I can understand why Jack is doing the movie. He tends to go for silly roles like this because kids like it and he likes kids (I think someone in his family likes Minecraft but I'm not sure). Otherwise, it probably should have been animated.
Minecraft movie should have been animated and more serious. The same could be said about Sonic. But both chose the safer route of making terrible live action movies with unwanted human characters and uncanny CGI abominations
From the looks of the trailer my theory for the story is that they almost want to go in the Dwayne Johnson jumanji route where kid finds blue cube either while playing mc or in his house, gets into the game along with his family/friends, meets jackblack Steve who is actually retired. Through flashback, we see Steve's adventures. All of them team up defeat the big bad and return to the normal/human world.
I honestly think the minecraft movie is going to pull a jumanji and have random people who turn into different people from getting sucked into the game
The actual Minecraft lore that would make a great movie is: Steve once built this place for other characters to thrive in and killed the Dragon, but the creatures in the Nether are planning to retaliate from what Steve did there and go back up, now the Characters have to save a post-Steve minecraft world in peril of getting invaded by Piglins
Personally, I don't think the visuals look that terrible in my opinion. Yeah I agree it should've been animated but if there's this one thing these recent video game movies have shown me, is that if it's a game that involves human characters in it, most definitely I think they're going to use live actors for the film adaptation because the likness of celebrities are what makes money these days. The Mario movie was animated because people (and I know Hollywood) are well aware of the 1993 version and know now that the Mario universe works better animated so that's why they went with that instead. I do think that maybe for some people the creature designs may grow on some people and maybe will have a similar reception to the FNAF movie. Some fans will love it, but general audiences will pass on it. I'm not that all bothered by this because in the past we already got movies like Pixels and Ready Player One that also have these similar looking visuals. And those are movies that involve video games! But it's all subjective in the end of the day.
True I think it’s really the mix of human characters with the Minecraft visuals. The actual world itself looks really good in my opinion. Until you see Jack black standing in it and it just throws everything off
I really don’t like to say this because I love Minecraft. It has been a part of my life for years now but everything in that trailer looks so cursed and ugly. I expected it to be different than the actual game in some way because it’s not animated but I’m really not happy how it turned out.
I just noticed thats shadows voice actor was refrenced by sonic in the 1st movie during sonic watching tom and maddie watching movies and sonic says keanu you are a national treasure
I feel like it's pretty unfair to compare the sonic 3 movie trailer when they seem to be completely different. Sonic movie designs are meant to be serious and look more natural. The minecraft definitely looks like the designs are meant to be silly and not to be taken seriously. Personally I think the world in the Minecraft movie looks beautiful. The animals I think look great. The problem I personally have is the blend of the human actors with the animals. So in conclusion i think the movie is just trying tohave fun while the sonic 3 movie is trying to be serious so I personally think sonic 3 movie trailer is definitely hurting this movie.
just realized the group of 4 have the same clothes as the group of 4 in Minecraft Story Mode (axel, the one person who's bigger than anyone else in the game, has the same stuff as Mamoa btw
Honestly the only hope this movie has is if Warner bros do the same thing paramount did and re-do all the designs and delay it it might have a higher chance of being decent
Like. If they wanted Life Action they should adapt the world and creatures to look realistic. That would take out the cubic identity. But being so cartoonish and fake makes the human actors stick out as a sore thumb.
people have to realize that the directors had 2d flat textures on 3d models with barely any animation to go off of. Now i do have to say that they could've based the models form the texture packs you can get or the minecraft irl videos that everyone used to watch in the 2010s
I'd argue that Minecraft DOES have a story and rules. The scapegoat here's the end credits, where 2 humans discuss the events of the game and some more nuanced (at least it attempts to be nuanced, it fails imo) topics, which could easily be the inspiration for the human integration in the film (this and the comics). The way mobs, the communities (villagers, pillagers, zombie pigmen) and some tidbits of environmental storytelling (sunken ships, underwater temples, the broken Ender Portals, desert ruins, all the Nether structures) flirt with a narrative that is to some degree deeper than what meets the eye. Same with certain mobs like wardens, ghasts and the black skeletons, I think you can very easily expand on that with some lore. And then of course there's the modern Minecraft tie-in media. The comics (unfortunately they exist and they SUCK, don't recommend), the books and most notably the 3 spin-off games, Minecraft: Story Mode, Minecraft Dungeons and Minecraft Legends. The spin-off games are surprisingly heavy on story and lore and the movies could have used that to their advantage.
I'm totally agree with you and I just watched the Minecraft Movie teaser, and I couldn’t be more disappointed. The decision to focus on four misfits instead of the iconic characters Steve and Alex feels like a huge misstep. A movie exploring their adventures and backstory would have been far more engaging and true to the essence of Minecraft. This direction misses the mark completely. 😒😕💔👎🏻
It would’ve been better if the animals were normal animals, and the fictional mobs were cg. They could’ve given it the Jumanji treatment and brought the fictional mobs to the real world and had a lot of action packed havoc and fun.
The Minecraft movie should’ve been animated, and Steve completely silent. It’s artstyle is 1 to 1 from the game, and the story is about Steve doing everything a player normally does on a playthrough (waking up, mining wood, taming a wolf, fighting the dragon).
What timeline are we in where there’s videos with millions of views recreating the beautifully made trailers and then when there’s actually a budget they do THIS 😭😭
I wonder if my little brother will gonna watch this😢 he's 6 and Idk his reaction because he might shout or get scared due to animations idunno I'm hype for Sonic 3 🎉
You know what would’ve made for an interesting TV adaptation base on Minecraft, the game where you can do whatever you want? And animated anthology series.
They should have made the humans blocky similar to the mobs or have the mobs look realistic. Use realistic animal models for the real-life animals and use a stylised fantasy style similar to Fire Emblem for the Piglins and Zombies if they want to go the non-cubical look. You cannot have both aesthetics.
I feel like the plot of the movie is probably about creativity which I think makes sense considering the big point of the game is all about expressing your creativity and all that.
@blue-cloud-studios I mean that's not so different from the Mario Movie. There was barely any story there and was basically just fan service the movie. Not saying it was bad but basically asking what's difference besides one is animated and one is live action. Cuz if that Minecraft movie trailer was the exact same but fully animated in the minecraft style I can 100% bet yall would be loving it.
@mr.monkey354 what makes the Mario Movie a good adaptation though. Like Luigi is barely Luigi in that movie. Mario's more of the scared one than he is. Even Bowser is more Jack Black than Bowser. And we know how Bowser acts as the RPG games exist. Like as a Donkey Kong Country fan I can tell ya right off the bat none of the Kong stuff in that movie is accurate at all to the DK lore, and that would be fine but that part of the Movie just feels so half baked. Like literally you could remove the Kongs from the movie and nothing would change. Same with Toad. Ya he helps Mario find the Mushroom Kingdom and get into the castle but after that he does nothing. Like I love that movie but even I can admit it's not accurate or great in the grandscream of things. And I'm not saying the Minecraft movie is going to be peak cinema. Probably gonna be mid at best. But saying it's just fan service when those "fan service" elements are a huge part of the gameplay of Minecraft is just stuipid. Like how do you make a minecraft movie with out crafting tables and Creepers. It's impossible. Like the Mario Movie had the Kongs and Mario Kart but do you really need those to make a Mario Movie? No you do not because the characters should be able to hold the story together. Not the elements in it.
The minecraft movie is making the same mistake as the OG mario movie, it's trying to make a game that is impossible to be realistic into a real life scenario, i still have Nightmares from the OG bowser adaptations 😭😭😭, the reason the sonic movie worked IRL because we've seen sonic with humans before, we know his height how he acts, his lore and alot of his games have him in humain urban areas like station square or escape from the city, minecraft is meant to be blocky and i hate how they are mixing animation with realism because that sheep looks absolutely cursed especially in a vibrant blocky place, the minecraft world itself looks stunning but having real humans and other things just doesn't look right, writing matters but animation basically matters more, the mario movie is an example, it's one of the most simple straight foward movies ever yet it still gets the job done the characters writing isn't horrible but it's definitely not good the characters don't display much emotion but the job still gets done
I think there are movie execs who mistakenly believe that video game movies are the new comic book movies. They didn't understand that the MCU did not reach the insane level of success that it did, because people suddenly got rock hard for comic book characters. It was because the movies were good movies that just happened to be about comic book characters. It's the same thing with the successful video game adaptations. All of them focused on being a good movie or a good show, and didn't really rely on name recognition for success. People don't _want_ video game movies. They want _good_ movies. If those good movies are adaptations, well, fine. But no one's going to go see a crap Minecraft movie just because it's Minecraft. I think we're in for a bunch of poorly thought through video game adaptations that mostly annoy and alienate people.
For the love of god STOP SAYING IT SHOULD BE ANIMATED the movie is 80% cgi and the only problem is that the humans don’t fit, the mobs are fucking hideous, and they treat it like a total joke
This is so sad. Not the movie, but that its being received so badly. I expect it to be amazing and if the script is good it will only be praised. This is just a teaser.
If it feels like they had a lot of stumbles and changes for 90 percent of the making of the movie and near the end, they saw Sonic and mario and were like, yep were just gonna go with this
Sonic and Sonic 2 were just about the only game adaptations that weren't shit. Fallout was actual slop that I feel like the world is attempting to gaslight me into thinking it was good. TLOU was already a painfully mid game that didn't deserve a show. Mario could have been good if they had voice actors that matched the characters. All of this shit is just so tiring

I can understand why Jack is doing the movie. He tends to go for silly roles like this because kids like it and he likes kids (I think someone in his family likes Minecraft but I'm not sure). Otherwise, it probably should have been animated.
Sonic movie 3 is good
Minecraft movie should have been animated and more serious. The same could be said about Sonic.
But both chose the safer route of making terrible live action movies with unwanted human characters and uncanny CGI abominations
What is with the TH-cam green screen quality for this film…. 😂
The trailer looks so cheap..
Why is it live action? Have they not seen any minecraft videos on youtube or the minecraft story mode movies?
Did they even look at the GAME 💀
Man we owe the Original Super Mario Bros Movie a apology
Fuck it lol 💀
You mean the second one? The first one was an anime.
@@Josue_S_6411 the live action one lol
@@Chunkydededethat's what he's talking about
From the looks of the trailer my theory for the story is that they almost want to go in the Dwayne Johnson jumanji route where kid finds blue cube either while playing mc or in his house, gets into the game along with his family/friends, meets jackblack Steve who is actually retired. Through flashback, we see Steve's adventures. All of them team up defeat the big bad and return to the normal/human world.
I honestly think the minecraft movie is going to pull a jumanji and have random people who turn into different people from getting sucked into the game
I think it’s a dream come true
More like a nightmare.
@@Enigma_toons I don't know. This looks horrible. 🫠🫠🫠
I was always hoping for a Minecraft movie even tho it looks kinda off
The actual Minecraft lore that would make a great movie is: Steve once built this place for other characters to thrive in and killed the Dragon, but the creatures in the Nether are planning to retaliate from what Steve did there and go back up, now the Characters have to save a post-Steve minecraft world in peril of getting invaded by Piglins
I mean, this is coming from a guy that meat rides Sonic and still says the Mario movie is worse than Sonic 1.
It's easier to put a few Sonic characters in the real world, whereas it's complete hell to make an entire world fit with the real world.
Until you see Jack black standing in it and it just throws everything off
TH-camrs have been making amazing Minecraft animation for 8 years now.
Why not give those a lot of money and ask them to make a 2 hour animation?
I’m not a Minecraft fan but those animals look like things nightmares are made from 😬🫦😱
Instead of the humans, they could have had Alex instead. That way she found steve and teamed up with him.
I really don’t like to say this because I love Minecraft. It has been a part of my life for years now but everything in that trailer looks so cursed and ugly. I expected it to be different than the actual game in some way because it’s not animated but I’m really not happy how it turned out.
Can't wait for someone to remake this movie in animation form like the minecraft trailers
The movie trailers needs SOOOOOOO MUCH IMPROVED STEVE DOESN'T HAVE A BEARD THE LLAMA AT THE END LOOKS LIKE IT DISLOCATED AND POPPED ITS JAW BACK IN
Fun fact: steve actually have a beard
And their is WAY TO MUCH CGI
Yeah, why bother with live-action if you're just gonna use a lot of CGI anyway? It's the problem with the Lion King remake all over again!
I just noticed thats shadows voice actor was refrenced by sonic in the 1st movie during sonic watching tom and maddie watching movies and sonic says keanu you are a national treasure
As a wise TH-camr once said…”they need to sonify the Minecraft movie”
Exactly, this guy says it’s bad for the wrong reasons
It just looks bad, the mobs aren't made for live action. Making them live action creates unholy abominations.
@@nazomius7033 he never said it was bad, he only said it LOOKS bad.
@@Hakuta925 It’s only bad cuz they put celebrities in there instead of animating characters. Besides that, everything else looks solid
just realized the group of 4 have the same clothes as the group of 4 in Minecraft Story Mode (axel, the one person who's bigger than anyone else in the game, has the same stuff as Mamoa btw
Jack black be collecting video game movies like the infinity stones. Also I think this movie would of been better if it was animated
I... Am Steve!!!
We will probably see him in the Tetris, Zelda, and GTA movies in the near future.
Bro forgot to say the five night's at freddy's movie.
7:40 😅
Honestly the only hope this movie has is if Warner bros do the same thing paramount did and re-do all the designs and delay it it might have a higher chance of being decent
If the Minecraft movie was animated it must be animanted like the trailers
I almost liked it but the mobs ruined it
@@zachpro5475 so did how they didn’t animate it
How though? The mobs were meant to be silly
I haven’t actually played Minecraft dungeons, but when this kind of be Minecraft dungeons instead of Minecraft
So what a good storyteller can make that work, we have Lego movies that have been successes for god sake.
This looks like a smosh skit
The Minecraft movie should’ve been animated, and Steve completely silent. It’s artstyle is 1 to 1 from the game, and the story is about Steve doing everything a player normally does on a playthrough (waking up, mining wood, taming a wolf, fighting the dragon).
What timeline are we in where there’s videos with millions of views recreating the beautifully made trailers and then when there’s actually a budget they do THIS 😭😭
Look they have bean working on this for 10yrs so be grateful
I wonder if my little brother will gonna watch this😢 he's 6 and Idk his reaction because he might shout or get scared due to animations idunno
I'm hype for Sonic 3 🎉
You know what would’ve made for an interesting TV adaptation base on Minecraft, the game where you can do whatever you want? And animated anthology series.
They should have made the humans blocky similar to the mobs or have the mobs look realistic. Use realistic animal models for the real-life animals and use a stylised fantasy style similar to Fire Emblem for the Piglins and Zombies if they want to go the non-cubical look. You cannot have both aesthetics.
minecraft story mode doesn't look so bad now huh haters?
I feel like the plot of the movie is probably about creativity which I think makes sense considering the big point of the game is all about expressing your creativity and all that.
what's the point of a movie then it now just sounds like an overly expensive ad to market Minecraft
@@greensoda123good adaptation doesn't equal fan-service the movie
"It could still be good, right?" No.
This deserves to be received badly. Minecraft deserved better than this from it's movie.
the first video I actually hit dislike on was the minecraft movie trailer
If it feels like they had a lot of stumbles and changes for 90 percent of the making of the movie and near the end, they saw Sonic and mario and were like, yep were just gonna go with this
Sonic and Sonic 2 were just about the only game adaptations that weren't shit. Fallout was actual slop that I feel like the world is attempting to gaslight me into thinking it was good. TLOU was already a painfully mid game that didn't deserve a show. Mario could have been good if they had voice actors that matched the characters. All of this shit is just so tiring
