The Moody Blues are a band of poets, primarily, who also happen to know how to compose and play music as well. So I think it is important to realize that the words are the main thing, and the music is there to give the poetry a fine skeleton upon which to drape the skin and hang the organs, and mellotrons, in this case. Then, beyond the poetry, it is the message that they are conveying with the poetry that is to be focused upon, for a depth of understanding this band requires, being sober gentlemen all.
Thanks for this gift. Blues Jays is equally beautiful, and essential. John and Justin. (Moody) Blue Js. Get it???

No mellotrons were harmed in the recording of this record. Mike Pinder had gravitated to the much more reliable Chamberlain.

I just want to say how grateful I am. You have taken the time to play their music. As a fan of The Moody Blues for well over 50 years somebody else has now learned the joy of the sound they make.

There were four vocalists in this group, which permitted at any one time a lead and a three part harmony backing.

Not in the same league as Seventh Sojourn. Too much orchestration and mushy songs. No Mike or Ray. I do like This Morning and Saved by the Music and one other song.

another great album. love the animals made out of the rock formations on the album cover. the full version of Isnt Life Strange will be my funeral song. only 8 more studio albums to go and atleast a dozen plus solo works.

Look again! The landscape is a piece of weathered wood. Perhaps driftwood on the shore.

That's Justin Hayward overdubbing himself to harmonize on New Horizons. One of my favorites.

At this point despite the years of success and successful albums they opted to record this album in Mike Pinder's newly renovated garage studio despite the fact they could've afforded to record anywhere they wanted.
Also with Seventh Sojourn the Mellotron was pushed aside for a new, similar, tape based instrument the Chamberlain. It had more refined string and brass sounds. It was also louder, recorded better and had a better overall sound quality for it's purposes. A keen ear will soon recognize the sonic differences between the Chamberlain compared to the Mellotron on the prior albums.

I forgot how rich & beautiful this album was. Man it’s music like this when I miss my Quad system. New Horizons is the epitome of just floating along in a glider or even a blimp.

And unfortunately that isn't Graham edge on the drums they brought a session drummer in for this album
