Having the opportunity and availability to try different homes to live in is great. Tiny living may not be for everyone, but I like how it allows family to spend time together and not focus on things. Choosing to live a less expensive lifestyle allows family and single people to focus on helping others and be creative with ideas that help the family and others because the focus is living and not things. I am not saying people should not have things, but I am saying things should not dominant how you want to live your life.
For a tub just get cheap a plastic storage bin and when baby wants to play in the bath you have it and when you don't need it just take it out of the shower enclosure.
It would be fairly easy to run ropes between the side of the stairs and the ceiling to act as a railing/barrier for the child. You could even remove it after the kids are old enough to not need it.
Totally!! They have a good 10 years before they need to worry about an upgrade. In 5 years, their son will be loving that loft. Within the next five years after that THEN they can think of an upgrade if they want but it's not a big deal now, they have time.
There are collapsible bin/tubs that full time rver's with their little ones, place it in shower floor for bath time then fold it up and tuck out of your way. Might help you!
For bath time, the Rubbermaid storage bin or RV tubs are great ideas because they can be used outside as a kiddy pool as well as in your shower compartment. Plus you can store bathing toys in them when you are done. But the real answer for showering with a toddler is to change from a fixed shower head to a shower head on a flexible hose. That way you can bring the shower head to his level. Also get one that has a thumb switch to temporarily turn the water on and off. You want a shower head that you can easily control with one hand and keep your other hand on the baby. I never had a toddler, but having a shower head on a hose is a must for washing dogs... Take your hand off and they are out the door! Thanks for the glimpse into your lives. xoxo
What a cute toddler! Just be careful. There is nothing stopping a child from toppling over the loft's tiny rail, and kids love to climb. Toddlers tip over easily due to being top heavy/large head. But excellent loft window (the one near the stairs) bcuz it's big enough to escape through in an emergency.

I live up in BC on Vancouver Island where the house prices are not quite at the level of Vancouver and the Bay area, but they are getting that way. It won't be long. I have a few questions that I hope you folks are able to take the time to answer. I love your TH. It's exactly the style I am looking for. You got my vote. First question: you say your TH is 30 feet long. Is that the trailer length, or the length with the bumpouts? I notice that you have a double axle trailer. I was under the impression that 30 feet would require a triple axle, or did you just get bigger axles? I am considering 28 feet. I believe that can be a double axle but I'm concerned about weight. I'm just one person so I figure 28 will be plenty of space. So info about your trailer base would be great. Second question: You said shiplap for the interior. Did you get recycled shiplap? Was weight a consideration? Are you happy with that choice? Did you think of anything else for the interior? Third question: How are you liking the washer/dryer combo. In Europe these are the norm, but man, are they expensive in North America, and I've heard they aren't terribly efficient. Fourth question: What are you doing for hot water? Fifth question: weight. what does your trailer weigh? And last question (although I could probably come up with 20 or 30 more), what would you do differently, if anything. I know you said a railing but that's a minor thing. What about major things?

a composting toilet avoids sewage, tiny houses have RV hook ups for power, water usually comes from the main house thru a food graded hose (some people have on board tanks too), grey water from shower, washer & sink can be collected in a tank or run to a septic system. There is websites out there for like minded people to find parking, also craiglist and Facebook groups or you could put up an ad or flyer. I'm from Canada, so most don't apply, but you should able to find a nice spot depending on where you are. Rural is usually easier compared to urban settings.
When I was a born my family was traveling a lot with my brother for motor cross. So that meant no tub because we traveled in a motor home. My moms solution was a storage tote! She would use it like a tub and I believe the baby bath seats will fit in most storage totes. I know it sounds crazy but you got to do what you got to do!
How heavy can a tiny house be on the road in USA and still legal to pull with a car like this? Here in Norway we have to keep them below 3500 kg / 7716 lbs...

Thank you!! We use a rental truck when we need to move one because we don't own a truck. We might one day, but didn't let that stop us from going tiny. There's always a way to make it happen! We lived in our first spot for a year, and recently had to re-locate. It's definitely not easy finding a long term spot, and we hope to own land one day. One step at a time :-)
I hope you don't mind me asking, but do you move frequently because of zoning ordinances or out of personal choice? Are there any city/town obstructions to living in your small space or know of any examples? I have been reading up on obstacles for going tiny and zoning ordinances came up. Thank you!

This is definitely a cool way to live with small kids, but honestly if you have two I can't imagine this working for the whole family when they become teenagers.
Emily Liz I think at that point you could get a bigger tiny house or get a house. Tiny houses cut out the mortgage and cut back on expenses. They usually only take 2 or 3 years to pay off. A tiny house could be used as a stepping stone to stay out of dept and save for a house with a big down payment.
63K .... just too much for a tiny house. There are many many homes all over the US that cost the same, that are bigger, with back and front yards, etc. "Tiny houses" are too costly now .... the concept of tiny & lower costs seems to be gone.
Maybe in the US, but that's pretty good in other places. A 60k tiny home in NZ would be well worth it! Out home deposits need to be about 100K so 60k is actually affordable! It's just finding the space to park
So true, but house prices are rising. My husband amd I have been looking for a house and to get one that doesn't need a lot of TLC is closer to $200,000. In my mind a tiny house is a new fully updated house for $70,000 and I get what I want and what is functional for me. Cutting out the extras of what the world tells you need is also financially sparing and mentally. Just a thought...
Usually when you buy/make a tiny house you don't do it as an investment to sell for more later on like a normal house. You can expect that it will depreciate in cost over time.

I just don't understand tiny houses. They seem like you're building in the wrong direction. What happens when you have another child? What about when he's a teenager? Even when he's school age, he can't have sleep overs.

Ropes stretch and a kid could pop right through. Maybe cables would be safer.
Remember every1 kids don't care about square footage. They care that they have a parent/s or guardians who take care of them and that's it.
