I love Dan being more involved in the show, the amount of joy he brings me cannot be understated. The humor and technical conversations he has are great!
possibly the most unhinged WAN yet ahah, i love having dan as a host, please let us see more of Dan! he brings another different views on things which is really nice to hear
This was such a good show. Can I just say how much I really appreciate an afterdark with Dan talking mad technical details on projects. Genuinely, I get it might fly over some watchers but it seems like the perfect place for it. If we can have more of you three just shooting the shit that would be fantastic.
If you dont know about the game…The issue is…imagine buying the “ultimate edition” of a game that says u get all the cool stuff and further expansions as the game is in beta. Then they release other expansions that arent quite as good for the people that didnt get the initial package. Now this new expansion includes completely new game modes and benefits better than the original ultimate package. That is garbage. I got the game in original format like 60 bucks..fine. Then i paid for an expansion which was another 60 (literally last week). So im 120 dollars in. And now a new expansion that is better than all would cost me 150 dollars to UPGRADE from my current version which is already base game and 60 dollar expansion. Im done. Also, to make it clear the original “best expansion” was discontinued before they released this new one. Just money grabbing in beta form. They are definitely not appreciative of their core player base
They never appreciated their core community. Look at the dumbster fire this game is. Full body armer, Level 6, gigantic backpacks, dumb masks and Helmets. We just need dumb skins and emotes now...
Tarkov is an "unreleased" game which has been sold and is being played for many, many years. Who even sells DLC for games that are supposed to be unfinished paid previews. Just don't buy demo, alpha or beta games.
@@EximiusDux Some early release games are decent, and years in devs are still working away without trying to get more cash out of people. Tarkov started out with dirty pricing and I did a 2 week trial then walked away because I had better shit to spend money on.
Imagine having a game full of hackers, a game that you lose all your gear when you die to a hacker, and now having the audacity to charge 250 dollars for a new version of the hackfest. Rofl
Have you even played the game. I paid $160 in 2017 and nothing more since with the full experience of the game that offers you and experience you can’t get anywhere else. And every game has cheaters? The double standards are insane. Seems like you don’t know what you’re talking about either. We’re destroying a much smaller gaming studio for no reason at all. People act like the game came out this year and feel entitled cuz they invested only their money but not their time. Dont act like you supported it before people just talk about it when the negativity is relevant and barely even play the game. Go back to supporting your triple a developers and play those games. Next time you think of spreading negativity make sure you present your own experience not what you hear from your favorite tuber or streamer. Sound like a bot and a clone to the actual Tarkov player js. People really need to stop spreading all this false information. They rather talk shit about the game then mind there own business just to get some clout
Some people reading this will agree and still do it anyway. That's the problem. Gamurs and sports fans are truly the dumbest fucking consumer segments.
Can't fully agree with not buying day 1. You're not supposed to buy on day 1 because of early bugs that will be reported and patched by first players. But if no one buys on day 1, it effectively stops being day 1. Buying on day 2 won't magically save you from those early bugs if there's no one to find them.
"Single player mode is not DLC, its a feature"... Since its a "feature" of the game it should be part of the game to begin with to start and NOT some $200 add on.
@@LuCallofDuty1 If you are saying that SOME of those using the mod don't own the game, sure that is likely. But even the makers of the SPT mod have said that you should own the game if you are using the mod, and going so far as to outright ban anyone mentioning pirating it from their discord. I was one of them who owned the game and used SPT. And like I said I would still have rather BSG put it into the base game for everyone to use in a legit way.
that is one of the saddest part the comunity of tarkov we started being a small niche of war z , day z, arma br and survival mods and stalker mods players that we were doing the PR for the company recomending the game to everyone for years since 2017 the game blown up on twitch on 2020 and made it the titan it become thanks to the comunity of die hard fans of this niche genre of extraction shooter and survival hardcore games in general this is how we got treated over the years with lies and delays 6+ years since release the game is still unfinished , unpolished, broken (audio and desync issues ) , infested by cheaters using ESP -Radars and more and they ask us now for more money adding microtransactions and a new edition with P2W stuff and a exclusive mode when they not even delivered the most basic stuff they promised to the backers promised for 2019 ( yes this game was supossed to be on 1.0 and on Steam on late 2019 that is what the CEO Nikita Buyanov promised initially to the supporters on 2017 i was there) BSG is a garbaje company
Honestly we could sit here and list tons of games with similar issues in part because they're not in the limelight so much within the industry anymore. Personally I'm big into Rocket League which is pretty irrelevant nowadays but the relationship between the RL community and psyonix/epic games is a flaming pile of pig sht
Think just possibly no one cares because tarkov has been garbage since it’s beginning? I immediately wanted a refund and those cunts told me they literally could not do that. This happened when it first came out. It’s always been commie garbage.
The inability of gamers to stand up and boycott a game or company because of disrespectful and downright abusive behavior is only part of a bigger picture. People all over the world are refusing to stand up and say no to companies, governments, family or strangers on the Internet. We all need to grow a pair and say no, myself included, to all these malevolent actors. This world is ours and we can mold the world into what we want to see. And along with saying no, we need to actually back it up, because no just means, "if you continue with this behavior I will do something you do not like."
The issue you face at all times is that Unless these kinds of things become national, spreading from person to person, chances of it being significant enough to make changes is minimal. The common person might not care about the issues they're experiencing, they might not even know they're emcountering issues. Many people are entirely ignorant and they make up a big chunk of the gaming community. The kind of people that are collehe jocks that buy the newest fifa game and play the whole year with their friends. Often times youll hear people say "i play how i want and im happy with it, I don't care about the things you tell me" And it's hard balance between trying to teach people of issues and that they should stand against it, and simply being an ass negatively trying to impact their passtime.
@@maegnificant because video games are a big part of their life, probably their preferred form of entertainment. People don't want something they enjoy going to shit and being unable to go a day without some scandal popping up or losing the joy they once had because some corporate bs.
@@maegnificantThat’s not the issue. This seeps into everything. You think mtx or DLC existed 20 years ago like it does now? Absolutely not, skins were already apart of the purchase and DLC was an entire new game.
@@maegnificant Remember the BMW subscription based heating that people found outrageous and "Controversial" and all that jazz? It was the same story with paid DLCs in gaming 13-14 years ago and look where we are now. The more you enable such anti-consumer practices which are already rampart in big tech, the more f*cked you end up being as a consumer...
This episode was decidedly unhinged from the very beginning. And then it got even better. After Linus finally went to sleep, and Dan took his place, it metamorphosed into a form beyond itself. I’m still unsure of exactly what I just witnessed. But through the chaos… I think WAN Show just leveled up. 🌟w🌟
Really hope some EOD owner successfully sues because of the "you'll never need to buy something else" so that I can get my EOD refunded because I've quit once we found out that 40% of raids have cheaters.
I quit as well i just couldn't deal with it. Before i could dismiss stuff as just "they got lucky" or "they are just better" but after it became fairly obvious when a cheater got me and i just could not enjoy myself (ignorance was bliss). Would have loved the single player mode... nice way to get me back into tarkov but not for even more money after i already purchased the thing that was supposed to give me everything.
The tarkov topic is the exact reason I have quit playing destiny 2. Asking for more money every year, removing old content, It is a never ending money pit.
I don't play either of these games, but I know the two games are not really comparable in that regard. What are you talking about? You pay for new content in Destiny. Seems like a simple concept. Why else would they keep spending millions for new content?
Done with COD, WOW, Destiny after the content I already paid for just so they could delay the release. Game companies seem to think the money is unlimited no matter what they make
Loving hearing Dan getting his game dev nerd on! Also thanks Linus for the ‘dad in your 40s’ merch message response. It’s totally reframed my thinking on it - does not matter how old I get I’ll always be up to date on the latest in tech, so I might actually be able to connect with my children better than some younger fathers can longer term. I’d never thought of it like that and it’s a weight off 😊
39:55 I work for a company that helps researchers get EU funded grants. We take a success fee of 1-2.5% of the grant. 20% is an absolute joke. There’s no way you can add that much value to any project.
The big issue about the Edison Motors MNP thing is that MNP administers the grants. They decide who gets them. They offer a service for 20% of the grant for MNP to write the grants that would then be submitted to be reviewed and administered by MNP. MNP will write the grant paperwork then MNP will decide who gets the grant.
so nice seeing dan and luke talking about gamedev ♥i host a weekly "gamedev club" for 10-20 year old kids/teens as an after school activity and its highly motivating to hear such stories from people like dan and luke. Often the kids do not get a lot of praise from parents/teachers engaging in gamedev in all its forms but i see how dedicated they are and how much fun and learning is happening every friday.
I freaking LOVE producer Dan whenever he gets camera time, mike time, wan time. He's such a great human being ; knowledgeable, humble and funny as hell. Love from France 🇫🇷 ❤️ 🇨🇦
2:44:02 FYI, Fusion 360 is still free for hobbyists who don't make money off it! I use it all the time and have been for a few years. I wasn't a fan of the changes they made either, but it is still free. The biggest change I actually noticed in my use is that you are now limited to having 10 editable designs at a time. Its not a big deal, though, as you can just right-click some of your saved designs and set them to un-editable. You can easily switch back and forth from un-editable to editable at any time, so long as you don't have more than 10 set to editable at any one time.
Not the worst kind of limit to have on a product like that. I think are able to make a little money off of it, $1000 a year, but no idea how that side works.
1:03:02 Turbocharging is not the problem, I have a twin turbo car with 270,000 miles on it and at this point it looks like the drivetrain will outlast the rest of the car if I can't stop the rust. Most large trucks on the road are turbocharged and they often go 1,000,000+ miles.
2:49:42 I remember people setting their wireless driver country code in Linux to Belize because there was no power restrictions and no channel restrictions so you could access up to channel 14 on the 2.4GHz band and blast it out at max watts. 😂
Is there no dead pixel fix in OBS? Just replace the dead pixel with a Gaussian average of the surrounding pixels and it would be absolutely unnoticeable.
42:50 regarding the Edison motors, MNP issue I don’t think you dug into it enough. The main problem was that the person who was deciding whether or not to approve their grant. Was the same person who reached out to them from MNP offering the grant writing service saying if you use us and give us the 20% fee, you’re a lot more likely to be approved. so to recap they were denied when they’re the only company British Columbia that can even apply for this grant. And then the person who denied their grand reached out to them from a private corporation and said you let us write your grand. You’re probably gonna be approved. Just give us 20%.
People aren't even talking about the fact that the $250 scam edition you get upon wipe 3 high level kitted guns versus the standard edition starting with m4s and MP5s with iron sights. You're quite literally starting a wipe with guns that are leagues ahead of someone who did not pay for a more expensive edition. Straight up pay to win.
Another thing is Luke mentions it "upgrades" your account, but I think Linus didn't realize that it alludes to the fact you will no longer be EoD and entitled to the free dlc. So if they don't get hit with a lawsuit now they'll be free to release dlc and not provide it for free. I don't play the game but a friend was complaining because you'd lose other EoD Perks when upgrading.
Write to the local MP about the concerns with and in support of Edison Mtrs. I know, I know, but I was blown away with the response I’ve gotten, and other people have gotten surprisingly useful responses from them. I’m in BC as well, so I know I will be. The more the better.
Hey Dan. Double check those cameras I've had a few occasions where I've had glitches on my OBS scenes due to overlays that have mildly crashed and left graphical glitches transparently interposed over laying the underlying video object. But it might also be the camera since it's in three different places then again that could be three separate objects that have manifested.
It's always refreshing to have a different set of hosts every once in a while. When luke is paired with someone else, it leads up to such fun and casual conversations!
I know this will not happen again in a long time, but this became a very balanced podcast between Dan and Luke, not Linus talking all the time and interrupting Luke the few times he's allowed to talk. I've watched the wan show for years, But I just realized how tired I am of Linus monopolizing the show.
Edison Motors not being able to afford the *defense* of a lawsuit simply because the other company is bigger - is absurd. Why the hell would i need to be able to afford defending myself, when its the other person that is alleging it. Does Canadas legal system not put the cost of the defense on the suing party until proven guilty?
Linus: I still hold out and don't buy cosmetics that should have been included with the game. I don't buy 'play early' editions. I don't give into any of those greedy methods to increase a publisher's bottom line. There's still ONE of us who holds out while everyone else gave up.
Same It took my friends months to convince me to get Hell divers 2 because I despise live service games. I will never spend more than the purchase price
@@kcscustom9759I haven't bought a full price game in years. I seriously considered Baldurs Gate 3, but was too busy with work so I passed for that too for bow
On top of my previous comment, if you buy a game via steam or online, you DON'T own the game. You're just renting like. Ubisoft recently stole 'The Crew' from people's library's after it took the servers down.
Rivets are much easier to drill out than corroded bolts, and will have much fewer fasteners fall off for warranty analysis. Glue would be less serviceable than rivet, but drilling a new hole could introduce more corrosion (galvanic corrosion from dissimilar metals or rusting of carbon steel) depending on materials and coatings used
Road deaths per 100K US 12.9, Canada 5.3, Germany 3.7, UK 2.9, Norway 2. Yes, the US needs speed limiters, standardised driving tests, limitations on what 16-17 year olds can drive in terms of engine, driver training, and more. They are number 85 in the world for this metric and it's 45K people a year. Why is Norway doing so well? Only micro-nations such as Monaco and Hong Kong are doing better. It's because most of their car sales are electric. Meaning not only are the cars inherently safer because they've got so many electric ones, but also their cars will be much more recent on average than other countries. Average age of a car in the US is 12 years and it's 8 in the UK apparently. And we have higher safety standards in the first place. But you won't have the best safety technology if your car is out of date. But mostly it's because the USA has terrible driving test standards.
I think speed limiters (other than a maximum speed, which many vehicles already have) might have issues though. Like what if the hardware used to detect the limit breaks, or a sign falls down or is awkwardly placed? Some roads don't have signs at all. Even if it's GPS based, there can be location errors, and on many rural roads the limit data can be outdated, incorrect or completely missing. There could be an emergency situation where you are being chased. I don't really have a problem with speed warnings, though. My Bolt has a speed warning and I actually like it, although it has to be set manually. It only ding once every time you go over the set limit, but I wish it would ding once for up to five over, then give a constant warning after that.
Big D; May I suggest an RTW meter for monitoring your audio? The meters in your software clearly are not telling you what stuff sounds like. Whenever someone calls in the levels of the caller are much lower than the levels of the live person. And as soon as one tries to listen to the WAN show while there's other sounds going on (e.g.; in a car) you have to turn it up real loud to hear, in this case, LInus, with Luke blasting out of my speakers to an earpiercing level. I checked on my RTW meter, there's a huge, huge visible difference between the two. Would definitely make the show more enjoyable if the levels were a little more balanced!
22:50 It's not so much the players doing a short boycott that will influence BSG, we need the Streamers who are all publishing videos saying they are also upset about this to stop streaming Tarkov for a while and all at once, This is the only way Nikita will take notice when his main form of advertisement suddenly vanishes. edited to correct time stamp

@@VinceTaglia they own the rights to their game. It's the same reason emulation is often on the wrong side of the grey line, if people are pirating it then they are technically responsible for the pirating. Which I don't agree with, it's stupid, but it's how the laws are currently written.
@@Brockzillagaming Yes they own the rights to their game. They do not own the rights to the intellectual property of modders and reverse engineers that are creating their own creations, even if they interact with BSG's code. As long as the modders are only sharing their own creations and do not share BSG's code, there is nothing BSG can do to the devs, or the users that are installing the mods on the legally licensed version of the code they legally downloaded. There are a few other caveats as well like making sure people know they aren't affiliated with the dev team etc, but the SPT devs go out of their way to make sure that is the case. BTW, the only ones "technically responsible for pirating" are the ones sharing cracked version of Tarkov code. No one in the SPT dev community is doing that. They are just distributing code that they created themselves. SPT has nothing to do with piracy.
Let's hope these are accurate enough as the stream died twice...

The double standards are insane. Seems like you don’t know what you’re talking about either. We’re destroying a much smaller gaming studio for no reason at all. What about early release? I've been looking at that new manor lords game pretty hard.
Can't fully agree with not buying day 1. You're not supposed to buy on day 1 because of early bugs that will be reported and patched by first players. But if no one buys on day 1, it effectively stops being day 1. Buying on day 2 won't magically save you from those early bugs if there's no one to find them.

The issue you face at all times is that
Unless these kinds of things become national, spreading from person to person, chances of it being significant enough to make changes is minimal.
The common person might not care about the issues they're experiencing, they might not even know they're emcountering issues.
Many people are entirely ignorant and they make up a big chunk of the gaming community. The kind of people that are collehe jocks that buy the newest fifa game and play the whole year with their friends.
Often times youll hear people say "i play how i want and im happy with it, I don't care about the things you tell me"
And it's hard balance between trying to teach people of issues and that they should stand against it, and simply being an ass negatively trying to impact their passtime.

39:55 I work for a company that helps researchers get EU funded grants. We take a success fee of 1-2.5% of the grant. 20% is an absolute joke. There’s no way you can add that much value to any project.
I'm going to guess that the company is not also who approves the grant.
This.
It's wrong on multiple levels, and it goes even deeper than that, as they are used for government audits too.

You can indeed add a layer resized to almost that small and apply gaussian blur to it.
One day I listen to WAN show as podcast, you release a new intro.

It only ding once every time you go over the set limit, but I wish it would ding once for up to five over, then give a constant warning after that.
why does the chat come up blank and reduce the screan size.
until the chats appear I cannot close it. When closed I get propper screan size
Holy shit, LTT and edison motors? Fuck yes
Dude, Mozilla is actually a homie in Cyber security.
If you want to talk about milking or taking the piss out of a community look at RuneScape 3. Enough said.
Such a humble price for Tarkov
22:50 It's not so much the players doing a short boycott that will influence BSG, we need the Streamers who are all publishing videos saying they are also upset about this to stop streaming Tarkov for a while and all at once, This is the only way Nikita will take notice when his main form of advertisement suddenly vanishes.
edited to correct time stamp
Okay, guys, send Linus home early every time. More Dan & Luke talking about amateur game design could replace After Dark every week.
Consider this a vote for Dan to be a permanent WAN host!

Man I love the Dan and Luke podcast!
THE LEGALITY OF SPT IS COMPLETELY LEGAL
Reverse engineering is not a crime!
This is not correct. Reverse engineering can't be used as a defense in a case of patent infringement.
@@Joe-cm5kl Do BSG own any patents?
@@VinceTaglia they own the rights to their game. It's the same reason emulation is often on the wrong side of the grey line, if people are pirating it then they are technically responsible for the pirating. Which I don't agree with, it's stupid, but it's how the laws are currently written.
@@Joe-cm5kl With regards to patent infringement it's not the reverse engineering that's the problem, it's the patent infringement.
