    Kirk, your editing continues to be immaculate. I see that we noticed a lot of the same things. You make an amazing point that TAG2 would have worked better as the first DLC, and then TAG1. Your point about Reclaimed Earth being a beautiful level but in the end feeling like you've seen it before in a bunch of games is something I was gonna mention in my video. I was gonna talk about Cause And Effect in Titanfall 2, but I cut it due to time. Keep up the good work.

      Thanks man! You're totally right it does look a lot like Effect and Cause from Titanfall! I just played through that not too long ago, maybe thats why it felt so familiar. This DLC was a bummer but I am eager to see if ID makes some adjustments now that the feedback is out there. I'm curious what development was like for them in-between the DLC releases. Anyways man thank you for the comment and keep up the good work on your end as well, I feel like every time I watch your videos I learn something new about this game I love.

      Kinda has destiny vibes too. Or skyrim in a weird way. This is a personal thing but I really don't like all these "ancient ruins type levels" exultia, sentinal prime, taras nabad, world spear, and even earth reclaimed a little bit. It's okay in principle, but it feels so overused. Like I actually love the Exultia ruins part, it just gets to be too much later on.
      Also, I was sad that that awesome alien biome full of crystals at the end of world spear had 0 combat encounters. That was the coolest part of the level!!

      @@tracystevens6930 Yeah I was a little bummed about that too. When I saw that there were angels(?) entombed in the crystals I half expected there to be some new enemy or a boss fight.

    Honestly what humors me the most about this game is how the Seraphim ended up being the hardest boss(at least for me). Think about it: this regular angel dude is harder to fight than: an extinct species of demon made purposely to hunt down Hell’s arch enemy that gets reborn along with an upgrade, a champion of the arena who has never lost a fight in his life, a being so powerful she can only be harmed within her own world and is also the leader of the “angels”, a demonic Titan who threatens reality by just EXISTING, and literal Satan.

    I really liked the first level. Especially the arenas with the meat hook things in the sky since it’s awesome to be flying in the air comboing the enemies below. Also if you get it right you can stay in the air the whole arena killing all the enemies below which in my opinion is just so awesome!

    Im gonna be honest, I found TAG 2 harder than TAG 1. It could be because I try not to use the hammer, but I die a lot more in TAG 2. It poses a great challenge (to me anyway)

    • @livirus3826
      @livirus3826 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I personally found TAG1 WAY harder. Using UN for comparison, beating Blood Swamps alone took me as many attempts as the entirety of TAG2. Both took me 3 attempts to beat. And I haven't even begun practicing The Holt because I literally died close to 50 times on almost every Nightmare run I've ever done there.
      I also used the shit out of the Hammer, which is probably part of the reason why TAG2 was a lot easier than TAG1 for me. Plus a few BFG rounds here and there, but I use those in TAG1 as well and I still struggle

    Hmm... I'm afraid this was bound to happen at some point. Ever since Doom 2016, the devs have been constantly one upping themselves in terms of gameplay mechanics and enemy design; with The Ancient Gods Part 1 it already felt like they had pushed things as far as they could go. I'm not at all surprised that Part 2 would end up being easier and less inspired. For average FPS players, as much as it may annoy hardcore "Doomers", Doom Eternal was already plenty difficult. So there was some pushback against the even higher difficulty of TAG1 and, perhaps in a classic example of overcorrection, they moved too much in the other direction with TAG2. I also think that even a great dev team can have only so many new ideas that also happen to be good; at some point your new ideas may not 'stick' anymore.
    I'm not upset though, it's still good fun and I have to give credit to the devs for doing something I wouldn't have thought possible not too many years ago: turning a fantastic piece of gaming history into a fantastic piece of modern gaming. I just wish that they now put the Doom franchise out to pasture for a good long time. There may be a time when a new generation of devs thinks up a way to put a new spin on Doom, but for the moment more sequels would probably end up being less inspired "more of the same" affairs.

    • @FireStarJutsu
      @FireStarJutsu 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah for real also this kinda idk how to call it... Not scares, but makes me a little nervous. Like when I think of DOOM Eternal. How in the hell can you make a better shooter than this? What sort of ideas would it require? Then again I think well people have thought the same though and were surprised.
      Anyway I really enjoyed TAG1&2 even if they didn't add anything new the base of DOOM Eternal is so much fun it wouldn't even matter IMO.

    The reason why Immora looks like a recolored Urdak is because it was the first place created by the Dark Lord, who also created the Maykrs. So Immora is not a copy of Urdak, it's the original. For it to look like Nekravol would not make much sense, that city was built by the Sentinels and the Hell Priests without any Makyr like tech.

    I just wish they made the dark lord rushed you harder, like his 2 hit attack can now be follow by an immediate shield bash so the player can't mindlessly double dash out of his range, make it feel like an actual dual and not you waiting for Dark Lord to fuck himself up. They should have also remove all the fodder in the arena. So your only source of hammer is from his dog spawn and you have to make an decision of whether use the hammer on the ghost demon at phase 3 or not, creating a fun little challenge for good player and a hard decision of casual player

    That was an excellent review, I agree with just about everything you said. This dlc didn’t feel as grand as it could’ve been. I mean it’s the literal ending battle of good vs evil and it felt like just a normal doom level. I really wish they left this storyline open until an eventual 3rd installment, that way that could’ve had a longer time to buildup the end of the slayers arc and created more exciting mechanics.

    I absolutely loved The Ancient Gods Part 1, and while it was tough as nails, the level design and combat encounters were top notch, even better than vanilla Doom Eternal. I know a lot of people complained that it was maybe a bit too much in terms of difficulty, and Ancient Gods Part 2 is obviously an answer to that. I enjoyed the new DLC, but it's too short and the new additions to the gameplay lack substance and feel superfluous. Overall, it's decent enough to play through, but it feels like the Doom tank is running on E and might need a refill.

    Ngl I like that the hammer is charged through combat. It makes it feel more like a tool and something that you won't forget you have unlike the Crucible AKA the "Press MB1 to Win". A price raise on how much blood is needed to use the hammer would be nice tho (Difficulty determines the price maybe?)

    I feel like Ancient Gods Part 1 is when the developers double down on what made Doom Eternal awesome, but this in effect caters only to hardcore or serious Doom Eternal lovers. The Ancient Gods part 2 is when the developers let go of the peddle, and started to cater to the more casual fans. While I am at it, the new enemies in part 2 are pretty stupid, and do not deserve to be in Doom Eternal.

    To be fair, when it comes to Immora looking similar to Urdak, I read it as to be kind of expected since it was the Dark lord who created them so, their tech and architecture been similar to Immora was fitting, at least in my head. I also agree that the last boss, the dark lord himself should've represented more of a challenge.

      You know that is a good point and does make sense lore wise. I still would have liked some of that iconic Doom hell imagery to be there tho. If it actually a combination of the Urdak tech and hell fire and brimstone that would have maybe done the trick for me.

      @TiagoAlvarez1986 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@KIRKCOLLECTS well, not that I want to change you mind or anything but, it was always there, hell is a world, has different countries, cities and, just like our world, each part has a different flavor to it. We've been in hell before, different locations tho. I don't want to justify anything, and I also don't think they, Devs, went through this same line of thinking but, as in any other game, we, players, have to fill in the gaps and shortcomings that devs sometimes have to work with. So, I choose to believe hell has different flavors and visual touches depending on where you are. Some places resemble the sentinel world on a deeply decayed state, others like urdak. Also, that opens up the possibilities to have more varied hell locations in the future and do not feel like we've been there already.
      Also, great content, man, keep it up!

      @KIRK COLLECTS, Doom Slayer for Smash or cross over with Animal Crossing.
      Big AAA gaming companies just keep recycling established franchises.
      Often if ya want new FPS franchises, you gotta look to AA or Indie.
      Quantum Error is being made by 4 devs and is basically Doom 3 meets Dead Space.
      Project Ferocious is being made by 1 dev using Unity and is essentially original Far Cry/Crysis with some dinosaurs in it too. Thanks for not giving us that 1 Ubisoft lol.
      Even Trepang2 is being made by only 4 or 5 devs too.

    • @livirus3826
      @livirus3826 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I mean, it took me only 3-4 attempts to beat the whole DLC. And that was on a base XB1 controller with default layout. Plus, no deaths on Immora or the Dark Lord, even though I did like 3 practice runs for both levels whereas I normally do like 15 practice runs. TAG1's Blood Swamps alone already took 3 attempts and I've yet to get a single deathless Holt run...
      so I would argue, if you expected an even bigger challenge than TAG1, it IS too easy. But goddamn, this DLC was so much more fun and even though I felt like the Dark Lord fight could've had more combat variety, the boss fight still felt pretty good now that I look back on it. Can't say the same for Samur...
