    How much fun would this be? ALOT OF FUN! We don't need to destroy a museum piece, just exercise it safely on the racetrack.

    Understandably processional. People don't take surviving Spitfires up to dogfight. Nice to see and hear these beauties taken out for a run.

    Saw a Can Am Shadow horrifically crash here a few years during this event. It's crazy how some commenters are being critical of how these cars are not being pushed. I can't believe McLaren lets their CEO turn laps in a Can Am car.

      I heard about this crash, can you tell me what happened? Was it a brother team?

      I think Zak may own that car. I know he has a big collection. Also Zak was a very good racing driver when younger.

      I don't know the details of the Shadow incident, but It's apparent to me that most of these cars aren't being pushed, not to the absolute limits that they were raced in their heyday. You can tell the corners are being taken more slowly just by hearing the engine note drop off to nearly nothing. Not to mention the lack of power slides at the end of the turns. You'd see that almost constantly back in the day. Compare this to vintage racing videos. There are a few on YT.

    The 1970 McLaren M8D is a masterpiece of design, and timeless in its beauty.

    I loved the MacLaren Can-Am cars the shape the exhaust note from the BB Chevy, the stance and actually how small they were

    I wouldn't call this racing. More of nice Saturday afternoon cruise around the track. I did see this car race at Road America with Gurney back in the day. The Can-Am series really was the glory days of motorsports !

    • @christophernoto
      @christophernoto ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I thoroughly agree! The only real historic racing that I’ve seen, where classic, sometimes fabulously valuable, race cars are driven “in anger,” happens at the annual Goodwood Revival.

    • @beyond_the_infinite2098
      @beyond_the_infinite2098 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Historics are not racing, they are speed exhibitions. No one in their right mind would actually race one of these invaluable non-replaceable fine pieces of history and crash it. Some of the more experienced drivers push a bit faster, but Zak is doing a good job. If you have ever race or gone for a ride you'd know he's going fast.

    • @philipgrice1026
      @philipgrice1026 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@beyond_the_infinite2098 Nah. He's just crusin'. If anyone is in a position to restore any damage he might cause it would be Zak. I thought he was just out shopping for a burger and fries. I'm older than he is and I'd have been pushing the car car harder in his seat given the opportunity. And yes, I have raced up to F2 and a GT40 waay back in the day and drive a Lotus Europa for fun.

      @@philipgrice1026 I'm envious - you had the experience I dreamed of since I was 15 back in 70 and attended my first race at Laguna. My racing was mostly down the canyon roads. I went to a few private and SCCA schools and then autocrossed and tracked my C3 and now with my Z28. I'm still having fun HP driving.

      @philipgrice1026 Sounds like a good life to me. My 8th gen si has been pretty fun so far, but I’m missing the feeling I had in rwd cars, torque steer is fucking weird.

      If you want to see true racing of a similar type of car. Try and find video footage of Bruce McLaren at Mosport. Where he started at the back of the field, cut almost every corner, numerous times and went on to win the race.
      This model McLaren car in the above video was the model that Bruce McLaren was killed in while testing the car at Goodwood, UK
