- Radio Controlled JOLIE BRISE gaff-rigged pilot cutter [*UltraHD and 4K*]
This fantastic model was scratch built by John of the Solent Radio Controlled Model Boat Club. Here it is seen sailing in light winds on Setley Pond in the New Forest, UK.
She took about a year to construct and is now into the third year of sailing. The boat is based on the period 1929/34 when "Bobby" Somerset owned her, he won the Fastnet race twice and finished second once, infact she is the only boat to win the Fastnet three times. She is based on the river Hamble and is owned by Dauntseys school in Wiltshire and is regularly raced by the pupils there. The model is approximately 1:15 scale.
In 2013 the full size Jolie Brise celebrated the centenary anniversary of her construction by the Paumelle yard in Le Havre in 1913. The world famous, gaff-rigged pilot cutter was the last boat to carry the royal mail under sail and has won the Fastnet Race three times, including the inaugural race in 1925. In 2015 and 2016 she was the overall winner of the Tall Ships Races.
Jolie Brise is owned, maintained and sailed by the pupils of Dauntsey's School.

This is just perfect combination of size of waves, boat and the wind speed. She looks so real, not like a toy. I love it.
So nice to meet a fellow modelmaker. I think everything below 1m and 5kg looks just silly
Brilliant! I'm lucky enough to have spent a lot of time sailing the real thing. This is fantastic!
It's a sight to behold, you can't take your eyes off!
Lovely rig and very responsive to breeze. It was cool when she tacked thru the wake of that stinkpot cruiser and into some slight chop. I want one.
Wauw! That is just gorgeous man :) You don't see this kind of workmanship a lot anymore these days...
You certainly don't Dutch. Just gorgeous. I must get a sail boat to play with. So relaxing if you have a pond to sail it on...and an inflatable kayak to go retrieve it if it gets stuck! LOL Cheers Dom (Essential RC)
For sure you should! Sailing yachts are good fun as well :) (the Kyosho Seawind is a good option if it wouldn't be to big for you (transport etc))
Now this is a great looking model! Thanks!
Magnifique!
Beautiful model, and nice camera work !
Superb!
Hello. Congratulations for this beautiful sailing ship and for navigation. Could you please tell me what color you used above the waterline.
I would like to know, if possible, the make and code of the paint.
Thanks
If a great guy like Formerparatrooper says so, it is certainly true.
were can download this beauty boat DXF files ribs and keel plan. i think build same my cnc machine all ribs.
any way to get a set of plans?
What is the length of JUST the HULL?
I am planning a non-RC pond yacht model of Jolie Brise at present. I will be very pleased if mine ends up sailing as well, it will certainly not ba as detailed I think.
Sku.
does offer build services would like to one of these
Nice boat. It it strictly wind powered or does it have a motor and screw?
Strictly wind powered is my understanding Gerry! Cheers Dom (Essential RC)
Oh cool. Even better. 👍👌
Is this a kit???? Which manufacturer??
I don't think so. Scratch built i think.
A lovely model. Do you operate a single servo for the rudder or can you adjust the mainsail also?
This boat definitely has 2 servos, and probably 3. One for the rudder, one for the main sails and one for the head sails.
@@5D3B1 Yes, it should be, but... I didn't notice a single sheet movement in this video. Also, pay attention to the jib sheets, they are simply passed through the ring on the sail without any fixation. If they were driven onto the sheet winch, they could not be controlled.
In principle, a model sailboat can sail without winches if the sails are set in the “full hauled” position. It's just that the sails will be less effective on other courses. I saw this a couple of times and was surprised myself. But sometimes people do that.
SPECTACULAR ! WHERE CAN I BUY ONE? TO MANUFACTURE IT? OR THE PLANS, THANK YOU!
Look at "sail tails " on TH-cam.
Gary sells the plans for "Flyer".
I'm about to build one.
I've just bought Annie a twin masted gaff rig schooner and I'm taking the plans to the printer on my way home from work tomorrow.
Is this still available as a kit ? Used to be sold by 'Moss' from Bristol....and I don't mean Artesania Latina..
Check out Sail Tales on TH-cam you won't be disappointed
Needs more jet engines
Can't imagine the reaction from the rest of the club if he had one and started it up LOL Cheers Dom (Essential RC)
