I remember reading about macllravey in sports illustrated just before the national championships, and I made sure I was home to watch this match. I sat jaw-dropped as I saw this underdog from Illinois pull off a vision quest-win on national television to become national champion in what I’m guessing what his last match. That ladies and gentlemen is what dreams are made of.
BIASED announcer was ALL IN for Mcilravy > spent the whole match bragging the greatness of Iowa Hawkeyes as Marianetti steadily piled up 13 points from beginning to end. He got the 1st two takedowns and the last 2 as well. But the announcer was basically announcing Mcillravy as winning the entire match. Unbelievable
Marianetti wanted it more simple as that. he kept his head on his shoulders v.s a hostile crowd and a 150 pound iowa monster. in the end one man dug deeper and came out on top when it mattered. all in all a truly great wrestling match. EM
The whole time the announcers are acting like McIlravy has the match under control. He doesn't. He gets beat whistle to whistle (hm, Brent Metcalf anyone)
Well I feel like when your a national champion, especially as dominant as Mcilravy, they try to make it sound like they’re controlling it no matter what, but you have a point. But we all have our bad days. I think we all know Mcilravy could’ve beaten Marienetti, but he wasn’t himself for the first 2 periods and when he tried to come back, he was too far back to make a comeback
Refs always prematurely hit Iowa opponents for stalling. Refs always gave Iowa the opportunity to let wreslters go while they had control of the head or arm to re-shoot. Which means it was not an escape that allowed Iowa to just continue to score.
okay, first: god is in the details and mother is the name of god on every child's lips. brass tacks; we musn't allow this simple sloth dictate our work, to the books, gentleman - correct spelling: "Lincoln McIlravy" and "Steve Marianetti" (but the US Post Office does accept "Stephen", so i grudgingly, will too.) as for "the first takedown call in the 3rd" being "shitty" comment? son, it's about exhibiting control, which was demonstrated, good enough for the NCAA, and us too.
Lincoln was my fav wrestler

Steve Marianeti went on to a Pan AM Gold in 1997 and a US Open Championship in 1998.
One of the greatest wrestling upsets in NCAA history. 💀🔥

Heck of a match by Marianetti.
Marianetti looked like he had 2 weight classes on mcilravy
Man, doesn't matter what the refs did, Mac got handled this day. Marianetti is a freaking big ass guy for this weight.

Listening to those two fools make an attempt at unbiased broadcasting is intolerable
.

Marianetti is amazing
Another great match.
I plan to go to Illinois
Did you go?
Well?
These two fools never give the underdog a chance.
Hmmm no points at all at 6:10?
I think he did the right thing by not going for a hail mary throw at the end and landing on his back. He kept his dignity in spit of the loss.
the calls were legit, I would have made the same.
Considering that McIlravy was gifted the title his freshman year, I am totally okay with the way this turned out.
The same weight class ? Rly ?
Lincoln should have won
Why?
WTF?
One leg = a takedown?
What planet was this match from?
His record is 74-2-7? Seven ties?
Thomas, there used to be ties in wrestling
Dan Spilde beat him.

he went to high school!
...didnt they all?
