that's exactly it. my neighbour once performed reiki on me because i was anxious depressed teen. it was all bs but the calm voice, scent of incense and ambient sounds helped me relax. she still believes in reiki which is sweet because her voice was really soothing and it helps others in an indirect harmless way.

I actually did a reki session, it was free, at the mall once. I actually did feel some warm energy coming from the "healer." It was very calming and relaxing. I actually thought about paying for a long session, not because I needed healing, it was just very relaxing.

Just a tiny tiny bit in her defense.. Some people actually get better by using placebos. The mind is special. A lot of physical problems can be caused by the psychological problems a person has. If this makes them relax and believe that they feel better the tension in the body might decrease and that might help.
Oh ok lying is fine if it makes someone feel temporarily better and causes them to avoid actual effective treatment. Good to know!
It should be noted that a placebo largely make you FEEL better. It doesn't actually improve your health. A few studies in 2018 found that when a group of insomniacs took a placebo, it made them think they had a better sleep schedule but nothing had changed. This can be dangerous if they just stopped there and didn't decide to treat the actual problem.
Placebos work based on perception, they stop working when the issue isn't dependent on it.

A friend did some training in this type of healing. I wasn't interested but she kept offering me a short session (free) to see if it would help me feel better. Eventually I agreed - an unbeliever. Afterwards I felt so much better in myself which isn't explained by me having had a rest while sitting still. I didn't expect to feel any different.
The placebo effect should not be underestimated. It works better than some medications, and even has an effect when you know you're being given a placebo.
