Ime mentally intensive work is taxing a different way than physical, and at a certain point some people get better roi or even more work done under the curve with less time exerted, as often the extra time goes into socializing, or low efficiency work. Being at home also lets employees balance their lives more easily and effectively + as needed do small tasks out in the world that can be done more efficiently as most businesses as well as transit is less crowded, plus it cuts transit which is a good 2+ hours a day extra which at worst could be used sleeping and being more awake during the day. Admittedly being in office lowers the overhead for communication and helps the prosocial to be so, so a hybrid with cyclic or planned in office days would be best having tried all of fully in office, home and split at my digression.
Really though many of these people are high functioning, they should be allowed to be responsible for their own work output and accessibility, and to take the consequences should they be subpar as with anything else.

People who reply against remote working have no understanding of remote working and no awareness of the modern office environment. When you walk into a modern office, you just drove yourself to a location where you will be working remotely. You are not connecting to the thing that drives your business and if you do, your employees wish otherwise and/or you're a small or possibly a startup where you've made remote work impossible. The people who grow see the future and remote is the future. Remote is the way to expand your small business by hiring employees without that pesky word called overhead. We employed 100 people in an office costing nearly 2 million a year and now we are all remote working and on track for a higher bonus next year. Get a clue. Old real estate tycoons are the ones driving this message not the productive workers who can clearly see the benefits.

Working remotely is a special privilege earned by stellar employees. They all had the chance to prove they were more productive from home, but clearly failed this test…. Thus, get back here where you are supervised, monitored, and ordered to do your work. That’s what’s happening here. Every CEO I’ve talked to about this remote work results in all manner of losses for the company. They know who their best employees are (anywhere from 1-2.2% of all employees). They allow these people special privileges b/c they perform similar high levels w/out supervision.

Or maybe we get more work done because we aren't being bothered by office distractions.
Most tech companies posted record profits, record productivity, and time spent working during the pandemic shutdown and full remote work.
This is because people didn't have to commute and could just login after walking to their home office, weren't distracted by coworkers constantly walking by their desk talking about random stuff that isn't work related, and efficient workers can get their daily deliverables done faster than a full day and not have to pretend to be busy. Before anyone says how dare they not find extra work they could work as slow as everyone else but most companies aren't rewarding people for doing extra work and haven't for decades.
If you have trouble working remotely that's a you problem. If a coworker is remote and not getting their work done let them go.
Currently I'm required to drive into the office 3 days a week to work with a team that is in another country. So I have to drive into the office to functionally work remotely but from the office. Please explain how that helps anyone.
