I'm a month in and this is pretty accurate, Despite the fact that TH-cam has a huge community of really great guitarists willing to teach people you get mostly extremes. First lessons are aplenty, lots of stuff to get you into playing guitar, and lots that have been playing for years and expect people to be able to just shred. Very little in-between that explain questions I have about music in general and music theory videos that don't cover even the most basic of things. This being said it's difficult to gage the skill level of your audience when teaching in a video format. You get a lot of how to play this song, but it really isn't how to play this song because it's 2 or 3 cords that are in the song and while it sounds like the song. I honestly ended up going to the music shop, a used bookstore and am talking with friends that I know have played for years. I will most likely try to find an actual teacher.
Man, this reminds me of my driving instructor like 10 years ago... very first driving lesson (already been through theory and videos) the car was parked and he started it and said, well, you know the theory, so now just do it! go! man, a huge truck passed by my side and I was already in fear, the car was stopped, there was a car in front of me also parked, there was traffic going by my left.. I had never sat in the drivers seat before in my life, never moved a steering wheel, and that idiot just wanted me to set the car in move, avoid the parked car in front of me, go in my lane, not crash cars in the opposite lane (or any lane), not kill any pedestrians or bikers, and not entering in panic even if it was the first time... I mean, cmon!!! you are paying an institution, people should do their very first driving day in empty streets, in empty places, avoiding plastic bins or whatever. I talked about this instructor idiot and it seems his boss gave him a talk, since that day I got a new instructor for the remaining 8 days or so. this one was better, more patient..
