Edit: For those of you asking about the 14 day rule, this is my response: The reason you subtract 14 days is because 14 days is the average length of the luteal phase. Luteal phase is the number of days between your ovulation and next period, counting from the day after you ovulate (ovary release an egg), till you see your next period. However, luteal phase length can be 11 - 17 days before your next period. I have a video for women with varying cycle lengths, and the calculation explained in that video makes calculation easier, while taking into consideration the range of the luteal phase. Nice one doc, but since ovulation is not precise, i think you forgot to mention something, if ovulation occurs on the late dates of the +2, she is still not in her safe period afterwards for an average of two days, because the female egg is still viable 12-24hrs after ovulation. So i think fertile periods should also include like 2-3days after the +2 late ovulation dates, after which the eggs must have died off.

Please Dr. I'm having challenges in conceiving. I had a miscarriage at 3months 2023 after d birth of son who is 3yrs now. My july period was on 2nd and i saw it again on 29th July down to 1st of August. I've tried to calculate every time but it keeps failing me. Please help me
From your dates your cycle number should be 27days from 2nd to 28th which is 27days cycle, then your menses begins again on the 29 which will end on the 1st.with still a 27 days cycle. Then according to Doc, your fertility window should start 6th of August. So counting 27days from 29th +2 days or -2 days backwards +another 5 days still backwards should be 24(ovulation date) (+)25 and 26 are part of your fertility window, then - which is counting back wards is 24(-) 23 and 22(+5) 21,20,19,18,17 which automatically makes this days or dates your fertility window. @@JoyEyo-n2p Okay first things first I think you should watch the video again and follow closely. She gave instructions in the video as she was explaining and if you follow through with it and apply it to your period calendar you will get it.
@@JoyEyo-n2p Your cycle length is the first day you see your period in a month (for example the month is January) to the last day before the beginning of another period (which will be in February if your cycle length is 28 days and above)
So once you understand how to calculate your cycle length try to record it for 6 months so you can know precisely what your cycle length is.
This is the basic first before you can understand how to calculate your fertile days.
Please watch the video again and follow closely, you can rewind if you missed anything. Be patient I am sure you will get it.
Also feel free to refer back to the video if when you are trying to implement it you get lost.

This is the reason you subtract 14 from your cycle length to get the day you are ovulating. That is why the most likely day for a woman with 28 day cycle to ovulate is day 14. When you do a subtraction 28 - 14 = 14.

On the cycle length, I don't know whether this has changed, it used to be from the beginning of one menstrual cycle to the beginning of another and not a day prior to another. For instance, if a woman started her menses on 4/7/22, and saw another on 29/7/22, her menstrual cycle would be from 4/7/22 to 29/7/22 not from 4/7/22 to 28/7/22. This means that woman's menstrual cycle is 26 days but not 25 days.
I'm following up on this too.... I'm surprised to see her say it's a day prior.... We need more insight Doc

Thanks, I think how ever, that the '14'-thing is for those with a 28 day length cycle; day 14 being the middle. So for those with longer or shorter but regular (and normal ) cycles, the middle day of their particular length of their cycles could therefore be considered the probable day for ovulation. Then the other calculations could follow suit as Dr explained in the video.

The 14th day ovulation rule is not because it is in the middle of 28 days, its because you subtract 14 days (which is the luteal phase) from it.
