  • Whether you have recently purchased the software emulation of the Moog Taurus from Cherry Audio (The LowDown) or you purchased the Hardware Emulation from Behringer (Toro) you may be wondering which was the better option. Would software be better - or as good? Could you save a bunch of money and get the same thing or close enough? Join me in this video to see what the audio differences are between these two awesome recreations!

    Ok so apparently TH-cam is taking a look at why my Info cards are not working... In the mean time you can download this patch here for TORO or Lowdown:

    Hey Cap. I'm a new subscriber as of one of your last videos. I would like to thank you for your honest videos. On this video, I have to say that the software version sounds wet to me like as to the Toro hardware sounds dry. Mind you, I watched the video on a phone and still heard the difference. I personally am a hardware person. Thanks more to your previous video on the Toro, I will be purchasing it soon to join my other Behringer synths.

      Hey there @georgegeez8708 thank you very much for the comment. I really appreciate it. I’m glad you like the videos! I have to say I agree with you. I don’t know where the effect is coming from but it does sound like there’s a chorus on it or something or some kind of a just a pinch of reverb. I looked everywhere to see if there was somewhere where I could shut it off and get it as dry as possible because I wanted them to be on the same level, but that was his dry as I could get it. I was thinking to myself man if I just threw a little bit of delay or may be reverberate something on this hardware. It would really make it pop. But I was trying to go for as dry as possible. But good ear There is definitely a pinch of effects on that since unfortunately I can’t strip it out.

    Another free VST ( from 2005 or 07 ) is the smarelectronix Taurus. I comared both and ended up ditching the lowdown as the other one sounded more natural to the original T1 than the Lowdown. I found the lowdown too colored in the mid frequencies. The smart is also better when you try to send CC commands. Perfect for a live application with PK5 + FC50 program changer.

      Hey there @sylvainmarcoux4967. - thanks for the feedback! Is that VST 3? I’m kind of guessing it’s VST to based on how old it is… I’m only asking because a lot of the DAWS that I use today don’t work with VST 2. I’ll take a look. If I make a video would you mind if I mentioned your name? Just as that you pointed it out to me. Let me know! Also, don’t forget to sub I’d appreciate it. Have a great day. look forward to hearing from you in future videos!

    My Behringer Monopoly kinda sounds off key until it's been on for about 5 minutes. I turn it on and the sound I had on it when turning it off the day before will not be the same if I tern it on now.

      Ive noticed that on a few analogue synths - I believe that’s normal. I’m pretty sure they do need to “warm up” my Odyssey and Model D do that as well. Pretty sure a that’s normal though… Analog sounds so good but is definitely quirky. There’s one are where software and digital exceed - but funny enough I have seen software incorporate “drift” to ore closely emulate analog.

      @@Cap10NRGMusic Yes true, I know drifts a thing just Monopoly is My only Analog synth.

      Have you checked this out? music.fullbucket.de/monofury.html - this guy makes great synths and asks only for donations. Very good emulation of the Korg monopoly - and essentially free or whatever you can pay. I support this guys work and I do suggest others do too but if folks can’t - you can still use his synths.

    I think the sound of the Toro or the Moog, or cherry audio can easily be replaced in Reason.

      That’s another option! I was actually thinking about building a regular full on combinator with the devices that would make the sounds of this device using only reason included devices. It would take a little bit of tweaking, but I’m pretty sure it could be done. Honestly, that’s one of the things about reason that I love is the ability to emulate other things with it. I have made so many devices and sounds using just the devices within reason. Sometimes I wonder if you really need anything else… It’s a little crazy, and even though I know it’s behind as far as some of the capabilities of other DAW’s, I just don’t see the way it is as a limitation in someways. I almost think of it like a piece of hardware running within my computer that’s just how I’ve always treated it.

    I think you need to tune the behringer, including both oscillators before doing the comparison. It sounds out of tune and the oscillators are beating against each other.

    • @Cap10NRGMusic
      @Cap10NRGMusic  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, it was tuned technically however, as you turn the pitch and turn the isolators changing the blend the tuning changes on each oscillator, which is what makes them do that

    • @dodgingrain3695
      @dodgingrain3695 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Cap10NRGMusic Ah, I think a tighter tuning is necessary for a good comparison. The behringer seems way off both in pitch and between the oscillators and the cherry is too tight and sounds fake.
