I needed two-way lighting but couldn’t find any info. I even rang Tapo and all they said was that all their switches are one way. But I’ve cracked it!!! I used two S220: upstairs s220 left button wired to upstairs light; downstairs s220 left button wired to downstairs light. To achieve two-way you need to use the Automations:
#1 upstairs s220 right button is used to trigger an action to switch on/off the downstairs s220 left button.
#2 downstairs s220 right button is used to trigger an action to switch on/off the upstairs s220 left button.
And hey presto you have two-way lighting for both upstairs and downstairs.
For an additional intermediate lighting I added a smart button and added two more Automations:
#1 Single Click on button is used to trigger an action to switch on/off the downstairs s220 left button.
#2 Double Click on button is used to trigger an action to switch on/off the upstairs s220 left button.
The only downside is that the actions take a second to switch on the lighting but the wired switches are immediate.
I hope that helps somebody and will make an informative video, hint hint!

I'm using the S200D button and a H100 hub to control a bunch of Kasa smart plugs via a Smart Action in the Tapo app. It was all easy to set up but the button+hub isn't reliable for control. The button is supposed to turn all the smart plugs on or off each time I press it. But about 20% of the time I press it, at random some plugs don't turn on or off. But these same plugs are 100% reliably controlled when I use the Tapo app to either control them individually, or through a shortcut I created in that same app.

Hi Nice informative walkthrough of Tp link devices.
Thank you. I am thinking of having motion sensors and smart plug from Tapo.
is it possible to use in the following scenario?
    1. Govee Light strip plugged to Smart Plug from Tapo.
1a. Govee Light and smart plug are added to Google Home.
    2. Tapo Motion sensor together with Tapo hub are connected.
2a. Tapo motion sensor picks up the motion.
    3. Triggers the following automation in Google home
only applies between 10 PM - 7 AM
Motion detected--Turns on Smart Plug for 2 min.
Motion not detected--Turns off Smart plug Delay Action 4 min.

Hub is NOT required for plugs or bulbs. Tapo P110M Matter plug recommended as it works with Alexa, Google Home and Apple HomeKit. It's also more future proof than the P110.

And my question to you is, how do you get Siri to turn the lights off or turn the lights on when it comes to the magnets
I would like to know that as I am blind and I have been sitting half a day trying to understand this, and that’s easier said than done so if you can make a video upon how you connect the devices with Siri speech, I would appreciate it very much. Thank you in advance

  • @halopartiska2

thanks for a great tutorial video.
Question: Do I need to have the hub and contact sensor in a close distance so they are directly connected, or once they are paired they can communicate via wifi? The reason why I am asking is that I want to put the contact sensor on my garden house door and have the hub in my house to use it as alarm. Both premises are covered by wifi signal but they are around 40m apart so I dont think they would be able to connect directly.

    • @InsideWire
      @InsideWire  ปีที่แล้ว +1

You would need the hub close by, i would say you might be better with a second hub if there is a plug close by. You can still do all the automations and alerts within the app.

My use case is that I have various sensors from Hue and Eufy that I want to switch on an internal switch for 2 mins when the sensors detect motion.

Because the vast majority of house don't have a neutral wire in light switch box to power a smart switch. There are some single live wire smart switches on the market, but there are many compatibility issues, such as the lamps still light up and flicker after the lights are turned off. Using battery power avoids these problems.
