The Best And Most Timeless Japanese Mid-Size Automatic Dive Watch Under $220: SEIKO Prospex SKX013

  • In this video I will do an in-depth review of the SEIKO SKX013K2.
    In the video I refer to the metal bracelet having solid end links. This is incorrect. Bracelet has hollow end links. Also, the fact that the watch does not have a sapphire crystal is not necessarily a bad thing. Seiko’s hardlex crystal can take a tougher beating than sapphire. So for a toolwatch, hardlex is not a bad choice. It will attract scratches however.

    Even though the 7S26 movement doesn't have a hacking function, there's a trick to do it: you can easily stop the second hand by appllying a slight pressure (counter clock-wise) on the crown while it's on the 2nd position. And regarding the lack of manual winding, that function is not really necessary on this watch because shaking it for only 3 seconds will make the movement to run smoothly.

      I hear some people damaged their watches by doing this.

    Just got this handsome guy today. I really really like it to the moon ans back. It's my most expensive watch I bought so far. I'm not into super expensive watches. But by far, this is the one I invested and I'm really happy with owning this.

      Hi Alvin, nice to hear that. Congratulations with your purchase! The Seiko SKX007/SKX013 was the first watch that I bought before I started this channel. Have a look at my other videos to find plenty of affordable watches 😁

      Alvin, I hope you're still enjoying the watch, mate. I've had mine for a few years. It sits in a collection with a Rolex, a couple Hamiltons, a few 6R15 Seikos, a Glycine airman and a vintage Certina. I've worn it snorkeling in Oman, cave diving in Nepal, camping all over and it's never let me down. I love it more and more the longer I own it. I hope you're having the same experience. Wear it in good health!
      Cheers

    Thanks for the review, it makes sense to get a seiko when you see brands like daniel wellington trying to market budget fashion dress watches at the same price. They are so versatile when you change the strap, have a resale value, and are so reliable. I found one for 190usd and its an absolute steal.

    • @GadgetsforGentlemen
      @GadgetsforGentlemen  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I totally agree. Stay tuned. I will upload a new video in which I will cover several versatile dive watches, including the Seiko SKX009.
      Don’t get me wrong. I like the aesthetics of the Daniel Wellington, but you are far better of with for example the Tissot Everyday. Dive watches look great and are very practical with their robust movements, strap options legibility and water resistance 😁

    Great review, I have the same watch, which I have worn daily for 2 years, it keeps good time. They are a lot more expensive watch to buy now.

    • @GadgetsforGentlemen
      @GadgetsforGentlemen  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you. Price increased a lot. Such a shame for what was a super exciting entry level diver. These days I don’t think it’s worth the price if you compare it to the new Citizen NY0040 (with hacking movement) or Orient Ray 2.

  • @nojburns

    Great video. I see it's 2 years old but still relevant. This was one of the videos that persuaded me to get the 013 and I love it. I put it on a Strapcode jubilee and it's gotten a lot of time on the wrist. Amazing that such a heavy combination can be so comfortable.
    Also, regarding the bezel timing. Another way to time things is to subtract from 60 and put that number at the minute hand. So say you want to count down 35 minutes. 60-35 = 25. Put 25 at the current minute hand mark and when the minute hand eventually meets the bezel arrow, you'll have timed 35 minutes. This way the bezel arrow is the finish line, not the starting one. Pretty easy.
    Thanks for the great video. Enjoy

      Thanks Jonathan. This means a lot to me. I do flip watches. The 013 is still in the collection though. Mostly on the original jubilee. Strapcode makes amazing bracelets. I own two Strapcode oysters for my Seiko SARB033 and Seiko SARB017.

    Is yours misaligned at 12, mine is at 6 and also has a bezel misalignment. That is a major con for me. There are so many misaligned examples.
    Still a fantastic watch.

    Hardlex is actually harder to break then a saphire (it's less rigid) and on a sports watch I'd rather have a more durable glass.

    • @GadgetsforGentlemen
      @GadgetsforGentlemen  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are very right Kornel Odri.
      Seiko Hardlex probably will survive a direct hit / bang / impact while sapphire is more likely to break. However sapphire is much more scratch resistant than hardlex.

  • @tcc300892
    @tcc300892 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Pretty sure this isn't part of the Prospex range. As far as I'm aware that range was introduced more recently.

    • @GadgetsforGentlemen
      @GadgetsforGentlemen  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure about it either. If it was released today it would properly be part of the Prospex line-up. Hence I consider it a Prospex family watch 😉

    My Friend you are very slow in your assessment, though it is comprehensive. However; Lack of Handwinding, Hacking and Hardlex Crystal are majour drawbacks. Seiko should add the three Missing options with a Push Down Crown as well.
