Ice lance is actually okay when you have a few water elementals and/or snow chuggers. Or frost bolts.. I wouldn't have dismissed it so quickly.

I pick very similar cards to what you choose in arena, and still end up having a 4 or 3 win. what is it that I'm doing wrong?

Shielded minibot is actually OP, even for a mage in a "slow meta" (arena), it's a pain.
This card by itself allowed constructed eboladin to exist.
But it's also because there is too much good 2mana 3/2 cards, compared to the 2/3s.
It's almost as if shielded minibot is a 4/4 for 2 mana.

Care to elaborate on the first pick of sunwalker over knife juggler?
Is sunwalker really that much more valued in mage over lets say paladin, where I'd pick the knife there juggler 100%?

Sunwalker is one of the tier 1 cards in arena in any class. You need a very good reason not to choose it.
Its just that it in itself I have experienced to be really underwhelming. the shield usually gets pinged making it work like a 6 mana 4/6 taunt most of the time for me.
It opens up so little synergy potential aswell. KJ I find in itself is good but also bumps up the potential value of future cards like haunted creeper/murlock tidehunter/etc. But works with just any minion.
I think you need to be pretty ahead already to have good value from a sunwalker, while KJ might prevent loss of board control.
Its not like I totally suck at arena while saying this either. My win average hovers around 6/7 ish.
Could you elaborate why its a "tier 1 card" since understanding it might up my win rate more.

+rayoku2 how does my play lose tempo? prevents mechwarper synergy which although isn't guaranteed, should still be considered. plays around avenge. opponent as a paladin does not have the ability to ping your 2/1. still agree with trump's play?
It keeps the chugga chugga safe from guys as well, which means guaranteed tinkertown tech synergy. Your play is decent but thinking about it, placing the 3/2 is a gamble that benefits more later.

I'm so awful at arena I've done 5 or 6 arena runs and I can't win more than 4 games and a majority of them I can barely scrap one win. I hate the fact that most times it comes down to one play that'll make or break the rest of the game. And I have been watching trump and I construct decks in a similar fashion it's become so discouraging I'm just thinking about only watching cuz this is the only game mode I'm into

I had the exact same problem as you. I thought I made almost the exact same decisions as Trump, but as I plyed more Arena's, I got better and better. I guess that it really is the small things that can greatly improve your win-rate. So my advice: don't give up, keep on trying and you'll see your win-rate climb greatly.
