Thank you…you have given me much to contemplate as a 62 year old artist that has a lack of confidence in her work…we each have a voice with our work…figuring out what you are saying is the crux of it all…
Hi Carol! Many thanks for your comments of truth. I hope you are figuring "it" out and I'm glad my videos are enlightening for you. Cheers to staying true to yourself....
My parents "said" they supported my art growing up, but if I did anything other then things that they could recognize, realism, they discouraged that. Even though I won some awards. Then life took over and commercial art happened. You gota eat. Now at 72 I am trying to find out who "I" am. I think my art is to try to get people to see. At least passed my parents eyes. I like you stuff.
Your comment is one I hear from many artists in terms of wanting to find their voice at a later stage of life after career, children grown, parents gone, etc... Abstract expression comes from within, and creating this way does reveal who we are. I hope you are finding your voice, and I'm glad you have found my videos! Thanks for your words of truth...
Welcome and thanks for your interest! I hope you enjoy the variety of information I share here, and enjoy perusing the Whole Artist Mastery website. The Philosophy page will give you an understanding of what "it's all about!" I look forward to hearing your thoughts again. Cheers...
You have simplified my artistic life considerably, and I am very grateful. Choosing one or two sizes in squares and rectangles simplifies my art supply order a LOT. This narrowing of focus creates boundaries that will help me focus on my work more intensively. I am 77, and because of physical limitations, I cannot build my own canvases any more, and I want to get to know the people who purchase my work. So, bingo! I will make smaller work and approach coffee shops etc. I have a set of guidelines! Thanks so much.
HI Ellen! SO glad this was helpful for you... I learned may years ago about how sticking to certain sizes accomplished a simplifying of choices, and a more consistent presentation in a show. Many thanks for sharing your thoughts here!
Thank you! I love how you breakdown what I should think about when trying to be more cohesive in my work. I am pretty much facing this dilemma since I work in different media and draw/paint a variety of subjects and therefore have differing styles. A lot of food for thought. Thank you!
Thank you so much, you give me hope, as sometime I feel so lost!!! I wonder if you can one day make a video of ways and exercises of creating a harmoniere in in your different works? 🌈
You're so welcome! I'm glad this message gives you hope and acceptance for the times we feel lost in our painting practice. I'd appreciate a bit more description for your request to have a video focus on "creating harmony" in my work. Are you referring to composition? Many thanks!
Thank you! I'm actually referring to colors. Since I left the comment here, I found that painting from real life and not from photo makes color more harmoniums, I will be happy to know what is your opinion? @@mariannemitchellwholeart
This was so helpful, honestly some of the most constructive information that I have seen on this platform. You simplified it so much, and it made sense in a way that I never thought of with regard to my work. I am very all over the place, but I know in my soul the kind of work I want to express and why. This gives me a much needed container to approach my artwork. Thank you and I am a new subscriber🙏🏾
Hi Ann! Welcome to the Whole Artist Mastery channel, and many thanks for your kind words about the content. It's truly gratifying to know I am making a difference in the lives of the artists who find their way to "me!" I invite you to peruse the Whole Artist Mastery website to familiarize yourself with the WAM philosophy, online course, and new online community which launches mid-January 2024! You may also be interested in checking out the Mentorship programs should individual guidance and instruction be the right thing for you now. Cheers!
Refreshing thoughts. At 67 I am creating my best and most personal work though at 3' x 4' I have run into "nice, but too big for our space" feedback. Thank you for sharing your ideas. I will check out your other videos!
Hello! Somehow your comments fell off my radar screen :-) So glad this video was helpful. Great to hear that @ 67 you are creating your best and most personal work. The majority of artists working with me in a mentorship program are between 60-80 years old and feel this urgency to tap into the depth within themselves. Deeply personal, unvarnished expression in the work. It sounds as if you feel the same way... I think we are all just beginning! (I am 65!) Cheers to your practice... Marianne
be authentic??? know who you are???find your voice??? core of your expression??? Common comments that always leave me feeling like I've eaten a bag of marshmallows. Appreciate your intentions to help us all...just thought to share one kind of authentic reaction to this advice. Thank you!
Okay okay, relax... just do it.... as far as an artist statement... dont waste people's time. One or two short sentences will do, otherwise its all BS.
