Favorite part about this is at 00:19 where there is a post-it that says "Fish" on an aquarium.

Its really sad to think how many unique species have been lost because they live in such narrow ranges. Like you said, a farmer uses too much fertilizer, and an entire species gone before they're even recorded. I really admire the work these guys do.

Farmers are the least of the worry's, loom into the govt, they killed more animals/humans over anything combined

@@Autismnerd89 farmers absolutely are not the "least of their worries". Overuse of pesticide and fertilizers are one of the biggest threats facing aquatic habitats in agricultural states. Without government intervention, farmers will keep doing this because they don't give a damn about the natural ecosystem in the face of their profit margins.

I love darters! The way they look around and observe things is like no other fish. The ones in this video were so pretty as well!

I still have no idea why the algorithm showed me your channel but I’m so glad that it did. Your contents always so interesting and educational I really enjoy everything you post. You make me want to set up a freshwater tank in my apartment, I think my cat would love to watch it as much as I would. I want to set aside a little money first so I can do everything properly, maybe I’ll even try to keep something native to the northeast where I’m from. Thanks as always Cow Turtle :)

    Great video really interesting!
How are they able to avoid inbreeding if the wild populations are very low ? Is there enough diversity in the gene pool to keep the fish going for futuregenerations without health issues ?
If anyone has any knowledge or information on this I would love to know!

the shiners and chubs looked whimsically colorful. Wonder what theyd look like under a full moon in a few inches deep water.

In your eel pit you should put a flat head in it that would be really cool.

I did some thinking, why don't they introduce these to the pet trade and make breeding stratgies public to ensure if they do get wiped out in the wild they will always stay alive, similar to the axolotl .

I totally agree with your comment about why don’t more people keep darter fish. I’ve been keeping daughters for years and they’re so beautiful and other than clean oxygen and water, they’re not that difficult to take care of…

The bluemask darter looks like a tiny mudskipper. Are they known to breath air too? All the fish you have shown are beautiful and its really does hurt my heart that humans are making more and more animal go extinct. Anyway, I also love your eel pit vids. Its a very cool thing to have such big fish.

Is there scope for commercial retail of these fish? It seems that one way to help a species survive is to make it a sought-after product.

I think they should reintroduce a lot of these limited-range fish more widely in the local areas. no telling what their original range was before it all got scrambled and relictified by the ice ages.

@@CowTurtle i absolutely hate how secrecy is a major part of conservation and protection.
As someone who has a deep love for chelonia I find it frustrating when it comes to research. Especially when it's on tight localities, if localities aren't understood or researched enough than you can lose alot to integration.
