- Here's a quick video of me turning a natural edge hollow form. This blank was sold as an Oak Burl blank, but it is obviously not Oak, I think its Horse Chestnut which I think has ended up with more character than the Oak would have had.

You can really see the trapped souls trying to escape lol. I really like the natural finish of the top, very glad you left that feature as apart of the final product.

I was happily surprised with your final product, but if I’m being honest, I was kind of expecting, at first, a large natural edge bowl.
Sometimes the simple shapes are the best. I'm no expert - I wouldn't know oak from smoke - but whatever wood this is made from certainly deserves its moment in the spotlight.
I always love it when you put the finish on and all the hidden/surprise colors and patterns come out to play. It's beautiful Andy.

Man you make some neat stuff, good eye for shape. But you scrape a lot of things out with that gouge. Its a very strange technique.
Thanks .. its not really scraping, its taking a fine cut with the angle I'm using it, helps clean the piece up before sanding
Is it time and practice that help you choose the best varnish to bring out the right colours ? Either way always looks good .

For some reason, to me, it looks like an Onion.
It is always a nerve-racking process to take out the inside of a vase or something that is very confined. One bad move and bad things can happen. Keeps you alert for sure.

I fear the use of the sacrificial block glued to the piece. My preference is always to use a tenon and the remove it by machining or grinding away using a bench belt grinder.
I would normally use a tenon but the blank wasn't big enough
Is it an onion? Personally I'd say pomegranate.
You could put a couple of artificial Alliums in it .

You might be surprised how little money you have to spend to get started. I bought everything I needed used on Facebook marketplace and saved a ton of money.
@@JamesCouch777 i have looking it there, and online shop too. still the cheapest and used one is 4x my monthly salary.. this is how we living in third world country.
That bowl informed me that the presidential candidates were from Jupiter and my coins are laced with UraniumP135.
You could turn an actual onion and it would turn out fantastic I am certain...
