    Thanks for a well done video! I have 3 of the 533 vornado fans & I appreciate how you explain where the screws are in relationship to the rest of the fan. It makes good sense & aids in alignment of the front fan shroud to the rest of the fan. It helps a lot. The Vornado sticker is parallel to the base (bottom of the stand) & the screws are roughly in the 9:05, 12 o’clock & 2:55 positions, & there is no screw in the 6 o’clock position. Thanks for an accurate explanation!

      I have a 753 and I Love it! It is really dirty and after viewing your video I now know how to take the grill off (lost my manual😞) and clean it so thank you so much for making this easy to follow video. Question: thought I remembered the fan needed a small amount of lubricant but you didn’t mention it. Am I confusing my Vornado with something else? Appreciate the help. Thank you.

    • @richardlloydusa
      @richardlloydusa  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They're supposed to have something called a permanently lubricated bearing so it should not need lubrication but all the bearing is a sleeve bearing with a copper coating of some type. If yours rotates freely I would not worry about it but if it looks tight or worn a little 3 in 1 oil wouldn't hurt. Thank you so much for commenting. I appreciate it greatly. All the best.👍😀

  • @AnnaAllEyesandEars
    @AnnaAllEyesandEars 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great video: thx Richard!
    fyi in manual in link provided on page re Cleaning & Maintenance it notes motor is permanently lubricated and required no oiling. Since found this video so long after created you may have another where you did so: if you think improves performance will check it out.
    Absolutely LOVE the Vornado circulators, use them all year!!

    • @richardlloydusa
      @richardlloydusa  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes the "Permanently lubricated" sleeve bearing...... Not a fan, but they are telling the truth but they do wear out and I am not sure if lubricating them does any good as they are sleeve bearings that are "oil Impregnated" and there's nothing to keep the lubrication in there. I wonder if they are a part you can buy from them? Love the fans as well. My new slogan for Vornado, "Often copied. Never better" LOL Thank you for watching and commenting. I appreciate it greatly. All the best.👍😀

    I don't know if you can help but I use my Vornado fan every night and it always works perfect, until it doesn't. It will randomly start making a ticking noise sounding almost like one of the blades is hitting the front grill. I have noticed that when it starts to do this that if I press on the front grill the ticking noise gets worse, again like a blade is tapping the grill. This doesn't happen all the time though and the only way to stop it is to turn the fan off for an extended period of time. I've tried banging on it while its running, shaking it, turning it upside down, on it's back , tilting it forward but it still making the ticking noise. I've taken it apart and it looks like nothing is hitting the blades, and if there was something you would think the ticking would happen at a higher rate but it doesn't. Do you have any idea what this could be? The model is the Vornado 560.

    • @richardlloydusa
      @richardlloydusa  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's very hard to diagnose the problem from here. I would suggest that you partially disassemble the fan, say take the grill cover off (understand the safety implications in doing this as the blades will be exposed. Make sure you have a safe environment to do this. No kids, pets or people who are not aware of what you are doing) Be Safe! And see which part is causing the sound. Also if the blade is hitting something there will be wear on the blade somewhere. Another possibility is a broken piece of plastic on the blade or stand and yet another could be the motor or it's mounting. There are multiple variables here. Thank you so much for watching, commenting and the valuable feedback. I appreciate it greatly. All the best.👍😀

    Thanks a million! It's been record breaking high temperatures all winter long here in Key West and my Vornado was so clogged up with thick dust that the blades wouldn't even turn. I followed your instructions on removing the cover, (which I then took outside and hosed down). I cleaned and scraped off the dust that was caked on the blades and smothering every nook and cranny. Aside from being great fans, Vornados are also dust magnets and with the passing of time they grow a thick, grimy pelt of it. Anyway it works like a charm now and keeps me cool and comfortable.

    This was 3-5 minutes worth of info, tops. A very little bit of effort toward writing, rehearsing, editing, and brevity go a long way.

    What about the model 623? I have had it for at least ten years but now I am hearing a scraping sound when the fan is on. Took it a part , up to the blade and vacuumed but can't figure it out...might be time for a new one. Any advice?

    • @richardlloydusa
      @richardlloydusa  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's probably worn out if it is scraping. Check and see if the axle that holds the fan blade assemble is lose or wobbles, it should not. If it does then the bearings in the motor are shot and the only fix really is to get a new one. Thank you so much for watching and commenting. I appreciate it greatly. All the best.👍😀

    Maybe its just me but maybe in another video you could take this further and do maintenance on the motor too. For instance if its older and the motor has accumulated a bit of dust inside and the lubrication has started to deplete as well.
    I do that level of maintenance each year on one of my fans and its just a cheapo but its been working great for years now.

    • @richardlloydusa
      @richardlloydusa  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I may take a look at that. What kind of lubrication are you using? Thanks.

    • @richardlloydusa
      @richardlloydusa  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great, thank you for the information. Sewing machine oil is made for moving metal parts so that makes sense. I wonder if bearing grease (moly) would do the job too? I will look into it. Thanks again for the suggestion. All the best.

    • @John877
      @John877 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Grease might be too thick for a fast moving fan unless you only use a little bit just to coat.
      Remember though, fans dont have ball bearings, just that little piece of metal or something.

    • @richardlloydusa
      @richardlloydusa  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The old "permanently lubricated bearing"... LOL I will look into my fan motor. I like it a lot and I want it to work as long as possible. I believe the Vornado has a five year warranty so I would think they would use good bearings but I will have a look. Thanks.

    • @G_Cs
      @G_Cs 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      In the 70s, I worked for a company that manufactured replacement parts for the military, including small motors such as the one in these fans. All of the manufacturing specs were provided to us, down to the nth degree. Motors had to be tested to operate way beyond their normal expected use, and even tested to excessive RPMs that they would either fly apart or smoke and seize up. The temperature was measured on these motors to see how hot they got. All the testing had to be monitored by government inspectors to ensure everything was within specs. I don't recall there ever being one motor that did not have molybdenum disulfide speced to use on the motor shafts/bearings (if there were bearings). The claim was that the motors would not get as hot, which would be important in keeping the motor running.
      Having worked on cars and motorcycles before that, molybdenum disulfide was new to me, but convinced me that it was superior to what I had used in the past. It was expensive back new, and relatively new, but I could purchase a tube of it through our suppliers. I used it on anything I could after that. I am pretty confident that you would not find anything much better than the moly solution. Look for the Moly EP type (EP is for extreme pressure).
