A business I worked for years ago was responsible for building displays and shelving (wood/metal) we had a mixed group of tools to work with, one of wich was a Ryobi impact driver . That thing was an absolute tank!! We beat the heck out of that thing daily and it over delivered every time. I realize Ryobi doesn’t get much respect in the tool game, but wanted to give an honest review
This helped me realize I was about to buy the wrong tool. I'm a first time DIY-er. Have to do some work around my folks house, and was about to buy an impact wrench. I already bought the drill, but while at the store wasn't sure if I wanted an impact wrench or impact driver. I could see the wrench was bigger, and my first instinct was to get that. Then I figured there's a reason for 2 different tools, so I came back and watched some vids on the differences. I need an impact driver. Thanks
Okay, this was the coolest tool review I've ever seen. Teardown was awesome. Only thing that would've been better is if you demonstrated the power difference of the different "hammer" weight between the driver and wrenches. Thanks for helping me get it.
Upgraded from an older 18v kit. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxW1vOBRCMrgTCDEijzpVzDWsgI-Jm2iQv I independently chose the drill and impact tool, before I came across the kit.I like the 3 speed impact gun. It seems more powerful than my older one, and it can be set to be really gentle. The drill is more appropriately sized for my use. I used to have a hammer drill, but I did not like that it was so big and it was not a great hammer drill. I rather have a smaller drill like this, and then get a corded hammer drill for the odd case I need that.

Honestly it depends on brand and model.... When you get into the Mac and DeWalt 1/4 and 3/8 impacts (not the mid torques) they share many parts, the anvil/hammer being the main difference. The DCF/MCF 787, 887, 890, and 891 are a few of them. Once you get into the mid and high torque models there's a lot more differences.

I use the m12 stubby as both. Locking 1/4 hex bit adapter for screws and the 3/8 anvil for nuts and bolts and even lag bolts. Don’t have to carry two tools. Is it faster at driving screws than the m12 impact driver. No but it is more than adequate.

Great take apart video! Fun to see what's inside without being curious enough to take my own stuff apart. LOL I'll be using an impact 50/50 on lugs and driving screws/nuts so I'm going to get the new Milwaukee mid-torque and a 1/2" to hex adapter. Speed 1 will work fine on screws/nuts but then I'll have the power for lugs and other large bolts when I need it. Best of both worlds...I hope...
Pretty much. I do that with a dewalt mid torque. It stays in the truck for lug nuts but also with a 1/4 adapter it can do other tasks if needed. Works pretty well for the most part.

Should these ever be taken apart for cleaning or re-greasing under regular usage?
Whats regular use? Around the house and occasional heavier work, Nope. Unless your constantly driving large bolts into wood and keeping the tool hot all day, you wont leak out grease for a long time or really ever before everything else wares out on it.
I took apart a 40 year old stanley cordless drill that looked like it was used a lot but with care. Plastic worn very smooth from the hand. And it was still greased up, maybe not a lot but enough.
It would be great if Dewalt offered a 3/8" impact wrench with various speed; i would get one. Heck, it would be great if all brands offered more impact wrenches with various speeds.
Which brand went back together smoother or a better fit?
I think they all come apart about the same. Just take some precautions when taking them apart and going back together. Nothing crazy difficult. Thanks for watching.

Can I use The Dewalt impact driver to change my car’s wheel lug nut thank you
You "CAN", but that's not something that I'd recommend. While it should have the power to remove the lug nuts IF the wheels were put on with proper specs and you don't have any corrosion; If a tire shop has put them on with their impact wrenches, then they're probably over-tightened and your impact driver can't remove them. Wheels are definitely a job for an impact wrench, not an impact driver. Thanks for watching.

Impact driver: Hex driver, smaller anvil, thus less torque but more speed
Impact wrench: 1/2 socket, bigger anvil, thus more torque/nut busting force but slower

Probably the first time that Ridgid could say that they knocked Dewalt and Milwaukee to pieces.
So my 1/4 Mil Impact Driver is more powerful than my 1/4 Mil Impact Wrench, but I prefer the Impact Wrench for what I'm doing.

@@Shoptoolreviews Thanks for the reply. I now have a new subscription. It is nice to find a channel that does such good in depth comparisons of tools. I had a vague understanding of the difference between a driver and a wrench but your video made those differences crystal clear. A bigger hammer/anvil will have much more momentum and therefore more driving capability. Even though many drivers and wrenches have similar torque ratings the larger mass of the hammer in the wrench will translate to more effective torque at the fastener. Your video made that abundantly clear. Thank you again.

This test is a bit misleading, compare close to each drivers 3/8 to impact driver of about same torque, I bet they are the same inside with different tips. I am sure the new HP line of Ryobi looks identical on the outside and are the same inside except the the tip.

@@Shoptoolreviews no I mean the brake. When you let go of the trigger the drill stops. Maybe I'm the only one who can react fast enough to let go of the trigger when the drill is at speed so the screw doesn't go any deeper?
