Another classic BBRS Production. Great tips & love the .325 chain. Use it on two saws because it keeps the RPM higher when buried in the cut = faster cutting in spite of the smaller chip size.

started camping alot more and more serious this year and was lookin for a way to process firewood hummin and hawing over what saw to get, i come across an old free chainsaw looked rough, also have never held one before. it was an old mac110. again super new to saws, but no stranger at all to pullin wrenches on two strokes, sleds bikes etc, get this saw home dusted off the saw dribbled some fuel into carb. one pull it burgled and smoked for a sec. now that i see and smell that im semi aroused and start peeling this saw apart. fuel line was split and rotten replaced the line cleaned engine off looked ok from what i could see cleaned the fly wheel with a lil emory cloth, cleaned all the covers slide it back together add fuel bar oil. took a bit to tune it , one - two pulls runs and idles now, sharpened what was left of the chain, (a friend helped teach me how to sharpen it, after he laughed his bag off at how worn this chain was). now im eager to cut, not gonna wait for air filter to show up in mail. im gone camping fell a few trees, cut rounds and sloppily split it up with axe, ran two tanks of bar oil through it, sharpened chain a bit more. I seems to cut very nice for what it is and what ive seen on youtube. but now the chain..ugh i wish i could post a pic of it. but anyways. 14 inch bar, and wondering if it would take a 16" bar. I also apologize for this giant word salad if anyone happens to read it all

Gooood Video! Billy, I've been mounting bars that way for 45 years. You were taught correctly. Only difference is I lift up on the tip while tightening bar nuts. Same diff as lifting up on the rear handle. The reason we do this is because when we are fellin or Buckin, the bar pushes against the tree and if we snug it up correctly, the bar will not move under the nuts. If the bar moves, the chain will tighten up too much. Save a sprocket.... don't leave your bar hanging while tightening the bar nuts. HEY! Can you reply to my comments yet? I changed some settings, but can't figure out what privacy setting is wrong.

Gday Buckin, on the old Mac 10-10 manual oiler only saws do you know if theure meant to have that metal shim between the saw and the bar like later models? I've got two that dont have them, not sure if its a problem.

Hi Buckin; Do you have a Mac power head where the bar adjuster is on the saw and not on the cover. I need a visual, look to see what the adjuster looks like. So I can replace it. I have an older mac. that has the adjuster piece missing. The screw is there but the adjuster is gone. I think they over torqued the cover to try and hold it in place and cracked it. It's a McCulloch 1-40. What size chain goes on that? Mine shows damage to the chain links. Would that make it to small or to big? It has a manual chain oilier. The bar say's it's a McCulloch welded tip bar. the chain has 3's on the sprocket side, and Canad just under the gullet.

    Billy
    I got a ‘59 1-40
Runs strong but the stock bar and power head has TWO chain tensioners
    YES,TWO
ONE ON COVER and a fat screw head that fits in a dimple on the bar on the powerhead side
This makes getting even a newer Mac bar tough any ideas why? What it’s called? Can it be eliminated? ( I don’t want to eliminate it)
    Currently a 24 “ bar but seen up to a 32-34” bar on a 1-40
Maybe they milled out a dimple?
    Anybody got any Thoughts?

A bit verby but I did get facts that I needed. Namely, that the cover installation is a somewhat delicate thing. Seemed to me that since it is done so often it would be more fool proof. I had an earlier Mcculloch which I was able to install easier for some reason, but on that one I crocked the adjustment guide hole tightening when it was wrong. But that one also has no oiler ( stripped) and I wore out rthe chain so it needs probably replacment. It did run though. This one I had to replace the fuel lines and filter but expect it will run and is complete and has a veryt new brand new chain. So, if the chain is tghe right one I'll be in good shape.
But I think I was thrown off by expecting that black peg at the front lower corner to go right up to the housing. But apparently it doesn't. But I have the chain on and it adjusts so I guess that is the whole enchilada. Thanks for entertainment AND instruct ion.

I own a husky 346 and I tried to lift the bar up as Iv seen so many times before and there is so little space for the bar to move I just put it all together and just before I get ready to tighten the cover up I check to see if the bar has slipped and most of the time it has not and wango bango I tighten up the nuts and I'm good to go thanks BBR.

You say you are running .325 sprocket and chain so is the bar .325 as well? If so where have you got such a big .325 bar from I can only get up to 20" in the UK.
