I love the room that slide-outs give an RV, but, every time I watch one of these videos of trying to fix one, I want to stay away from them! That said, my next RV will probably have one (or more), but at least now I know what to look for when checking it out prior to buying it. Thanks again!
I have learned a lot. I want to meet you sometime. You seem honest, concerned about quality repair and you are certainly knowledgeable. All rare qualities this day and age. Kudos! Thanks!
Your channel proves time and again that RV Repair is rarely, if ever, an exact science. Doing it right requires a tremendous work-ethic... and also, bunched-up carpet is another reason to rarely, if ever, use carpet in a coach 😂
Nice job, I am most amazed by your camera work, excellent! It still amazes me how poorly most rv's are made. Congratulations on the channel and thanks for sharing your knowledge.
So it looked like the unsecured edges of the carpet that wasn't removed dorked the slide alignment. Ouch. My RV has came with the vinyl floor from the factory. My 2018 Winnebago has some pretty nice rollers secured to the coach floor that the slide rolls on. Interesting to see how these things are put together. It's a shame there aren't after market adjustable rollers you could use rather than those fixed height carpeted slide blocks. Thanks for doing all the heavy lifting and the excellent video work and narration. I dread the day I have a problem with my full length slide. Motor homes seem to just self destruct every time you look at them sideways.
Love your videos, you are so innovative, if it doesn't work the first or second time, you will continue until you find the proper way to repair things. Great job and will be waiting for the third and you hope will be the last video. Say hi to Chad.
Being a builder and remodeler I don’t know how you can stand working in such a mess. A clean and neat worksite makes things so much easier and safer. Even more so in a small space.
You're correct. But getting the refrigerator, booths, pantry and everything that was in the cabinets outside is a very big job and would add a substaintial labor cost for very little gain.
Wish I could afford a nice motorhome just so I could hire you to work on it and make it right. Making the world a better place one roof ( or floor ) at a time.
Same things that happened to mine, the bunched up carpet messes the whole thing up. Was able to remove the wiper seal and pull it through with out removing the slide.
Seems like there should be some kind of a roller bearing for under these slideouts. Low profile, single direction. that would relieve a lot of the pressure off the mechanisms.
Great job! Can you tell me how to remove and replace the front slide hydraulic on a 1999 Winnebago, got the back one out , but seems like the front one needs to come out from the outside, maybe support the slide and then remove the support arm to access the hydraulic cylinder?
What you’ve done is very similar to the kitchen slide in my 2014 Keystone Cougar fifth wheel. Have a vinyl flooring and just a rub bar to ride on. Could you have installed the Lippert Rollers in place of the plastics you used? BTW I didn’t get around to installing the rollers this summer so maybe next year. 🤷♂️
Hi sure you get asked all the time for help but maybe have one you might be interested in.i just took over a jayco jflight from my sister.was a total wreck kids living in it for 4 years it's a 2017.a total train wreck been trying to do as much as I can the list never ends.it needs skylights slide has a slight leak surprise to you I know watch all your videos. Grounded short or something lights in both slides don't work.if your every in Florida let me know this one could make a whole you tube chapter it's self your the go to guy watching you gives me hope thanks for all you do
I know that feeling, way down deep, when it's not about making a buck anymore. I'm gonna bulldog this thing, and pin its ears to the ground if it's the last thing I do. My hat is off to you!
Customer asks: How much would you charge to change the carpet in my RV? Me: Well, by the time we remove the slide outs, replace the carpet and put the slides back...$$$$$$$ Customer looks at me like I am stupid. Thanks for showing everybody what they get when they change flooring in an RV for cheap.
How hard is it to replace the nylon guides for the slide? I have a 2000 winnebago adventurer and on one side the nylon guide is complete missing and partially missing on the other side. Could I use Jack's to raise the slide and install the new guides?
You prob have finished already but would the weight of all the interior bits like refrigerator and other things put enough load on that to suck in that top a bit?
It's a noble effort. It's hard to know which cluster-#$% design feature caused it or how much the slide-out or chassis opening changed shape over time. I assume leaving it as is increases risk of water leak/damage.
James you really know what your doing! Also did you get the client to actually sign something that there’s no guarantee on the slide scratching the floor? Thanks for sharing
Wow what a job. That’s no Harry homeowner job. Unless you got a couple forklifts around 😂. Seems weird they don’t make any adjustment points on slide outs to compensate for fit and finish. My big take away point is don’t get a slide out….or at least stick with a small one. The saga continues……
Many years from now every slide you repaired will be still intact, all by itself. Well done James.
LOL...

Always good to know what to look for

Thanks!
It takes a lot of knowledge and tools to perform a feat like this, for which James has BOTH!!
Thanks for watching!

Thanks Phil!
Outstanding job once again. Thanks for the education.

Excellent work James, learned a lot, enjoyed your talent.......

I assume part 3 to follow? Seems like a lot of work. I'm glad you are so methodical. Slow and steady wins the race.
Thanks for watching!
Wow!!! Slides are really allot of work when they go bad!!
They sure are
Looking forward to part 3 Mr. Slide out!!!
Thanks for watching!
Oh, dear. Makes me long for the days of those pesky roofs!
lol Hey, Thanks for watching! :)

Just a tip... One way to help from screws backing out... Wood glue.
Stopped by and checked out that country coach on Cassones lot last Sunday.
Excellent
Same things that happened to mine, the bunched up carpet messes the whole thing up. Was able to remove the wiper seal and pull it through with out removing the slide.
Oh my! What a pain that is! I hope the owners plan on keeping it for a while!

I did my corner bottoms with aluminum angle and it does leave black marks on carpet, they would bind big time on laminate flooring

I can't tell if there's enough clearance inside the tube steel, but @13:36 would it be feasible to shim up the nylon in that one slide?
Did you do any thing to the right side arm that was not as smooth as the left side?

Hey, Thanks for watching! :) There has to be someone local who can help out
Have you tried adjusting the nuts at the end of the Ram to cause the bottom of the forward Ram to not pull in so far

THIS!!! I know the square footage is nothing to a good carpet/flooring installer but it's much more difficult in a RV.
@@AZExpert Absolutely
Would the added weight of putting the fridge and all back in not kick it in and down any more?
No

I would recommend you have a professional do it so you don't maim yourself or ruin your slide out.
You prob have finished already but would the weight of all the interior bits like refrigerator and other things put enough load on that to suck in that top a bit?
Nope
Slide outs are a great idea but everyone I know who has one has had a problem with them at some stage
Truth

Wouldn't the weight of the refrigerator on the floor pull that upper corner of the room in slightly ?
I think the bottom is tight to the skid
Looks like fun! Or not!
lol Thanks for watching!

I always do
James is there going to be a part 3
yes
Does this mean there is a part 3?
yes
Back to square one!

What is the name of the business you own or work for and where is it located
I'm in arizona. I work all over--I'm mobile

Hey, Thanks for watching! :)
Surprising they didn't use rollers instead of a carpeted slider.
Rollers would cause a host of other problems
You need to use a tripod for your camera, then you can use both hands and still record!
Doesnt work well.
Put rollers on it
Doesnt work like that unfortunately
Looks it needed shims
Shims dont work on something that needs to move like that
Adapt and overcome. Life in the world of no manuals and no engineering for mods your doing

Roof repairs or slide repairs…you sure know how to dampen anyone’s enthusiasm for RV ownership. Just sayin.
Reality is a cruel mistress
I don’t want one of those hillbilly coaches ,looks cheaply made
They all are cheaply made.
I’ll say again Not Fun !
it was not
Your sad face made me sad.
I'm sorry
