The more mods I see - as much as I love several of the ideas and implementations, this being amongst my favourites - the more I marvel at how well LocalThunk balanced everything
To be fair, when you're making a mod, you're not trying to make it as balanced as possible or even necessarily fit in with the rest of the game, you're just trying to make something interesting and fun to try out. Plus, obvious ideas take up many of the slots of the base game, so modders have to make things that are more complicated, and thus, harder to balance.
@@dracoblizzard7944 But I'd argue that you should consider some semblance of balance if you are to ensure the longevity of your mod. In some old games I played (Sins of a Solar Empire, FTL), if the currently popular mod(s) are not balanced at all, especially for the former since it's multiplayer, they won't be as long-running as they are now. Granted Balatro isn't old enough for this to be considered, so we just wait.
Kind of a shame, these cards are so neat in that they're designed to be used mid blind to add some variety and focus to the playing part of balatro but that one busted joker rewards holding them and since they so often come in negative it rewards the boring hold every negative and win strat. But I really like them conceptually they do some interesting things
You can run the mods with the beta, was just doing a few rounds tonight. Just re-run the "steamodded" injector and it runs great. Salt is absolutely busted with the new version of the Edition tags.
For those curious, since I saw it come up in the video, most mods so far seem perfectly compatible with the beta branch! I suspect it should stay that way until they make a more major update
I think it is fine, I just think they didn't think about the combo with the voucher, otherwise as a rare it isn't tooo op, it would only combo hard with Perkeo, but then what doesn't
@@mathiassven Compare this to other xMult rare jokers (not Cavendish since banana is common and needs you to find another banana). The group of hand jokers can only give you mult on specific hand, and the strongest (x4) requires you to play 4 or 5 oak which is not trivial unless you tune your deck. License gives x3 if you have 16 enhancements. Hit the road requires discarded jacks, so it also tops at x3 without tuning. Baseball can give x5, but you need 4 other Uncommon jokers which is, well, uncommon. Even Campfire, one of the strongest Rares, needs you to cycle 8 consumables to reach x5 every ante, double that after the patch. This one gives you up to x5 for all hands by just gathering consumables, with no requirement to tune your deck nor restricting Joker choices, and the fact that Alch boosters put cards in your consumables instead of used directly like others doesn't help. This can even contend with some Legendaries, compare this with old Yorick, and consider the difference in difficulty between discarding 23 times and hoarding 4 consumables. It has 2 effects (which is already something Thunk would rather not do) and both are really strong. If it's just the mult it would have been pretty strong already.
I don't think the mult needs to be tuned down, I think it just needs to not give +2 consumables. If it didn't, it would give a max of x5 without negatives, x4 if you aren't relying on random voucher spawns at all, and x3 if you're playing a deck that doesn't start with 3 slots. There are only 2 real ways to get negative consumables in the mod: Perkeo and the voucher that gives negative Alchemy cards. I do think the spawn rate of negative Alchemy cards needs to be turned down, but even that still relies on getting the random spawn voucher in the first place.
I wonder if Catalyst Joker with a Perkeo engine to just get an obnoxious amount of Terras would have a healthy shot at getting to Ante 39. That's assuming multiple Terras can stack on a single Blind, anyway.
Hypothetically with this mod and the joker set up. If you polychromed one of those aces and then played it solo to proc DNA, would the duplicated become permanent polychrome copies? Just a thought I had

would really appreciate if you could say what every card/jokers do. instead of skimming over them, especially if your webcam is covering them! as i've found myself pausing on descriptions to figure out what's going on.
@@Stickbug37 No, but it *is* mostly irrelevant, though, when you're going for the late game - you basically have to build for a single hand type, so anything else is just fluff.

I believe there was an alchemy card that reduced the blind by 10x. I didn't do the math so I'm not sure it would have helped.

yeah you should uninstall the beta as these are patching the balatro lua archive (which is just a zip file of all the source code).
