessing required for this format! Keep getting janked out by opponent's insane aggro curve or them always getting Zeltapa or Zacama+Polyraptor combo while I get endless 7/5 hexproof guys.

Getting to eight, and staying there is a better idea. There are much better 8s than 9s.
You're driving me nuts with that lifelinker. Why not trigger it's ability _after_ attackers but before blockers? Then you get 4 life back each time.

It's more fun on MTGO where it pulls from way more sets. It's still random, but there's far fewer repeats than you see here and random creatures come up that no one remembers which keeps things interesting.
And on MTGO you can get Phage, which means you lose the game instantly :P

There is 0 strat to this format other than trying to get zacama or polyraptor first.
While I love your videos, it was a little disappointing to hear you disparage the way the third opponent chose to have fun and okay the game as "sub-optimal".
Particularly after you lost to his lucky pulls (which is the nature of the game in Momir), it came across quite like poor sportsmanship.
Thanks for the feedback. I wasn't trying to disparage the opponent, but I can see how it might have come across that way. I'll keep it in mind in the future.
