    Swapping my 850 platinum from a 16t to a k24 was the best engine modification I've ever done. Coupled with the bosch green injectors, 4bar fpr, Forge cpv and wastegate, snabb intake and fmic and a tune by Va5t she not only pulls like a jet on takeoff but gets about 30mpg cruising on the interstate.

    Thanks for bringing this information forward. I have 2 P80 Turbos that have 200,000 miles on them. They seem to be performing well, but I am going to seriously look into them being rebuilt with the upgrades. Thanks for sharing your Volvo knowledge.

      Connect a temporary boost gauge so you can see if it's reaching proper boost pressure.

    Hey Robert - I'm always stoked to see one of your videos pop up when I do a search. Thanks for the great info, especially that you'd recommend not rebuilding these things yourself. I see all sorts of kits out there but also read that there is some balancing that is recommended and that seemed like something for a pro shop. When you said it's one of the things you leave to the pros, that sealed the deal for me too. Thanks again!

    Hi Robert! Another problem these old turbos can create is engine oil consumption, before rebuilding mine I got the inter cooler pipes full of oil and it was burning about 1L\1000 km, no shaft play at all, just a leaky seal. These oil leaks are specially dangerous on diesel engines, if the engine starts to feed on the oil coming from the turbo then you can end up with an engine runaway. Remember guys, look after your turbos!

    Great video bud. I was considering turbo upgrades for my xc70. Currently got the low comp.
    It broke my heart, the local junkyard had a t5 s60 I was going to grab the turbo out of that. Cause cheap and easy. They crushed it before I could get it. 😂
    Now keep my eye out for k24. We will ee what fate brings.

    i've heard when it comes to tuning though the 19t flows better than the k24 and has the potential to make more power but has had the reputation of bending rods if the tune isn't 100% spot. I know for a fact though the 19t is easier to buy and install on these p80/p2 volvos unless you are able to obtain a k24 from a junkyard.

    • @diltzm
      @diltzm 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm not sure who told you that but they are incorrect. The K24 flows ~100cfm more than a 19t. If you search the forums you can find the exact numbers and comparisons between a 18t, 19t, and K24.

    What kind of PSI gains can one expect by upgrading the turbines on a 16T? Namely going with MambaTek billet kits. Cost and performance effectiveness is it better to upgrade your 16T or to jump to a k24?

    • @RobertDIY
      @RobertDIY  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think cost is much different when changing the parts. PSI is relevant to your other mods. I know of people running 24+ PSI on their 16T. Cranking up the PSI just makes the turbo spin faster and wear out quicker. The key is to have a power gain target and communicate with your tuner based on that.
