  • Anita O'Day performs with John Dankworth and his orchestra on a live British TV show in 1964. Sorry, I don't have the video portion, just this audio line recording. Songs: I Get A Kick Out Of You, You Turned The Tables On Me, Tea For Two, and Four Brothers.

Brilliant stuff...I need refreshers like this, I forget just what an amazing sense of time she always had, and that insouciance!

She must have had some wicked interesting stories.
Me and my little sister were lucky enough to met her backstage in 1987 at the famous Blue Note in New York City.
I had all those Krupa Big Band recordings my Dad turned me on to, from about 1936 through the Forties, that's how I got hip to Anita O'Day and Big Band in general.
A lot of people don't know this but, Krupa, re-recorded all those big hits with the same line up for Hi-Fidelity in 1959, it later came out on CD, and every track is a winner.

Are you perhaps related to Percussionist Extraordinaire John Poole?
John Poole (RIP) was fantastic, and never failed to impress.

@@Johnnycdrums There's another drummer by the name of 'Poole'. Check the Emmet Cohen Trio Sessions, feat. the 28 y.o. Veronica Swift. No-one strikes Anita O'Day, but Miss V. comes close, In vocal abilities, pronunciation, intonation, phrasing technique & presence, with a tremendous knowledge of the old school repertoire. Strongly recommanded. Just wondering if those two drummer guys are related, indeed.

@@gabchaim8232; Just quickly checked around, this Veronica does a nice rendition of 'Four".
I don't think the drummer is related, pretty sure of it, unless he's a Grandson.
There's a lot of Poole's around, I had a trumpet man named Poole, and I know for a fact he's not related to either man, and I probably wouldn't have asked the question out of the blue to begin with, because they are everywhere.

Thank you very very much , Buzz for Anita! By the way - if you managed to find recording of a live (not taped) show from 64, maybe you could find by your channels Marlene Dietrich live on 30th May 1965 on ITV (if im correct) in Britain - it was a show "Stars shine for Jack" in the memory of Jack Hylton transmitted live from Drury Lane theatre Royal in London , she sang among other artists, would be great if it will be possible to find it
