3:30 to 3:48 I lose a ton of momentum on the XR, those are definitely 2nd gear corners. I could've easily matched the Speed Triple's time, but there's no doubt that the Triumph can get around faster. The bike is faster, now it's the rider that needs to get faster.
FYI. The XR was completely altered in 2020. If your focus is touring, get the newer one. If your focus is sport, get a 2019 or 2018. I prefer sport, & they screwed the 4,5 & 6 up after 2019. It's really an upright Super Sport up to 19, then its half Super Sport, half touring beyond that.
A wee power slide there coming out of that one turn must have been fun! :-) The speed triple is probably going to be the fastest once you get a bit more comfortable with it, but I still like the XR. Nice video Cuban Rider. Some more would be OK too!
I see you caught that. 😉 Yes, the electronics came to my rescue more than once this time around. I will be posting a bit more video possibly next week; very much looking to go back to COTA, lots to improve still.
Grande cubano!
They are Five RFX1 Replica. They have a newer version now, but these I found super cheap, less than $100 and the fitment is amazing for my hands. I've had another pair for a few years now.
Like you, as someone who's had both, XR is the scalpel that's way easier to live with, but the S3 is so awesome those times you need the raw grunt of a hammer.
@@RioterRides The way it's tuned, the XR is a high-end screamer; the S3's power arrives lower in the rev and just has more of a kick than the XR's pull. Tbh, I miss having a triple. But heated grips and some wind protection go a long long way for me these days.
Cuban: as always you deliver. Great video. Had the RS 1200 for a weekend test ride. Felt ridiculously easy to ride on the twisty roads - was not sure how it would be on the track. I see now that also on track it performs well - I bought the Aprilia Tuono Factory 2021 instead which performs insanely.
Hi men, great video, i´m just between this two models please give me a hand, which one do you prefer. The bmw is a 2020 model with carbon package, the Speed is a 2022 model with no extra item
Awesome video and pro riding! Could be cool to do a side by side for these laps. Your turn 20 on the XR may have cost you a bit of time. More videos please!
Believe me I tried to get them side by side, but the videos would look too small. I may do a little experiment for Facebook. Far from pro riding, but I'm happy I dipped into the 2:20s the first time I rode the Speed Triple out there. ✊
Ya know...I watched a video on here of a stock speedy 1050 running the Nurbergring in 7m36s...the 1200 with the added power can only make it faster! What track is this BTW? I was supposed to re-cert my WSBK ticket in Utah this past summer. But being Canadian and the cootie mess going on its gonna have to wait
from what i can see, So much of that S1000 XR's timing was how confident and comfortable you are with it. Think once u get more comfortable with the speed1200 and all lil issues are resolved it'll be quite a weapon. what tires on both bikes btw?
@@CubanRider I'm on the newish power 5s for my superduke . Lovely sporty road tire. Will consider the cup2s when track access is a possibility again 👍🏼..just realise theyve aligned their car and bike tires names 😳
Absolutely! It's brutal trying to hold on getting up to 160 mph. It doesn't have the "butt stop" like on the Duke 890 either, you end up slipping back past the end of the seat.

What mods are you thinking of doing to the Speedy ? It's such a light and potent bike it almost needs lower bars to keep the front wheel down at the track, plus tucking in would be easier too. Top video 🙂
Hey Nick, not thinking of any mods at the moment. I would like to tune it in the future and squeeze a little more power out of it, but as is it's a very capable machine. I didn't experience much trouble with the bike wanting to wheelie, it pulls pretty cleanly out of the turns. Holding on it's another matter, you really have to hold on to those bars at speed, there's not a lot of rear support for the butt and between the power and the wind, it's quite the challenge at triple digits.
@@TH-cam_Globetrotter in some aspects, yes. The KTM has better electronics and is more agile. The Speed has more... speed, and it's a more substantial machine overall. Can't go wrong with either, I'm really enjoying the Speed despite its minor flaws.
Terrific vid brother, picked up a 1200 RS recently but still kept my 890r. I am curious if you ran the 890 at the same track and what was your best time? I still haven’t tracked the 1200 RS, but the 890 is a riot to ride especially after the front cartridges were swapped out for K-tech. Truly enjoy your channel 👏
Never ran the 890 at COTA, though it would certainly do well. I think the Speed Triple would still get better times due to the very long straights, but everywhere else it would come down to rider skill. I do miss the 890, wish I could've kept mine.
@@CubanRider Fair assessment, the long straights is the 890’s Achilles for sure. Hey, if you ever ride the Northeast tracks you can have a spin on it again in my backyard. Terrific channel congrats and looking forward to more content. Cheers
@@MrMotorider100 thanks man. The 890 is surprisingly fast even on the straights, ran a 11.1 on the quarter mile to the Speed Triple 10.6, and keep pulling pretty strongly past 145 mph. It's a shame I never ran it at COTA.
Thats are the rules of the every racetrack, if u have headlights or bigger turn signals u have tape it, so if u crash the glas from them would not go everywehre :)
I believe that you are gonna be even faster with the Speed, as you seem much more knowing of s1000XR, and a bit sloppier with the Speed e.g. the S1000XR you properly ring it out on the straights, whereas with Speed you are short shifting a bit. Also, with the XR you seem more planted on corner exit, whereas with the Speed you seem to be fighting a bit the bike on exit. I'm thinking sub-2:25 easy. This was my second session of the day, then had to park it due to some coolant issues. Had it ridden it all day long, I would've gone much quicker on it.
