I used one of these on a garden gate where the screw kept getting pulled out of the sandy cement wall. It was totally overkill for the job but it worked a treat and the gate bracket is still 100% solid 7 years later.
Been Looking for this for over a year! Now, how do we deal with a cinder block exterior wall with a plaster board lining it’s interior? It covers 2 walls of our smaller size bedroom and my son’s small bedroom. Need to hang heavy duty floating shelves for books and also, heavy paint cans! lol (I don’t like them outside because the constant cold temps and then super high summer temps tends to ruin them! 😂
Great tip about installing the bolts in the anchors onto the thing to be mounted and then inserting them into the drilled holes! I tried it by installing the anchors in the wall and then screwing the bolts in, but one of the bolts wouldn't grip and then it was a nightmare trying to get the anchor out of the wall again. All done thanks to this great video, thanks!
Good video pal. For anyone looking to use these with only a standard masonry bit/hammer drill you can get away with using a bicycle pump and a needle tip (like you would use to pump up a football) to blow out the excess debris and dust. Messy but it certainly clears the cavity enough to allow a solid install.
Best video I have seen how to attach these. Clear and concise. A pearl between the rubbish out there. Keep making these video's. Thank you from Holland
Just wanted to thank you for your video. This was what pointed me in the right direction. Where I live, most of my walls are ultra dense, reinforced concrete - kinda stuff used in UK high rises in the 60's. Anyways, I weight 130kgs and so bought a hefty pull up bar which is wall mounted with four M10 rawlbolts now. Never felt anything so solid. I then decided to get gymnastic rings and so SDS drilled into the ceiling, which is also this god-like super concrete (took ages) - installed M10 eyehook bolts and hung 200kg load carabiners and gym rings (straps and gym rings can hold 450kg each). I still was a bit concerned. Until I set one gym ring about 5 inches off the ground and put all my weight on it....for for 10 seconds I swung gently back and forth...all 130kgs of me. On ONE BOLT! Called RawlPlug UK to see if this was OK and Adrian laughed and said I could have 3 of me on one, and the carabiner and gym rings would give out before this single rawlbolt. If it wasn't for your video I would have never been able to get myself the gear I need to get in shape at home. So a huge thank you. I have subbed. :)
Thank you for the notes on how to pull these out. I have a few installed and I was worried on what to do in case I wish to take them out in the future.
I hope to be using these exact bolts to wall mount a display cabinet to an exterior wall in a small bedroom. Never used such a thing before but you make it look so easy, thanks!
Followed this step by step when I hung my heavy punch bag! Went to B&Q bought all the wall bolts and very similar drill everything went great. Thank you for this video mate!! 🙏🏼 👍🏻👍🏻

this is just gold ....thanks for the in depth tutorial. hanged it on my wall for wall mounted pull up bar. now i have to pull it out again and shift it another place... this informative vid' helps putting it in and pulling it out ;) XD
What an excellent video. I've been struggling trying to get mine to expand and I think I'll need to use a bit of resin to help but at least I finally understand how they work. Cheers!
In UAE here and living in Dubai from one of the old buildings.....Im planning to do this in my room to bolt a pull up bar. I need to drill 4 holes... 2 on each side. I think drilling is not an issue though not so sure if ill be hitting some cables or if its a solid block. Been checking videos on how to do this...
Mate, I've got no interest in DIY/joinery at all but these videos are mint. They're so relaxing. I've seen you dismantle two hotels, renovate two houses, inspect a couple of new builds and now demonstrate some mad claw anchor bolt things. Awesome.
Thankyou sir I was fitting my pull up bars in wall and I only knew about plastic anchors These metal anchors came with the setup and i did not know how to use it. 👍🏼
Now a video in real time of you putting one back together when it comes apart. I bought 20 yesterday and 4 of them fell apart. Unfortunately I needed to use 18 and Screwfix had now closed. I spent more time putting two back together than I did fitting the rest of the shelves!
The design makes this AC a possible alternative to ductless DYI systems. It works great. The remote control could be more visual aid oriented like a backligh design. great channel.one of the best with minimal fluff...Crucial to hoover out the hole.. I normally insert with bolt fully home otherwise there is a possibility of pushing the wedge out when tapping in...
I am spending my evening watching a video of a bloke balancing his entire body weight on the top of a bolt...and finding it weirdly enjoyable. Great videos
I used the old 1/4" whit Rawl bolt on heavy hanging basket brackets some 40+ years ago and there still solid, I have removed and refitted them many times for painting also using the same bolts.
This is great. I needed to find out how to install my pull-up bar into a concrete wall and it uses these exact bolts. Super helpful! Now to buy a SDS drill. 😂
Ur all spot on here brother, what I do is put the rawl bolt on whatever I'm mounting and then turn the bolt on fully till it just starts pulling the expander nut into the bolt, then simply push the object I'm mounting till it's flush to the wall and tighten, your way is close to how I do it exept ur bolt still has a gap and that can cause the expander nut to push out of the bolt past the stops before its completely in the hole, if there is a gap between the object and the wall for some reason then just loosen a bit and tap with a hammer till the collar is in the hole before tightening, Hassel free 👍
Great guide, these wall bolts are impressively strong. Don't make the mistake I've done once when I've fixed these to plaster wall and overtightened them. Whole wall on the other side was cracked XD
I’ve got a depth gauge on my drill but this may sound silly but I never had a clue what it was used for till I saw this video..lol 😂you learn something new every day.
Do you use a drill bit that is 1mm larger than the bolt/anchor? I drilled using 12mm drill bit on the wall, and went in out a few times. But the 12mm bolt/anchor can't seem to go in. I abandoned it now as I did not want it stuck halfway and I have to use pliers to get it out or have to hammer it in.
Hi Andy, I have to agree with other comments made, I use concrete or “Lightning bolts” these days. I once tried to hang a heavy duty tv/satellite bracket on a new extension wall using rawl bolts. I drilled into the centre of the brick to find the bricks had frogs in them, the rawl bolts would not anchor and kept spinning. Ended up having to use chemical anchors instead after drilling many holes..... Rawl bolts are ok for drilling into concrete and dense concrete block, personally I wouldn’t use them on brickwork unless I was confident the bricks were solid. Thought I would share my experience, hope it helps!
Wonderful video! Finally understand how these work. Trying to add a couple of new ceiling ikea light fixtures and I got a similar wall expansion hook bolt.
A useful wee tip if using expansion bolts/Rawlbolts on an EXTERNAL brick wall: If possible for the FIRST hole, drill into the MORTAR where THREE bricks intersect, and insert an 8 mm Rawlbolt. When this is tightened in the hole between the three bricks, an earthquake wouldn't shift the fixing. Your other bolts can be drilled and inserted wherever suits.
Is there a better feeling than a plug or bolt tightening solid into a wall and it being level. It never gets old for me even for a simple wallplug and screw.

Thank you for this video, without it my husband would have made a couple of mistakes. Very informative.
