    I left this morning to go buy a 2019 Mustang GT Performance Pack 1, and decided to drive this car before signing the paperwork. There’s a 2018 Camaro SS 1LE in my garage. Amazing car.

    Tip: When the trans locks you out of 2nd. go directly to 3rd instead of 4th. 4th gear will borderline lug if going to slow, 3rd at low speeds is a non issue and still good for gas mileage.

    The 1LE package is a pretty good deal. You get:
    -Cooling package
    -satin balck hood+splitter
    -LSD
    -magnetic ride
    -Forged wheels with wider Eagle F1 tires
    -Bigger brembos up front, 6 pot
    -Dual mode exhaust
    -recaros
    All of that for $6500. I'm pretty sure it'd probably add up to be more than that if you did it aftermarket or added them separately as options.

    Such a great review Matt. I've been on the fence with my next muscle car purchase. I love all of them and was a former owner of all three: The Camaro, The Mustang, and The Challenger. I love this model and option of this Camaro and for the money, it is one hell of a deal for the performance you get. Minus all the nuances, which all three brands have, I'm certainly leaning on getting the ILE; Waiting for 2018 SS ILE w/10 speed auto. They better put that option in there. Thanks for the review

      The 98-02 SS and WS6 was too much for the 05-09 Mustang. It took Ford 9 years to figure out how to beat GM's retired N/A pony cars without supercharging their Mustang. Good job.

      @natpeterson9735 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      BuilderBro9000 Lol if it weren't for the Mustang, the Camaro wouldn't even exist. If it weren't for the constant one-ups Ford throws out with the Mustang, the Camaro wouldn't be pushed so hard to match or be better. They are so closely matched that I would be perfectly content to own either. Instead of bashing the Mustang, you should appreciate their half-century rivalry that has kept both cars alive, and the enthusiasts/consumers entertained and satisfied. When it's all said and done, neither of them would be what they are today if it weren't for each other, and that is a fact.

      Firstly - I'm a Ford and Mustang guy - that said - if I had a gun to my head TODAY between the '17's I'd probably pick the Camaro if I wasn't going to be in the driver seat for hours on end - as Matt said the Camaro is a better car for the track and general hooliganism. If you want a nicer interior (personal preference) and with nicer materials then the Mustang is the way to go. Definitely drive both - and remember that as it gets closer to mid year here that Ford will be taking orders for the 2018's and current inventory might be down a bit but prices will also be better. I think you'll always get better discounts on the Chevy

      I'm a Mustang guy and took the 11-14 Mustang over the previous model Camaro, and would do it again 10 out of 10 times. That being said, if I had to choose between a 2017 Camaro and a 2017 Mustang, I'd probably lean toward the Camaro. Unless its a GT350 Mustang, that one trumps them all.
      I say this thinking that the 2017 Camaro is ugly. Problem is that I think the new Mustang's were a step down visually from the 11-14 Mustang's, and the new Camaro has taken back the top performer mantel. Price sucks for the Camaro, but if that's not an issue for you I'd have to lean towards the Camaro.

    In the beginning of the vid, that panel transition from the front quarter panel to the front bumper...... Doesn't look too smooth. However, for the money, the new V8 Camaro is hard to beat. The ZL-1 is around 65k and does 0-60 in 3.5s, qtr mile in 11.5s. pretty damn good.

    How are rev matching paddle shifters used with a manual transmission? I thought the rev match was either on or off similar to the 370z sync-rev match system?

      The Mustang II was a re-badged Ford Pinto. If you want to be technical, I guess you can call that a Mustang. It's a stretch. A Pinto. I'll just leave it at that.

    What was that part he glossed right over about not being able to shift from first to second?? I found this video because I'm looking to buy this car next and in all my life I've never driven a manual that I couldn't put it in whatever gear I wanted to. Does this aftermarket fix he mentioned void warranty? Why is this not a bigger deal?

    Definitely a great car. I only have one question as I don't think is was specifically stated. How in the world do the shift paddles work on a manual transmission? They were labeled "rev match." Do you have to activate that prior to every downshift? I'm just curious as to how it works? Thanks.

    • @johnwstruhar
      @johnwstruhar 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Steven Rhodes They are basically "on/off" for the active rev match. Hit the paddle once for on, then again for off. I have a 2016 1SS in the 6 speed. Once engaged, the car will blip the throttle on down shift. It is really effective if one isn't familiar with heel/toe shifting.

      Consistent Walkthroughs Just a feature they added really. I know that for the Corvettes both the manual and automatic versions have the Rev matching paddles, and they included them in the manual Corvette to save cost and not spend money making 2 different steering wheels, so I'm assuming Chevy did that with the Camaro as well

    • @Scotty_in_Ohio

      How so? If you're talking about overall performance then yes - Camaro has beat Ford for quite some time. I didn't buy my last two Mustangs to track them - if I had I'd of bought Camaros. I bought Mustangs as a "GT" car - I often drive for 5-6 hours without stopping - IMO the Mustang is a better choice for that. I will still look at Camaro when I'm ready to buy another car - I'm biased towards Ford but I'm willing to keep an open mind every time I buy...

    Two questions @subaruwrxfan.
    1. I know you say that the poor visibility isn't much of a deal breaker, but would you say that it's severely limited that it actually would make some people switch to a mustang GT?
    2. As the number of cars that initially come with the 1LE package are so few in the nation, could one buy the 1LE package separately on top of buying an Camaro SS earlier?

    • @MattMaranMotoring
      @MattMaranMotoring  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think if people test drive both and don't care about the maximum performance, the Camaro's visibility could sway someone to the Mustang. The 1LE package is a factory package so it although it could be retrofitted later if you really wanted, it would probably be much more expensive.
