    You can try a pasta strainer in the glass bowl to rinse the fish and then just rotate the strainer so it doesn't touch the fish.

      @@LRBaquatics Ironically I had a koi fish jump out after writing this and found it covered with dirt and some ants around twenty minutes after the fact. Amazingly one of the neighborhood cats walked through backyard and missed it. There was some life in it and I put it in the water trying to revive it with some assisted swimming. There was some reasonable recovery given twenty minutes out of the water, but expect the lowered oxygen and slime coat damage may have been too much. I didn't see it floating yesterday, but think infection might get it. So fish can initially survive a bit of time out of the water.

    LRB spoon battle w/ jumpy fish... Glad you had a screen in that sink. 😅😂✌️
    Question; in my natural light tanks I just had a wintertime bloom of cyanobacteria. Only in the substrate. One tank is soil capped with sand and the other two are UNS ControSoil and ADA Amazonia. The cyano is only in the substrate, only on the side of tank that gets direct light. Should I be worried about it? They're natural light tanks so I would have a heck of a time trying to black out the tank, which seems to be the only non chemical way to deal w/ cyano. Do you think it will work itself out? Or?
    🙏✌️

    • @LRBaquatics

      You definitely should try to get rid of it before it becomes more. Chemi clean makes something for it and Erythromycin works good to get rid of it.

    • @laurabustos6560

    Hi Lucas! Been following you for a while now and considering going filterless on my 75 gallon. The tank has CPD’s, pgymy cories & cherry shrimp. My main concern is that at night the temp of the aquarium can get around 68-70 degrees. Should i be concerned about that long term for the fish?

    • @LRBaquatics

      Should be fine. 68 is more on the low side for cories and Pygmy but if they warm up during the day it shouldn’t be a problem. CPDs do prefer it warmer though. If they are fine with those temps already that’s good. Going filterless won’t make a difference either way with the temps. They will be fine.

    • @OldFashionWhiskey

      @@LRBaquatics I mentioned the temp because thats how low it would get if i took my lids off the tank. I dont run a heater but right now my light and lids are keeping the tank between 74-76 with a small internal filter. I know you say we have to becareful with lids and going filterless.

    • @LRBaquatics

    Lucas, I am also on well water. It's high in iron but the filter removes most of it... But I noticed there is a lot of mineral build up around the top of my tank. Is that from the well water or the salt I add for the betta? And do you have any suggestions? I am going to start guppies and I want them to be super happy and beautiful! Thanks! Love your new fish!! Happy days. 💚💙💚

    • @LRBaquatics

      Probably a combination of both. High mineral water creates scaling which isn’t an issue for most all fish but is a bit more maintenance.

    When I was a store manager at a fish store, the orders from asia had the most putrid water. They would put loose carbon pellets in the bag instead of zeolite to try and combat the ammonia and smell. It literally looked and smelled like sewer water. I was actually concerned for my health when I worked there. South america? No problem. Nice clean water and good parameters. Except wild altums would come and the ph was so low it was like 4.

    • @LRBaquatics

      Hmm guess we will find out when they grow and put them in a tank where I can see them.

    • @kmingtam

      @@LRBaquaticsyea, not easy with eartheaters, best to let them grow up and evaluate. some details on the identification: G. winemilleri has four stress bars, so that already rules out the specimens you received. if you pause at 10:07, the two fish above are likely G. cf. abalios or some closely related sub-species, and the larger fish below is G. dicrozoster (mid-lateral point on the third stress bar, with the fourth stress bar being only half the body height, looking like a small triangle ending above the lateral line). this fish is on the left at 10:35, showing its opercular marking and confirming it being G. dicrozoster. misidentification is common with eartheaters, especially for small specimens, and often it is unintentional. great fish nonetheless, i thought you only did small species, good to see some eartheaters.

    • @kmingtam

      @@LRBaquatics hybridization is possible but rather rare, i have known a handful of cases, usually unintentional. fortunately a lot of the mass breeding practices i disagree with have not reached eartheaters, hopefully they never will. i have kept fish for many years, with eartheaters as the focus, i was just not very active on social media until more recently. if not for the eartheaters i probably would not have commented lol…
