      Why to use Luma keyer instead just set luma i composite mode?

    Thanks for this video, it's very helpful. What if we want to retain the grey feathery edge of the ink drop, is there a way to do that? The luma key replace the black area completely. I saw some fire FX, they have a fire footage and a matte footage, so that they will put the fire footage on top after arranging the transition. I couldn't find the same thing with ink drop transition. Thank you.

    Hey Alex, you've outdone yourself yet again!
    I hate to ask you for even more... but I've tried searching everywhere else and can't find anything. If you wouldn't mind pointing me to something for this ANNOYING ISSUE?!
    I just reinstalled Windows and thus had to reinstall DVR 17. And now when I am playing back, if I move the mouse around, it will STOP playback as soon as I so much as hover over any other clip. I am in the habit of checking which B-roll I am looking for etc. whilst listening to playback but it's driving me nuts because of exactly what I said. I'm sure this is a matter of just turning something off, but I don't remember changing much when I first installed DVR so I'm not sure why it's the default now.
    Please and thank you, you're a legend! Lamont from Australia.

      @MrAlexTech  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Heyy!! Hmm that's a weird one, I'll have a check when I'm back home and see if can figure that one out. Im guessing it is an option somewhere 🙂👍

    Cool effects! Fading in a solid color underneath the smoke drop effect would have a been nice addition to clear up that lingering alpha in the middle of the frame. Watching this actually gave me a number of ideas, like adding a subtle slow zoom to that first dropping effect, for example. Stimulating content!.

    What's the procedure to save the ink transiton with luma Key and alpha composition? I would have a black background that slowly disappear to show the images below .

    this whole process of putting clips above each other to make a transition work
    is it possible to save that as a drag and drop ? if so pls tell me where i find a tutorial on this (couldn't find one myself)
    or if you can make one. thanks

    • @MrAlexTech
      @MrAlexTech  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey. Nah it can't really unfortunately. Unless you recreated it all within fusion which would be a bit more work.

    • @j1nroh3
      @j1nroh3 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MrAlexTech I only came as far as to figure out, that in fusion, you can mark both clips as a layer.
      one is layer0 the other is layer1, the other stuff i wasn't able to figure out yet.
      how the transition that i fixed was made thought i couldn't get behind

  • @Art-FX
    @Art-FX 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Cool tutorial as usual.
    But I have one question, is there any advantage in using Luma Keyer and Composite Mode: Alpha instead of Composite Mode: Lum?

    • @MrAlexTech
      @MrAlexTech  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey! Yeaaah the Luma Keyer and Alpha allow for basically any colour combo, while Lum relys on Black and White.
      Take my second example (with the pink ink), that wouldn't really work with LUM unless you first desaturated it etc.
      This method doesn't take much longer but really opens up the options, especially using free stock footage etc which isn't always the cleanest etc
