- Look at this HUGE agate!
An unusually warm winter means Kate and Jim can hit the Yellowstone River to explore a new rockhounding spot in search of agates, petrified wood, jasper, and any other rocky treasures they can spot. It's a sunny beach adventure - even if it IS 41 degrees! A rock hunt is always fun - but this one turned out to be very special indeed, with Kate stumbling upon a chunky 4.5-pound agate with banding and dendrites. It's a beautiful day rock hunting on the river - come along!

Old disabled house bound dusty rusty rockhound here: Looks like such a beautiful cold, crisp day. So many great finds!
Hi, Kelly! You aren't SO dusty, because you are enjoying things! :)
So neat. Am I the only one to see all kinds of 'faces' in the stone. Fascinating... makes the tales of gnomes and goblins that come out at night, then change back to rock in the daylight seem plausible. Happy hunting.
Great team work , Loved the excitement in your voice with each super find . Yes get as many as you can to get us through the winter season !!! You two are great . Love the great finds and be safe this winter . 🧡💛💚💙💜💨❄☃🌟
Thanks so much! It made me smile that I laughed so much when I found the big agate - clearly I was super excited. :D
Cold...brrr...but no snow means rocks are easier to find. Thanks for braving the cold Katy, Mr. Did and Kava!
Awesome rocks as always! I'm always inspired by the diff. patterns and colors of there... thanks for taking us along!
I think you and Jim have outdone yourself this trip. Lots of beautiful rocks. Thanks for sharing.
I think that big chunka agate is the best bet for iris agate! What a great hunt i can't wait to see the slabs from this trip!!
Oh such pretty & cool looking rocks! Shapes, colors are beautiful!❤
They are! The jaspers blow my tiny mind. :)
I bet you're thankful that nature is holding off on the Montana cold winter so far ..
Beautiful new hounding area and can't believe the petwood you were finding!
Awesome video my friend, thanks for sharing....
PS: Score on that beautiful huge agate! 👌😎
Marvelous finds
Thanks!
That was so fun. Some beautiful finds.❤
That big one was loaded with dendrites and that beautiful banding! So nice!
Yep, it's a good one!
I love petrified wood most of all. To think unlike most of the rocks it was actually alive at some point. Beautiful finds.
Always a good time watching you and Jim find out of this world rocks!
Thanks! :D
Beautiful hunt. I hope the snow stays away for a bit. Thanks!
Those are all some amazing finds! But you know me, the stromatolite was my favorite and the agatized coral thing you found. And the huge jasper with all the colors in it was amazing! And that jasper that him found, looked like a fossilized steak sandwich! And your chunky monkey agate is sooo beautiful! And huge! That banded chert is lovely too! And I'm definitely going to check out your Etsy! Thanks Kate and Jim! Happy Holidays you two!
Lisa, you are so awesome! :)
Beautiful rocks as always. You should have collect the cow jaw and send to me. Hehe. The suiseki idea would be great to do. I need one of those buckets on wheels that Jim pulls around.
That is a nice agate!
I agree!
It helps when you have the Eye for the prize. You definitely have it. I love the Bucket on wheels. looks like it would hook up to a bicycle. IDK that does not look like the original function but it sure is cool.
Suas rochas são incríveis.
Obrigado, Ale. :)
woo bogey agate❤
I'm planning a vacation next year the Yellowstone river to hopefully find some amazing agates ang pet wood, thanks katydid, Theo kellison and Montana rock mom great videos from you guys!!!
My wife is German and when you showed the jasper at 14:10, we both said, Shinken Jasper! - it looks exactly like a chunk of whole Schinken (ham with fat caps). We'd love to buy it!
I'm sorry, I don't know where it is, otherwise I'd be happy to share. :)
GORGEOUS finds!!!!
Heck ya i love that big agate you found but i do love jasper from the yellow stone
Very fun day! I'm always amazed at your beautiful agatized petrified wood! It must be so exciting to try a new spot! That agate Jim found was extra superb and the big one you found was a perfect end of season agate! I made a video today ( the 7th of December) and didn't discover much in the way of agates! But witnessed some crazy mother nature!
Thank you ❤❤❤
❤❤❤😊 thanks
Thanks for watching!
Nice.
Thanks!
Sigh, it's raining here in New Zealand so not sure if I enjoyed the stones or the sunshine better - gotta love family!
It is really unusual to have weather like this is Montana - but the sun makes a huge difference!
Эх, полазить бы там хоть раз, есть красивые камни, даже завидую. Больше всего понравился камень с 6 минуты
Спасибо! Красивые скалы есть повсюду. Я рад, что могу поделиться этим с вами.
Did that piece of petrified wood have worm holes in it or were the holes made in the rock after it was fossilised ? Love fossilised wood that knot was so cute 🥰 also love the glowing agates what a lovely way to end the weekend
I'm not sure, Fiona. The one Jim found definiitely had a knothole... but wormholes do happen!
I AM SO JEALOUS !! I WANT TO BE ABLE TO HUNT IN MONTANA
I’m going to make it there one day! 😊
I hope you do!
So amazing 16:23
I agree!
Giant agates are cool I am lucky to get a one pound agate.
To be fair, Montana agates tend to be much bigger.
@@KatyDidRocks Yes they are😁
!!! 😃
Any chance you are going to do a collection vid???
Ok - how heavy does the backpack get?
Out of curiosity, what qualities make a jasper gemmy?
Eh, just kinda clear and silicated... there isn't an official definition. :D
I recently found a 33 pound petrified log the other day while walking the dog. I'd seen it a million times before but never close enough to realize it wasn't just a regular log. I was wondering what colors might be inside and if the outside indicates them?
Wow, amazing! The colors really depend on where you are, as they vary a lot by region.
Rock hounding in December? Is it that popular there? I wait till summer.
It is really unusual to have no snow on the ground this time of year - we take advantage when we can!
Will you continue to make videos over winter?
Hi! I am lucky enough to have lapidary equipment - so there will be videos, rain or snow or shine or ice. :D
Parece fossil.la.segunda piedra
Fossil de madera
What do you mean when you say you are going to slab a rock?
Cut it! The cut pieces are referred to as slabs.
Wow Katie 3 good size of rocks 🪨 may you need to get 3 to 4 more good size rocks 🪨 🎸 and then you get out of the cold and fire 🔥 up your rock 🪨 saw and just be amazed at yourself with these cool rocks for sure.
I'm working on it!
Wow Katie you found a rock bucket 🪣 I'm so happy for you and Jim now you don't need to Struggle with your payload any more.
Thanks, Ray!
