    Shame on ANYone here or anywhere poking, proding at each other for what I deem are petty differences. I apologize for my past comments if they were rude.. The catholic pope and lds prophet got together as *brothers* united in helping this world in suffering. Not as enemies of contradicting faiths. They treated each other with *respect.* Not great contempt or resentment, even hostility as ridiculously seen with either Catholics or Lds once and a while. Lds and Catholics should behave, following the example of their top religious leaders who are clearly demonstrating LOVE to one another as Christ instructed to all.. I see neither pope or prophet bearing any ill will towards another. So Catholics and Lds might as well follow the example of their religious leaders they deem as the closest to God. I admit I've been aggressively opposed to my old catholic faith in the past. But what's just as precious to me now is people like my lds prophet and the pope treating each other kindly and working together like the equal children of God we've all been all along. No doubt God wills it. His kingdom come. His will be done. On Earth as it is in Heaven. 🙏🏼🤝🏼

    What is the 2001 ruling on the matter of the LDS understanding of the Trinity?

    • @JacobWHill
      @JacobWHill 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints recognizes God the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost as three distinct beings with one united purpose to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man.
      You might say it's the opposite of the Catholic/Protestant doctrine of the trinity, which states (in simplified terms) that God, Jesus, and the Holy Ghost are one being with three distinct aspects/personalities. They're not so different in practice, but there's a fundamental difference in doctrine.
      I find this to make passages such as Matthew 3 (the baptism of Jesus) and Acts 7 (the stoning of Stephen) to make much more sense when we realize that the Trinity (or Godhead, as it's known in LDS terms) is three distinct beings with one united purpose.

    • @franciscosamuel6926

      @@JacobWHill Your Icon doesn't look like a Mormon icon btw... You're confusing the Nature of God with Theophanies (apparitions) and that is why some say three beings but there is One God that manifest in three personal modes and sometimes also in apparitions in apparition bodies. Doesn't mean the Father and the Holy Spirit have such bodies as they appear in theophanies. Childish interpretation of Joseph Smith.

      @@franciscosamuel6926 Beautiful artwork created by faithful believers in Christ can be enjoyed by people of any and all religions. I personally chose this artwork of Matthew because, as a publican, Matthew was hated by all of his own kinsmen, but that didn't stop Jesus from seeing him for who he was and calling him to be an apostle. It's a beautiful story and full of meaning to me.
      Also, the idea of the trinity is a man-made concept conceived long after the church devolved into apostasy. I don't believe in your convoluted concepts of deity. Jesus Christ, God the Father, and the Holy Ghost are three separate entities, but one in purpose. To bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man.
      I can't convince you of anything, but maybe God can. Try reading the Book of Mormon and asking God if its true. That's how real truth is found, by the gentle whispers of the Holy Ghost.

    His Holiness needs to meet with the LDS leader in order to foster better relations, but the Church of Rome must never weaken its stand on issues like LDS retroactive baptism. My paternal grandparents would spin in their grave with the knowledge that they had been retractive baptized Mormon if that in fact should actually happen. The Pope should never yield on refusing to recognize retroactive LDS baptisms of Catholic dead, just as the Jewish people have successfully prevented retroactive baptism of their dead unless specifically allowed by a Jew who converts to LDS and so wants his forefathers baptized.

    Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints read and study a number of 'canonized' books of scripture including the Gospel principles taught in the Old and New Testaments of the Holy Bible (KJV) AND also Another Testament of Jesus Christ which is called the Book of Mormon. This book contains 15 separate books of scriptural accounts written over about 1,000 years by different prophets and historians. The writings were concerning our Heavenly Father's and Jesus Christ's dealings with the people who lived on the American continents (now known as North, Central and South America, 600 BC to 400 AD). God loves all of His children including those who lived on the other side of the world at that time too. So the Latter-day Saints don't limit the scriptural writings of the prophets and apostles who lived in the world to only the Holy land events recorded in the Bible or books that were originally selected by Catholics and other Christians at the Council of Nicaea to be included in the Bible that we have now. There are even some other inspired writings and scrolls (i.e. Dead Sea Scrolls and Nag Hammadi library which also testify of the Savior Jesus Christ). However, The Book of Mormon was translated directly from the historical gold metal plates by Joseph Smith in March 1830 in upstate New York. Smith shared his testimony that the prophet (Moroni) who last contributed to the work returned to earth as an angel and told him where to find the plates. This angel and other scribes then helped Smith translate the work by the gift and power of God from “reformed Egyptian” characters on the plates into English in an amazing time frame of only sixty-five working days (531 pages). Many witnesses saw and held the gold plates, evidenced by their written testimonies. Start your extended Gospel study by reading the entire Book of Mormon...you too can know in your heart of it's truthfulness by ultimately asking God himself for confirmation by the power of the Holy Spirit. (see James 1:5). You won't truly know how you feel about it until you actually read it. I bear my own witness that the Book of Mormon is a true and magnificent account of the Lord Jesus Christ and His Church and the people who lived anciently here in the Americas.
