    I have a p4 and I don’t have that issue with the opening of implements while opening the pliers I had it since it came out online and love it!

      titotorres100 that’s great man. I can’t argue with that just giving my humble opinion. Im glad you like it

      I bought a P4, and the first thing I noticed was the tools popping out of the handles simply from locking the pliers open. And it wasn't just a fluke. It happened every single time. I consider this a significant defect and safety issue and returned the piece of crap less than 10-minutes after buying it. I think it's a serious enough problem that Leatherman should issue a recall.

    • @Durwood71
      @Durwood71 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Harry Daniels You're one of the lucky ones. It's a very common problem with this line of tools.

  • @BigBellyEd

    So on Point!
    When in search for tools done right, you always find the Spirit, Wave, charge.
    And the offered tools @ light weight...it will always be the Victorinox Spirit.
    My believe in Leatherman is still great so I expected a improved p4/ Wave mix.

    • @ordinaryaverageguy3233

      Adventure Student I am confident they will fix the problems and blow us away with something. As for tools done right couldn’t agree more.

    • @BigBellyEd
      @BigBellyEd 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ordinary Average Guy The file of the P4 is just a joke...Leatherman already had the best file of all multitools.
      Also at the same weight, all P4 tools are shorter than the Wave tools (Knife,Saw,...)
      So there Must be an improvement, something aimed at professionals.

    • @ordinaryaverageguy3233
      @ordinaryaverageguy3233  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Adventure Student yeah brother I agree. I think they were trying so hard to come out with something new they forgot what made their tools great.

  • @walley2637
    @walley2637 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    i agree with everything you said here. I too wonder why leatherman doesnt put a bit driver on every multitool, and a replaceable file/saw socket as well. to be honest, if they made a tool that had Surge pliers head, a combination blade, large proper awl, full sized scissors, 2 bit drivers (1 stubby 1 extended) and 2 saw sockets so i can have both saw and file or 2 different blades at the same time... now THAT would be a top seller in my world. save the magnets for fridge art and grinder lids. they will only attract filings and dirt on a tool. and everytime another tradesman sees me pull out my surge and use the screwdriver bits or saw, they are impressed. and it never lets me down. if they drop it because carrying the bits makes it too inconvenient for frail people to carry the weight of these tools.. maybe they should be making something besides TOOLS. I carry a surge with 1 pack of bits and 2 saw blades along with a pen and flashlight in the holster 50hrs a week for the past 10yrs. and i forget its there sometimes.

    • @ordinaryaverageguy3233
      @ordinaryaverageguy3233  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Walley Wallington I agree although you can carry it without the bits and still have all the tools the new free series has. The bit driver gives people the option to carry more. Completely agree with your assessment and thank you for watching.

  • @007Entropy
    @007Entropy 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I think they walked away from the bit driver because if you carry all the bit drivers you really add weight and bulk to the carry. While Im not happy with the awl and the can opener, the file is more aggressive than my charge (although I wish it was longer). The wire stripper on this it actually great, slide the wire in, close the tool, twist and pull. The wire cutters are also an improvement over my charge.

    • @ordinaryaverageguy3233
      @ordinaryaverageguy3233  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aaron Miller I think with the bit driver you can combine all the screwdrivers into one bit. They have a combo bit with it P1/P2 and flat head on the other side, that takes care of most tools and you don’t have to carry the bit kit if you don’t want to. Glad you like it mate, it just felt unfinished to me.

    How does the Phillips on the Free Series P2 compare with the Phillips bit head in the other Leatherman's? Both look a similar 'flat' profile. I have the Skeletool CX and was getting an 'upgrade' to a P2 until I saw this video and have reservations now.

    • @ordinaryaverageguy3233
      @ordinaryaverageguy3233  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sergei Jonovich I just wasnt impressed mate. For $120 there are way better options. Compared to the bit driver on the wave/charge/skeletool it’s hopeless.

    Let me say first im no multi tool expert.the only multi tool ive had is a old gerber.It would bite you bad when using the pliers when they slip.For that reason i havnt used it much.I purchased a p4 and im liking it .But after watching all the videos ive had a urge to get a charge or surge.But now i hear you say the charge will bite you when the pliers slip.Does the surge or victorinox do that?Another issue ive seen on other videos and yours is the tools coming out on the p2 when opening and closing.My p4 is not doing that,but i dont sling it around like a butterfly knife.And in other videos it seemed to always be the p2 and not P4.Couldnt you adjust the torx screw tension and maybe elliminate that?Thanks for any anwers and i enjoyed your video.Have subscribed to your channel.Good day

    • @ordinaryaverageguy3233
      @ordinaryaverageguy3233  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      George Ronnie Burnett Burnett I tightened the torx bits and it made it a pain in the ass to open the tools. Maybe just didn’t do it right. The spirit is for sure the best option for not biting the hand. Love my surge but it has that issue too.

    • @georgeronnieburnettburnett4684
      @georgeronnieburnettburnett4684 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ordinary Average Guy I guess some have the perfect strength magnet and some dont.Dont see a way to adjust that.ha.Seems the other videos showing that problem was a p2 and not the p4.Probably just a coincidence.Sorry to hear that the surge also bites you when the pliers slip.I was fixing to order one ,and still might.Looked at the victorinox on internet and dont see enough difference in the tools compared to the p4 to buy.will the surge cut barbed wire? Kinda why im interested in the surge,it being called a heavy duty tool. Thanks

    • @ordinaryaverageguy3233
      @ordinaryaverageguy3233  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@georgeronnieburnettburnett4684 Brother IO love my surge. If you neared as HD multitool it's the most HD tool on the market. If you are cutting barbed wire for sure get the surge, I would not suggest the Swiss tools for such activity ads they do not have replaceable wirecutters. The surge has huge knives too.

    • @ordinaryaverageguy3233
      @ordinaryaverageguy3233  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s a SOG kilowatt. If you work with wiring a lot it’s one of the best multitools you can buy. The wire strippers work as well or better than any I’ve used and the blade on the knife is great.

    You sounded a bit confused to me LOL.
    It's like someone forced you to buy the P2 and you cannot stop complaining about what you hate on it.
    Anyway, glad to hear your opinion and, along with many others' opinion, I still stick with what I have.

    • @ordinaryaverageguy3233
      @ordinaryaverageguy3233  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Blizzbee R. Definitely not confused. I was excited for its release and when I got it I carried it for 7 days then did a review. I buy knives and tools every week and send most of them back after I review them. If I like them I keep them. For reasons I stated I disliked this multitool greatly. Thanks for watching mate.

    Have a P2 on order to potentially replace a Spirit. If the tools open like that, it's going right back in the box. Every buyer should have *zero* tolerance for this defect and maybe they will recall it. As far as bits, I have no interest and never wished I had them on the Spirit. I have dedicated tools for those times

    • @ordinaryaverageguy3233
      @ordinaryaverageguy3233  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mike Jaynes sure. Well the spirits tools are much better thought out.

      @mjnz 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ordinaryaverageguy3233 Gave it a fair chance, but the P2 is going back. I cannot stand the tools flopping out. WTF? We've been conditioned to accept flaws from a $20 Walmart tool, but for this much money I want something to work correctly on principal alone. It's very annoying to think we should ignore it as the apologists suggest. Oh well I`m perfectly happy with the old beat up Spirit, and actually now I appreciate it even more

    • @ordinaryaverageguy3233
      @ordinaryaverageguy3233  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mike Jaynes right!!! I mean how rigorous was the testing. I can not believe they did not know about the issues which means they chose to ignore them and sell the tool for $120 anyway.

  • @bilakos1987
    @bilakos1987 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    $100 for a Surge with sheath and $20 for the bit kit. Why would anyone rather have a P2?
    Sure, the hype was real, and people who got the Free tools for free did what they could, but now that people are actually buying them, we're seeing a different story.

    • @ordinaryaverageguy3233
      @ordinaryaverageguy3233  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      bilakos1987 the surge is such a better tool. Hand over fist. The ergos on the P2 were horrible. Sharp edges, the locking mechanism dug into the hand. If you can carry around almost a pound of multitool the surge is unbeatable. The charge and wave are great too. So is the Swiss line.

    This honestly reminds me of an overpriced wingman. Has the exact same toolset, crappy 2d Phillip's useless file and a tiny ruler that nobody will use. I knew once i seen the Phillip's driver i would not be interested. I'm glad they are making new stuff cause I'm a huge fan of leatherman but I'll stick with my wave and rebar over this anyday. I think Tim is out of the company and the hipsters have taken over. The marketing on this thing focuses on not using fingernails, magnets and showing off the gray sheath. It’s about status to them now. I’ve daily carried and used one of these for the past two weeks and it is not made for work. Free series is a joke.

  • @whpainting
    @whpainting 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    The external tools consist of a couple blades and four screw drivers. I have been critical of other Leatherman giving you three flat head drivers. That to me is a waste. The three tools you harped on are glorified flat head screw drivers. Can we do better?
