They're not so different in practice, but there's a fundamental difference in doctrine. I find this to make passages such as Matthew 3 (the baptism of Jesus) and Acts 7 (the stoning of Stephen) to make much more sense when we realize that the Trinity (or Godhead, as it's known in LDS terms) is three distinct beings with one united purpose.

I’m not quite sure what you’re getting at. Latter-Day Saints include the Bible in our scriptural canon, and we do believe that he is the Son of God.

To me it's like the gnostics because there was the Great Church where the apostles passed on the faith and there is apostolic succession in various churches that all agreed. And the gnostics were random people that sprung up unconnected to the people that actually knew Jesus that made claims of different faiths. This isn't true actually, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints teaches that everyone will have a fair shot at salvation, even if it comes after this life. We also don't believe in the traditional heaven/hell view. People baptized into the Catholic church will not suffer eternal damnation.
