Why Analog Music Sounds So Good

  • Follow Robin Danehav and Mattias Olsson on a deep dive into the world of analog music creation in this film recorded at the Roth Händle Studio in Stockholm, Sweden - where he has collected analog music gear during the last 30+ years.
This is a story about creativity and integrity whether you make music, animate cartoons or paint with acrylic paint.
I'm proud to announce that this film is sponsored by Soundtoys.
Soundtoys is an audio effects creator and a fanatic collector of analog gear - perhaps even more than Mattias! It's one of the reasons why their effects plug-ins sound so good. Soundtoys' meticulous study of these classics has merged the color, character, and quirks of analog with modern features that are impossible in the original hardware units. So when it comes to digital or analog, Soundtoys plug-ins are the best of both worlds.
If you want to do what Mattias is doing, but on a computer without collection all of this crazy gear - Enter code MATTIAS15 and get 15% off analog-inspired plug-ins at www.soundtoys.com through October 30. Not valid on gift cards or Soundtoys 5 Academic.
Check out Mattias on / rothhandle for almost daily weird and wonderful sound creation inspiration.

I wish there was a less buzzy way of describing it besides "analog music creation," which just sounds like another social media trend to jump on board, but I do enjoy watching glorious weirdo Mattias working his magic. His creativity philosophy is exactly what young youtube music makers need to hear rather than more "This is the secret trick to correctly and properly record and mix a hit!" nonsense. Just turn everything up to 7!

@@brentsmith9411 WOW Thank you, I love this comment! And I totally agree with you that the whole youtube culture of "THIS IS HOW TO DO THIS" is sort of sad. We need more creative weirdos willing to try new things and explore what's possible. Hopefully this works as a counter weight :)
And yeah, the title.... It's also a thing, that to get any views you have to make the title super clear while also (sometimes in the most crude ways) stir up some sort of curiosity gap to get people to click it. I would have loved to put the actual film title on there "The unexpected turns of analog sound", but that wouldn't probably work since it's a bit more complex. Sad but true. But if you have a great suggestion - I'd be happy to consider it! Thanks again!

It is my pleasure to not only call Mattias my bandmate in the Devil’s Staircase but also my friend. I see him as family, and this captures the magic of entering his creative space. As a song writer, it is always thrilling to hear what he will send when I ask him to play drums on a track, knowing there will be so much more. Creativity and integrity is exactly right.

This was an absolutely fantastic film! I've known Mattias for quite a few years, to be able to see the master in his workshop was an insightful and visual treat.

A very enjoyable little film, a quick glance round my music room shows most of my gear is on 5 - I knew I'd been doing something wrong! 😀

Dette var moro å se! Hva med en oppfølger, en del 2 med mer musikk og mer fortellinger om instrumentene? Denne filmen fortjener et stort publikum, måtte algoritmene stå deg bi.
